As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Great pics from dinner. I'm with you on the nervous nellies before getting to dinner. For our first cruise, we were alone with the kids. For the second, we were with another family of 4, which was a bit awkward. For our 3rd, thankfully we were alone again! Glad you had a great time!

I'd be totally be freaking out about dining with others. I am very shy and have a hard time starting conversations with strangers. My husband, on the other, can strike up conversation with pretty much anyone.
Dinner looked lovely! And what an amazing view from your table!
I also feel I'm socially awkward and get nervous about meeting new people. Once I know folks and get comfortable, it's much easier to talk. Dinner looked very delicious and filling. The view must have been incredible out those windows.
You guys looked so cute and dinner looked great!
We've only cruised on Royal Caribbean and have chosen My Time Dining which means we can choose our time and whether we want to sit alone or with others, being like many of you we chose to sit alone. The first time it was just our family of four. The second cruise was just DH and I and again we chose to eat alone, but the first night they asked us if we would be willing to sit with others, not wanting to make a fuss we said yes. At first it was a bit awkward, but we liked our table mates so much that we sat with them several other nights. We had a good experience the time after that as well. The good thing about My Time Dining is you can just choose a different time or request to sit alone if you don't like who you are with the first night.
I know some people will find this hard to believe, but I am so with you about dining on a cruise - I have exactly the same worries, as I struggle to make conversation with people as well, so I know exactly how you feel. What a beautiful dining room and wow they certainly do know how to feed you well with portions that size!
Thankfully our awkward table location and the variety of food we ordered gave us a starting point, as did our missing table mates!

Wow they kinda missed the mark sitting you with those guys! Disney is much better about somehow magically pairing up tables, but thankfully it wasn't too bad.

A 4 night cruise just wasn't quite long enough to get to that comfort level, especially with not eating with everyone each night. But the food was great And we were lucky with the 6pm seating because we got the nice sunsets

Aww thank you! That kind of dining is an option on Celebrity as well, but I LIKE the structure of having a main seating time and Cody requested that we dine with others. But we still had the option to change our minds after the first night if they were awful
Hmmm we went on a three day recently where our table mates were cheating on their spouses and took this trip together...awkkkward...can't wait to hear about yours

The view at dinner was gorgeous! Glad your tablemates were normal. We've only cruised once and went with friends so we sat with them. I'd be totally nervous to sit with strangers though.
Sounds like a nice time. Dinner looked delish! And I love the windows in the dining room. You even managed to get some pictures of Cody. For someone who doesn't like pictures he seemed to humor you enough to get some really cute pictures of the two of you!
Glad the hurdle of the first dinner on-board is accomplished. I'm always super-nervous about the strangers-at-dinner aspect of cruising as well. It's even worse for me because I almost always travel solo, so if I don't mesh well with my dining companions it's VERY bad! I wouldn't mind at all sitting alone, but you can't do that on a cruise. I've been lucky so far and have met some very nice people, but I worry every time.

I think the to eat or not eat with strangers is an interesting debate. I actually love meeting people, but I don't love eating with people I don't know Something intimate about eating to me I guess. We frequently meet people when we are overseas and we end up choosing to eat together, and it is great; but I don't like being assigned to eat with anyone I don't know. I have fortunately always been able to eat with the group/couple that we have come with, so no strangers at dinner for me on cruises thus far. Eric and I are definitely going to cruise alone one of these days and then we'll have to see which direction we go

Somehow the only time I ever cruised with a big group, we did Norwegian which doesn't believe in set dining!

He's warming up to them the longer he dates me LOL! From our Disney trip in September I have so few! But every once in a while he just straight refuses. We went on a gorgeous hike in Austin and he wouldn't let his mom take a nice pic of us with the amazing nature around! ...still peeved about that lone

I can see how that would be even more stressful! It would be nice if they matched up solo travelers together, then everyone can have that to bond over!

Welcome along! If your table mates are awful, you can always request a change and they do their best to accommodate a switch. With Celebrity you were able to do a free seating option as well, so if we didn't like them we could have just gone to dinner at any other time each night and sat alone in the upstairs portion of the dining room!
Sorry for the delay all, I think we all know life can just get in the way sometimes! Hopefully I can keep more consistent with my updates, but I have a lot of travel coming up the next few weeks too! Eek!
So I had it in my head that we would sleep in this day, but the bright sunshine and pulling into port had us both up bright and early. I was not having it (okay, I mixed a few too many drinks the previous night) and stayed in bed for a few more hours watching the 2 TV channels we had. I’m also just horribly bad at staying up late, and we were up quite a while at the Martini bar, cutting into my precious beauty sleep, so the extra bit of dozing was wonderful for me We had no plans in Nassau until the afternoon anyway!
Cody headed off to breakfast in the Main Dining Room where he had Eggs Benedict and was sat with a nice family. I thought it was strange that they just sat him with some unsuspecting family, but he enjoyed sitting and talking with them and they mentioned that the entertainment the previous night was great!
I got up and motivated while Cody was at breakfast (he had a little lazy time with me too!) I was a bit jealous of what I saw out my porthole, but enjoyed the view anyway. Eventually we were heading off to walk around Nassau a bit. It was super easy to get off the ship and into town since we went at little later in the morning, no crowd at all! The weather was gorgeous and it was a perfect morning stroll.
This was what was across the way, ohhh how I long for another Disney cruise!

Not one, but two!
We just took it easy and strolled around with no real plan. We got roped into a scooter sales pitch, but kindly declined a rental. We had no plans to go anywhere too far. We toyed with the idea of popping over to Atlantis for a look around, but decided it wasn’t worth it to taxi over there this morning as there was plenty to see around. We spent some time looking at a little outdoor art market, but ended up not making any purchases. We also walked through the Straw Market and just wandered the streets a bit. I don’t feel “unsafe” around here particularly, but I just get sick of saying “no thank you” over and over. So our tummies started grumbling and we opted to head back to the ship for lunch. Free food and drink sounded more appealing than any of the restaurants around!

If you were keeping track, there was the Celebrity ship, a Norweigan ship, TWO Disney ships, a Carnival ship and a mystery ship behind ours. Needless to say, Nassau was CROWDED today.
