Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm so excited about this part of your TR Melissa!!! Love the silly pics especially the one of Andy's arm in the little girls mouth. We took a cruise a couple of years ago and all we wanted to do was explore the ship as soon as we got on too. It feels a little overwhelming at first because there's so many places to explore but you get use to it after a while. Hurry back with more.

Great start on this part! I got caught up on your DW portion just as you were moving over to this part.

I really love your photos and can't wait to hear how the rest of the trip went. I'm hoping you really enjoy it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets freaked out thinking about going on the cruise. I think that's what keeps me from going on one because once i'm on there what do I do-where do I go, what if I miss something or go some place I'm not suppose to.

Holy Moly Melissa! My stomach is knotting up just reading your first entry. I hope your stomach feels better so mine will, too. I have never taken a cruise, so I am truly feeling your nervousness. (I really wish I was exaggerating. I'm not...ug...I feel sick...) I guess I'll tough it out and continue reading. It has to get better...

Just caught up and I remember thinking i felt the same way for my first cruise. I like to be prepared for everything but i've never been on the water in anything that big before. So, my hands were shaking and i was super quiet because i was taking everything in. Although, we didnt take much loading pics because i was so freaking nervous and i kept yelling "come on guys, you are slowing me down" *LOL*
I love that you guys took so many pics because its really showing me what the disney cruise ship looks like and I was super curious about that!
ahhhh ha the showering on a cruise....so much fun....cant wait to read your next update!!!

So after our silly photo adventures around the boat we headed back to the room to get ready for the safety drill. We made sure we were back in time to get our lifejackets on and find our location. This was one of those things I had been anally worrying about.

I had been dying in my little sweater thing so I had to change clothes really quick, then we had to get a stupid photo before we headed out.....

Like I said, this little bit of time goes by really fast. Before I knew it we were heading down the hall, following the signs, to our assigned meeting spot, AP. There were already a lot of folks in there but we found two open seats. They were checking folks off as they came in and there were just a few stateroom numbers that they had to call out b/c they weren't seen coming in. BUT, everybody was there and were out as quick as we went in. I do have to admit that since we were already in a silly mood we were cracking jokes left and right which probably wasn't the most responsible thing to do during a safety drill.......but we had the general plan in our brains

After the drill we were more than ready to get those things off. We dropped them off in our stateroom and I had to check the air conditioner again.... I had set thing so that it should have been freezing in our room by now. We were getting the direct afternoon sun in our room and it was burning up. I wasn't sure if our air was working or if it was b/c of the sun so I decided to just ask our stateroom host, Allain, about it. Well he totally misunderstood me b/c I do have a tendency to speak quietly when talking to strangers.... and he thought I wanted to see Ariel at the sailaway party or something He started telling me something about "maybe tomorrow" and I was like "WHAT maybe tomorrow it'll be working???" then we got it all figured out that we were misunderstanding each other and had a good laugh over it. Andy continued to joke about finding Ariel the whole trip.....

It was time now to head up to the sail away party. There's not a lot of time to get up there after the drill so we booked it. We were able to find a spot right up against the stage which was great
And the party began!!

Andy was being a total prude and wasn't being his usual silly self. He just didn't get into the party for some reason. I don't know what his deal was.....

More pics from the party..

I've recently discovered how much I Donald!

Then, the horn blew those notes I had been waiting to hear and we were off!!!! Let the fun begin!!!

The characters left the stage and so did we...... we decided to run up to deck 10 to watch ourselves start moving. We didn't realize it for a few minutes that we were moving........

As we started moving a bunch of us spotted about 6 to 8 dolphins jumping and swimming out in the water next to us... that was really a neat moment

I took some more pictures from here...

Now that we were full steam ahead we decided to go back to deck 7 aft. We again were the only ones out there......Andy says he thinks this is the best place to watch the boat sailaway...

Then I totally suckered him into doing this.....

Which everybody back behind/above us on Deck 9 saw him do and laughed at him Great stuff!!

More photos as we headed out into the ocean...

And just to show I was no joke about it being just us on deck 7...

We decided we should go to our room since we had a verandah and see what the view was from there of us leaving...

By now we needed to start getting ready so we could head out and explore more, and maybe have a drink before dinner. I hopped in the shower first..... and it was in the shower that I really realized we were moving. Your head doesn't quite understand why you're standing still and yet you're falling over and you haven't even had more than one drink! What's that all about??? But I was swaying all over the place in there.... especially when I had to reach up to shampoo my hair... good thing that wall was there to catch me

So we got ready and by now I was starting to feel it.. I had been worried that one of us would get sea sick and I was sure it would be Andy.... But no, he was fine. Fine fine fine. Me on the other hand.... while I never felt sick in my tummy, my head sure did feel the pain. I don't know what it was, but my head knew we were moving whether I was looking out a window or not. It was like the floor was moving towards me a lot faster than it should when I walked

Once we both were ready we walked around a bit, found Captain Mickey in the atrium

Then we had our professional portrait made....

And then we stopped and had a drink in the cadillac lounge. We had Millie as our bartender and when we went back in there the next night, she remembered us and remembered our drinks! Love it!

You'll notice the picture taking seriously took a nose dive once the boat started moving............. I do apologize.......

It was getting close to our dinner time and I was sure some food would help. We lined up at Triton's (we didn't realize folks would actually line up, but they do). We were the first at our table for 8. One other couple showed up and it was just the four of us that first night. They were an older couple, WDW veterans and this was second DCL cruise. They were nice but a little different than us. Which there's nothing wrong with.... I just like to eat in peace, not with strangers Especially when I'm not feeling 100%. But they made me feel better when they said that the boat was moving a lot tonight, the lady said she passed someone in the hall and they were bouncing all over the place, which is exactly how I felt. I had to go to the restroom at one point during the meal and I had to go out into the atrium to find one.... I swear, I almost fell off the toilet! Lots of rocking.... and I was trying so hard to not think about it, which of course, is me thinking about it so that wasn't working!

At dinner I just remember having the tomato soup.... I know I had appetizer but I can't remember what I was. I do remember the soup being one of my favorite things. It was nice and creamy and great with the bread. Andy just said he had the wild mushroom risotto. I do remember I had the cherries jubilee for dessert and it was verrry good! They also brought us a cake to celebrate our anniversary which was nice and unexpected!

Can you tell I'm suffering???

And our cake...

After dinner we went back to the room. I took some dramamine which I had brought just in case. I seriously felt better in about 15 minutes and we decided to go to Shutters to look at pictures... We ended up LOVING our portrait we had made earlier in the night so I went ahead and paid for the 8x10 package which was 5 8x10's for $84.95. We collected over the trip and added to it which was neat. I'll post all those at the end b/c I've got to scan some more of them...

The good feeling I had was quickly waning and we decided to call it a night. I was just seriously tired. I think it was the movement.....all that rocking was making me sleepy and maybe that's why my head was what was hurting so much. So we went back to our stateroom and found our cute turndown service..

And then we called it a night... we laid down and watched some tv.... I liked the channel that showed you where you were, how far you'd been, and how far till the next port.

I slept really well which surprised me. No noise, no hangers banging like I'd read and heard people complain about, (all our hangers had clothes on them ) But yes, the good night's sleep was very welcome!! We'd had a long and eventful day!! And another one to come tomorrow!

Coming up: So this is another country......

Sorry you were feeling seasick that first day. Let's hope it gets better the next day!

Your little red shirt is too cute--perfect color for that Mickey picture!

The anniversary cake is great too. I love the little ship on it (made out of candy maybe?).
