Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I love the above poster that stated that the vacation spots of others sounded boring. I agree 110%. I would much rather be at Disney than at a lot of other places people go.

Crystal, don't let your boss get you down. I find it very inappropriate that he would say that to you. You're right, he has no idea what state your finances are in. Don't let some jerk ruin what sounds to be an amazing couple trips. I promise you the memories your family has will far out weigh what one bitter person said.

And you could have always said, "We may have to sleep in a tent but at least we will be at Disney!!!!!!!!!"

Too me this topic is like when I see someone's cruise plans and all they are doing is going to beaches. My thinking is why go somewhere interesting in the world and go to a beach. If I want to go to one I'll go to one here in Toronto.

Oh it was VERY difficult for me. Once there is a decision to go, I want to talk to EVERYONE about it. We told a couple of the kids but we didn't tell all at first or any of the other relatives because they would think it a frivolous thing to do since hubby was out of work at the time. This was also difficult because we were in Arizona to move my MIL to an assisted living place. We made a last minute decision to fly from Arizona to Orlando for another week of fun. My husband's brother and sister were also there helping with the move. We didn't want to make my MIL sad about leaving to go elsewhere instead of staying longer with her so we said nothing. My closed-mouth hubby was the first to drop it to his mom. She took it very well and, in fact, thought it was funny. All in all, it worked out just fine and we had a blast while in WDW!!

The rest of my family thinks we are nuts, since we are a West Coast family. But I don't care. I don't want to regret it, and it is something I really want to do.
My DD and I just made the move to central FL in August. My family thinks the same thing. So far, no regrets. We are about 35 miles south of WDW in Winter Haven.

It's tough for me to not gush about WDW and my many past trips there as well, but I never discuss my pending trips with anyone outside of family or trustworthy friends.

Specific travel plans should be kept private, especially when you're in your own neighborhood; you never know who might be listening in. "Oh, I'm going to Disney World from August 8 to August 16! We're leaving so early on August 8, but I know I won't be able to sleep the night before! etc. etc." Saying stuff like this in public lets would-be burglars know that A) you have enough money to afford a WDW vacation, so your house is probably full of nice stuff, and B) your house will be empty and unattended from August 8 to August 16. Cha-ching.

Keep it vague, and keep it private, particularly when speaking aloud in public, or when speaking on the phone in public. You never know who might be in the back of the store, or whether your cashier at the grocery store might be dating a felon, or when the kids next door might be part of a teenage burglary ring that's just itching to get into your home while you're away (that last one actually happened to my family when I was a teen myself).

My family can be like this too. My parents were farmers and never ever took us on vacation. Sometimes I do feel like I am making up for lost time. My family has been to Disney World over 35 times! We believe that life is about the experiences with the special people in your life and not your furniture, car, or any other material thing. When people wonder aloud about how we can always go to Disney, I say we make it a priority. I don't have new furniture or an I phone, and I don't care. We love to travel. Also, we have made sacrifices from the very beginning in our marriage -- I wanted to stay home with my kids, so for many years we had only 1 car and lived on a teacher's salary. You spend money on what is important to you. Be honest and tell your family that their comments hurt your feelings and why are they doing that? Are they jealous? Life is about the choices you make. Furthermore, something great came out of all my Disney trips, including cruises, I was offered a job as a AAA Magical Creator specializing in Disney vacations. I love my job! I love planning Disney vacations for people and if I didn't have all of my Disney experience, I wouldn't be able to do this job. Anyone can book their vacation online, but with my experience, I can really help my clients book the most affordable vacation and tell them the best way to get around the parks and which restaurants are worth a visit. Stay strong and don't be discouraged!

I think quite a lot of adults think doing anything "little-kiddie" which is how they think of Disney when you don't have children means you're not very mature or worldly-wise.

And that's precisely what DH and I love about going to Disney. We don't have to behave like boring oh-so-grownups. No one will look at us oddly in a shop when I grab an Eeyore plushie, hug it and squeal--literally--"Oooooo, Eeyore! Oh, look! There's the CUTEst Tigger!" (Guess which are our favorites.)

Exactly. That's what part of what I love about Disney. Only at Disney will a 39 year old woman wearing a tshirt that say "You Mickey Me Crazy" have a 5' humanoid mouse hug her. (that actually happened to me in February 2011 & I was 39 at the time) And neither the woman nor the mouse get weird looks for any of it.

So far, I have not had this problem, but I know it will come up at some point. When it does, I am ready. I feel if you do not have enough respect for me and the choices we make concerning something that does not concern you, then you are being rude. When they make that type of statement I will just tell them I think our vacations are none of your business. I think it is time for you to leave.

I LOVE WDW!! I never got to go as a child and I was only able to take my children once. My DH isn't as big a fan as I am. He is really one of those who thinks it is a place to take your children, HOWEVER... we had a tragedy in our family and we lost our two year old Grand daughter in 2009. I had such a hard time dealing with the loss and it was HIS idea to take me for a get away (just us, no children) to WDW. He told me he wanted me to find my joy again He is the best! It helped, I found my joy again We have since been to DL once and WDW twice with our 4,3, and 1 year old grand children. Our next trip with the "wild bunch" is in 37 days!!!!!
