Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The views were quite nice. They really aren't penny machines as the machines play several lines. Most machines are around 40 to 50 cent minimum bets. They call them penny machines but really aren't. No more payouts in coins. You receive winnings with a voucher, when you are ready to cash out. Can redeem for cash at machines in the casino or at the cashier.

Day Three in Atlantic City and Another Great Dining Experience!

Thursday, May 17th
This is my last full day in Atlantic City and even better as it’s my birthday! I’m hoping to get some winnings in the casino today, but not betting on it. The weather was a bit better today than yesterday, but still not great. It was cool in the 60’s and overcast all day with a shower here and there. I got up around 10 am or a bit before and went down to the Marketplace Express for same breakfast as yesterday with a coffee and yogurt parfait.

After breakfast, I went up to my room for a bit, before going back to the casino. Once, I was ready I went downstairs and went outside on the boardwalk as the weather wasn’t too bad. There were people outside but not like on my first day, when the weather was much better. I didn’t walk that far on the boardwalk and stayed in the relative area of my hotel, just getting some photos. Although, it wasn’t raining it was quite cool, damp and windy out. Not what I was hoping for.

As you can see, it’s not that nice today!

Tropicana Resort and Casino

You may recognize this building as it is next to the Tropicana and the outside was used in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”

After this, I went inside and went to the casino and did a bit of gambling on some of the slots. Some of those I did well on earlier in my trip were not paying off at all. In fact, any machine I went to did not payoff for me. This was pretty much the ordeal for most of today. After an hour or so in the casino, I went to Perry’s Pizza again for lunch with a slice of cheese and a soda. I decided to eat outside as it wasn’t too bad out.

A friend visited me, while I was having lunch!

Over the next few hours I returned to my room and watched TV for a while as well as getting in a short nap in. A couple of hours before going out for dinner, I returned to the casino and still no luck for the most part. A little bit here and there, but nothing that much.

Like this slot, but didn’t payoff much.

I returned to my room around 6:30 pm to get ready for dinner as I had an ADR at 7:30 pm. It would not be in my hotel and I would be taking Lyft once again. Once, I was ready to leave I walked to the valet area and contacted Lyft. This must have been the shortest wait for Lyft I’ve ever had. It was literally about 30 seconds as my driver had just dropped someone off. How’s that for great timing?

It was a short ride to the restaurant and between the Tropicana and Caesar’s resorts. But it was raining out and may have walked there, if it wasn’t. Although, a bit closer to the latter. The restaurant I’m dining at is a landmark in Atlantic City and the most notable eatery in the city. It’s an institution and the highest rated restaurant in town. I had checked various rating sites and knew I had to dine here. Even better as it would be my birthday as I planned it that way.

Dock’s Oyster House and part of the Atlantic City scene since 1897.

I checked in at Dock’s for my ADR at the desk. It was very busy and quite noisy as well and mostly from the bar area, which was adjacent to here. Quite the popular place. There seemed to be a lot of the business crowd dining tonight. When I checked in, I was told there would probably be at least a twenty minute wait, even though I had a reservation. In the meantime, I got some photos.

Some of these photos are from later, when it was less busy, but thought it was good to include them now.

More time went by and it was about fifteen minutes. They told me they were clearing tables. Many diners got seated before me, who arrived after I did. Part of the problems of dining solo at times. I saw the restaurant manager at the check in desk and told him, I’ve been waiting for over twenty minutes and I had a reservation. He got on this and I was seated in a couple of minutes. It helps to talk to the right person. Outside of this, there would be no other downfalls to my experience at Dock’s.

The two dining area of Docks. Not a lot of tables in the restaurant. The latter is the room I was in.

Shortly after I sat down, I met my server Will for my dinner. He would be nothing but exceptional and one of the best I can recall. He gave me the menu and went over today’s specials as well as some of his personal favorites at Dock’s, which he described in detail. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, the ingredients of the courses and how they are served. He gave me a few minutes to look over the menu. I also ordered a glass of Sancerre as I intended on having seafood for my first two courses. It’s similar to a Sauvignon Blanc.

Will returned a few minutes later with my glass of wine. There was also bread for my table, which was very good. I was also served a glass of ice water. I gave him my choices and the two of them sound very good and was looking forward to them. My main course would be one of today’s specials and one that Will highly recommended.

The view from my table

I enjoyed the bread and my glass of wine for a few minutes and then my first course arrived. It looked very good! Although, it is a seafood variety that many people are apprehensive about for its’ look but has become quite popular over the last several years.

Grilled Octopus with Cannellini Beans and Garlic, Tomatoes, Herbs and Lemon Juice

The flavor of this was quite amazing and very tender. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. A great start to my meal. I’ve had this a few times and another version at Tiffin’s in the Animal Kingdom was also very good. But, this one was even better!

After finishing my appetizer, my server Will, returned and cleared my plate and silverware. I also ordered another glass of wine. He also scraped off the bread crumbs from my table as I had made a bit of a mess with the crusty bread! He returned soon with my glass of wine and set more silverware for my main course.

The above photo is part of well known Atlantic City legend from the Boardwalk’s Steel Pier long before the casinos arrived.

A few minutes went by and Will delivered my main course. Just the view of it is quite amazing!

Broiled Wild Alaskan Halibut topped with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat served over Sauteed Spinach with Garlic, Onions and Tomatoes with a Lemony White Wine Sauce.

This course was exceptional with so much going on with it as it packed an amazing amount of flavor with each layer. It is without a doubt one of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had and I’ve had many! Will said he loves it, when this is on the menu. It depends on the availability of good Halibut they can get. I’m so glad I went with this course. I was talking to the couple next to me, who had other courses and they said their meal was exceptional as well. I think, no matter what you have at Dock’s, it will be top notch and the reason the restaurant has the reputation it does and is an institution of Atlantic City. I took my time with this course as I wanted it to enjoy it as much as possible and savor the amazing flavor!

Once I finished my Halibut, Will returned and cleared my plate and silverware. He asked if I had room for dessert and I told him I did and he gave me the dessert menu. There were some good ones, but one thing stood out and went with that. I also ordered an espresso and a Grand Marnier. Why not as a good way to enjoy and amazing meal even more and besides it is my birthday.

He returned with my espresso and Grand Marnier and a few minutes later with my dessert, which looked very appetizing and it was.

Chocolate Mousse made with Bailey’s Irish Cream and homemade Whipped Cream

Once again another winner and the dessert was quite tasty. It was amazing how well the Bailey’s works with the chocolate mousse as they complement each other so well. Once I finished my meal, I asked Will for the check. We also discussed the restaurant a bit and I told him what an exceptional dinner I had. I told him I’d be back. He mentioned that he’s worked here for fifteen years and much of the staff have also been here for several years. Obviously, a great place to work. He thanked me and shook my hand. A great end to my experience.

I paid my check and then went outside to contact Lyft for the ride back to the Tropicana. Before contacting them, I got a few photos.

I contacted Lyft and my ride arrived within a minute or two. It was a bit of a misty rain outside, but nothing too bad. In a few minutes I was back at the Tropicana. I had my driver drop me off outside of The Palm restaurant as that’s in the Quarter section and an easier walk back to my room.

I went back to my room and checked my bag to make sure I had everything as I was returning home tomorrow. After spending some time in the room, I went downstairs to the casino and see if I have any better luck than earlier today. It was around 10:30 pm or a bit before.

A little dreary outside

I tried my luck on various slots and some of those which brought me luck on the first day or so here. This time, I wasn’t having any luck. I need some and especially on my birthday! Others around me weren’t having any luck as well.

I returned to the 10 North Lounge and tried my luck there. No luck here either, but at least I got a comp drink as I was playing at the bar! I wasn’t losing much either.

10 North Lounge

I went to other areas of the casino floor and see if I’d have any better luck. For the most part I was losing a bit and some small wins but nothing that great. My three days in the casino can be broken down into three parts. Day 1: Nice and Big Wins , Day 2: Up and Down and Day 3: Not my day.

Below are some photos from the casino floor.

It was getting late and I was almost ready to head upstairs to my room for the night, but I decided to give the slots a little more time. I was playing one of The Big Bang Theory slots and was getting some small payouts of around $5-$10, which was nice. Then I hit for a much better one of $50! At that time, I decided that was it! Good way to end my trip. Just wish I had done better today as I would have been on the plus side overall otherwise. I don’t play maximum bets on the slots as I want the money to last a while as I’m down here for a few days and not just a few hours. The wins on these would have been nice but the losses, I couldn’t deal with if I was betting the max.

Overall, I had a good trip with some nice wins at times, walks on the boardwalk and some great culinary discoveries. I would be going home happy and not disappointed. I just wish I could have had better luck and that the weather was more cooperative.

Friday, May 18th
I was up around 9:15 am or so and got ready to head home. First, I went downstairs to get some breakfast before I checked out. I went to another grab and go market and this one was much closer to my room in the Quarter section. Just a coffee and a yogurt. It was after 10:30 am or perhaps close to 11 am at the time. I returned to my room and made sure I had everything and spent a little time watching TV. I left the room and went to the check in/out area of the Havana Tower to do this. It’s quite convenient having this and avoiding the long lines of the main area. Another good thing is checkout time is 12 pm and not 11 am like most hotels. It seems most of the casinos do this as many stay up late in the casino.

There was no one in line when I got there and checkout was easy. I had a comp room for two nights and 15% off on the third night. My bill came to about $190 and that’s mostly fees and taxes. I walked through the casino and to the valet to get my car. With my rewards card, the parking was free for me otherwise it’s $15 per day, so a nice savings. My car arrived in a few minutes and I was on the road back home around noon time.

There was a little bit of rain occasionally during the drive home, but not too much. I made a couple of stops on the way home. I stopped at the first rest area for some gas and then about halfway home for lunch at Burger King at the Cheesequake rest area. The traffic wasn’t bad until I got to the Newark area. This is the traffic going into Newark, which doesn’t make sense. You’d think most individuals with a bit of intelligence would want to be getting out of Newark and not entering it!

That was about it with the traffic and after clearing this region, it was pretty much smooth sailing. My Google Maps rerouted me just prior to entering I-95 in Connecticut to save me some time with the drive home and this worked to my advantage. I arrived home around 5 pm. Another Atlantic City trip in the books. I’m not sure if I’ll go back this year as I’m going to Las Vegas in October, but we’ll see.

Great meal for your birthday, especially the dessert. Sorry your winnings were not higher, Tara probably took all their money.

When your are there for three days it is very difficult to keep the winnings up. Although, overall down, it's probably the best I've ever done here. If you are going to win overall, it's probably going to happen if you're there just for a few hours, but you never know. It depends on luck of the draw with the various slots.

Dinner was astonishing to say the least and goes without saying that I will be dining there on my next trip to A.C and by next Spring or early Summer at latest. Glad you enjoyed my trip to A.C.

The dessert was so good but the halibut was so much better and that's certainly saying something as I mentioned being one of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. There are a few at V &A's at the GF that only could compete with this. But, then again it's a tasting menu and not full courses, which is something to consider. It was just the depth of flavor that overwhelmed me with this course!

I was hoping for more winnings but happy I did well the first day and a bit on day 2. Was hoping for a nice win on my birthday, but at least I had a descent win at the end! You may be right about Tara as I can't figure out her luck and neither can she!

That dinner sounds amazing. Shame you didn't come out on top with winnings from your weekend away, but it sounds like you had a really fun time.

I enjoyed my time down here and certainly would have enjoyed more winnings, but didn't do too bad overall. Dinner was amazing and enjoyed it so much. I was expecting Dock's to be very good, but not this good. I'd put it right up there with the Cali.

Nothing like some good humor, when you need it Tara! Rumor has it is you've taken them for a lot and you're on their watch list! I enjoyed the trip very much with some winnings and great meals. Dock's was amazing and I can't recommend it enough. Hope, you get to experience it in time.

Glad you enjoyed the TR within a TR! Back to WDW in the next update! Dock's was so good and will be returning my next time to A.C. Was hoping for better wins on my birthday, but still had a great trip!

Two Firsts in The Magic Kingdom with So Many Previous Trips!

Sunday, October 8th (Part V)
After a great ride on Space Mountain, which is the norm, I made the long exit out of the attraction and went over to the PeopleMover. Always a nice and relaxing ride. The line was quite long but it moves rather quickly and I was on it within a few minutes.

A couple of photos from the attraction

This was enjoyable as ever and then headed out of Tomorrowland and into Fantasyland. Although, my last FP+ for the day wouldn’t be here. I was passing through for easier access to the location.

A few photos of my journey through Fantasyland!

I dined here back in 2014 and generally enjoyed it. I probably enjoyed the theming more than anything else. The service was certainly off and I felt rushed!

Can you spot something, flying, adjacent to The Beast’s castle?

Quite a wait for Peter Pan and I wouldn’t wait that long for any attraction! It’s beyond me why some people do this for a five minute ride.

After exiting Fantasyland my Fastpass+ was now in sight!

The PP+ line was quite long, but I was in the stretching room in about ten minutes or just over. The ride was as good as always and with my buggy companion at the end, who seemed to enjoy it as much as I did! The one thing I don’t like about Haunted Mansion is the exodus from the stretching room to where you get on your buggy which is so cramped with the crowd!

After exiting Haunted Mansion, it was time to return to the Dolphin to see my room for the first time and get ready for dinner later. It was probably around 3:45 pm. Before exiting the park for the bus depot, I’d have two firsts in the Magic Kingdom after so many previous trips.

The first one is below in Liberty Square and was very entertaining, even though I didn’t catch the whole show.

Now we have the whole clan!

After this, I headed towards Main Street USA for my second first time experience. This one is more surprising that I have never ran into this before!

The Dapper Dans

Not the best photos from side and rear, but I enjoyed the performance and glad I finally saw it.

Once, this was over, I exited the park and walked towards the bus depot for the return home to The Dolphin resort. I received a text an hour or so ago that my room was ready. I was looking forward to seeing my room for the first time and the upgrade I’d be receiving.

Somehow, I managed to leave one photo out, while I was waiting for the bus! It's a good one too!

There was only a couple people in line when I arrived there, which means a bus had probably just departed. The wait was about fifteen minutes and the line grew quite extensively. Once it arrived, I got a seat and we had an uneventful ride back to the Dolphin with a stop at the Swan prior. I arrived at my resort at around 4:30 pm.

NEXT: My Room Tour and Upgrade!
