Don't Stop - part one of Disney trip COMPLETED - Page 44 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sunday 13 December – part three: Paradiso 37... and spam scones
Then we were heading up the river to Old Key West and catching glimpses of the Treehouse Villas on the way. One day, we are going to have to stay in these. That would be so neat.
It was about this time that I realised that I had said to Jennifer that we would meet up with them at 11.45 for our lunch with them, but that time was fast approaching, so I texted her to say that we would be there more like 12.00 instead. We dropped the boat back and even though we had had it for 40 minutes, we got no extra charge, which was good.
By now, it was getting pretty hot, just as they had predicted on the weather forecast, so we took our time getting over to Paradiso 37. We saw Jennifer, Alexander and Marta outside and Alexander was in seventh heaven with the pirate ship that his Fairy Godmother Marta had bought for him. This would gradually be unpacked during the course of the meal.
We walked in and I was immediately impressed with the atmosphere of this place. Despite the dark furniture, it’s very light and airy in here, thanks to the huge glass windows they have. There’s a massive tequila bar, but their big draw as far as alcohol goes appears to be beer, as they made a big thing of serving the coldest beer.
The menu was pretty impressive, certainly not what I’m used to on Disney property these days, with some genuinely ethnic food on offer. I really wasn’t going to have a starter, but when I saw the salsa sampler that included pineapple salsa, I just had to give that a go and Marta said she would share it with me. Perfectly, she wanted the hot dip, the fire roasted salsa Diablo, which was the one I wasn’t interested in, so that worked out fine for me. It was very good and I polished off all the pineapple salsa. It was very different, but very nice.
Ok, why that photo has come out so large, I do not know...
Mark had the Caribbean crab and fish fritters for appetiser and I tried some of his and couldn’t fault those either. They were excellent.
For main course, I was spoilt for choice, as there were a lot of fish dishes on the menu, which made for a pleasant change. I went for the southern fish fry, while Mark had the Colombian style whole crispy hen. A lot of hilarity ensued when that arrived, as you can see from these photos:
Mine had a decadent selection of fish, including shrimp, salmon and scallops in it. Although it was breaded, it didn’t say anything on the menu that I saw about it having a tang to it and it did, which meant that I struggled to eat it, as it was a little too hot for my liking. I made a valiant effort, but it was just too much for me and I’d say too much for one person. Mark found that his dish had been deep fried, so this is not an option for those who are health conscious.
Our server wasn’t great. OK, so we were chatting away, but I thought it said something when Jennifer asked if she had missed him bringing us the bill or asking us if we wanted dessert, but no, she hadn’t, je had just gone to ground completely.
As for the company, we had a great time. Alexander’s pirate ship was gradually completely unpacked. We couldn’t believe how much packing it came with! It took almost the whole meal to get into it, but Alexander seemed to love it – and that’s the most important thing.
We also presented Jennifer with a book on spam, as I saw it and knew she and Dave would appreciate it, as they have to deal with that stuff on the boards from time to time. The recipes in there are classic, especially the spam scones! Not something I ever want to be served with. :
Paradiso 37:
Appetiser 9 6½
Entree 7½ 7
Service 5 4
Atmosphere 8 8
Value for money 7 7
Average score: 6.90
Eventually, it was time to leave, but they didn’t chase us out of there and it was pretty busy in there, busier than I was expecting anyway, bearing in mind that it’s quite a new place and I thought it would still be a virtually unknown place.
Next: this is much better than our part of the resort
I'm sorry to hear your meal(the food or the waiter) weren't what you expected at Paradiso 37. The Salsas look delicious though. It looks like you and Mark had a wonderful time with Marta, Jennifer, & Alexander. Your boat ride looked like so much fun and relaxing too. More please!
Just catching up and enjoying your updates! First, how wonderful you were able to spend that special time with Wendy. Sounds like another memorable trip is in the making for next Spring! And that PP meet must have been loads of fun. What a crowd! Sorry you had to endure such horrible crowds for the Lights. I would not have handled that well.
That photo of Mark and piglet totally cracks me up! They have quite the history, huh?
Love your close-up shot of the treehouse villa! I'd love to stay there one day but with just hubby and I right now, I can't really justify spending all the points.
Your meal at Paradiso 37 looks great. Glad to hear you had a good time!
