Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

YAY!!!!
You finished! And without tummy trouble to boot. That alone is worth celebrating - been there, done that! Glad the Immodium trick worked for ya.
That humidity was brutal. Brutal!! A few friends of mine who have run multiple Disney races (and the one who trained in Honduras!!) said they've never had such humidity issues before. It was tough. Hey, I drove under the bridge by McDonald's about 10:45 that night and honked my horn!! I was so excited to be on the other end of the race - giving the encouragement this time!

I'm glad you guys were able to enjoy some of the after party too. But I remember well, once you crash - you crash. 3:30 is plenty late (or early!).

I am loving your report! I'm usually the one writing the race reports, so I'm happy to read about the ToT 10-miler! I think you've convinced me that night races would not be a good idea for me; especially if it's pitch black in the portapotties! Like you, I often have issues and would NOT want to have to use one of those in the dark, especially if there are ANTS!

Can't wait to read more. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Yes, by the time we got in bed, I was exhausted and it felt good to be cool and still. But I didn't sleep well because my legs were hurting so much.

We're from a hot, humid climate, so for the weather to affect us that much, you KNOW it was bad!

Thanks for all your help and advice leading up to the race! It was definitely not ideal weather, but we still finished, and that's all that matters!

Before the race, I saw one couple in Tron outfits, and the woman was wearing a Quorra wig. I saw them again between miles 1 and 2, and she had already taken off the wig -- I can't imagine anything more miserable in that hot, humid weather!

Thanks! Don't know if I'll ever wear that running skirt again, but it was fun to have for the race.

As tired as I was, I really got a second wind afterwards. I don't think there's any way I could have gone right to bed!

Thanks! One reason we love runDisney is because no matter how tired or hot or cold you may get, the races are still tons of fun!

Day 3: Sunday, September 30

I slept fitfully and finally woke up around 9:30 a.m. I was much more sore than I thought I would be, and when I first stepped out of bed, I couldn’t walk. My right foot (the one with the plantar fasciitis) was killing me. But after a few more attempts at taking steps, I was able to stand up straight and walk.

We relaxed a bit in the villa and got cleaned up. We originally had an 11:35 ADR at Sci-Fi, but we decided to cancel that and walk over to the ESPN club to watch football. We headed over there around 12:30 with hopes of catching the 1:00 NFL games. I wanted to see the Texans-Titans game, which is our biggest rivalry since the Titans used to be the Houston Oilers. David will cheer for the Texans when he can’t watch his beloved New England Patriots. Living in Houston, he rarely encounters other Patriots fans!

When we checked in to put our names on the waiting list, the CM asked what game we wanted to watch. About 15 minutes later, we were led to a table with a view of the Pats-Bills game on the big screen. And the Texans-Titans game was on an itty bitty screen just above the bar. There were lots of Pats fans there, including the couple at the table next to us. There were two extra chairs at their table (we were sitting at those high bar tables) and another couple came looking to borrow their extra chairs. When the first couple saw that the second couple were in Pats jerseys, they invited them to sit and watch the game together. They quickly figured out that David was also a Pats fan, so there was instant camaraderie.

I was intently watching the Texans-Titans game, though it was very hard to see on that small TV! Every now and then, when there was nothing happening during the Pats game, something exciting would happen in the Texans game. I am NOT a quiet football spectator, so I’d screaming and yelling for my team, and I would be the only person in the whole bar making any noise. Finally, one of the guys sitting next to us leaned over and said, “Who are you rooting for?” I explained, and so all the Pats fans next to us started cheering for the Texans whenever I would start going crazy over something happening in my game. Both the Texans and the Pats won, so it was a good day!

After the game, I went back to the villa to change into some better walking shoes, then we headed over to Epcot. We stopped at the gift shop at the International Gateway to buy our wristlet gift card, then we headed to FW to check on the wait times for Soarin’. The Lines app said that FPs were gone, but Disney’s Mobile Magic app said they were still available. I was skeptical, given that it was after 4:00 p.m., but we went over there anyway. FPs were gone and the standby line was 60 minutes, so we headed over to SE, which was a walk-on. In the video, I had a weird extra piece coming out of my head.

Here is our photo on the wall after the ride:

After SE, we headed to the pin station where I bought the AP and DVC exclusive pins, as well as a grape soda cap pin, which I pinned on David’s race medal ribbon (he was wearing his ToT medal today). We walked over to MS, which was also a walk-on. We rode with a kid who was all by herself -- she was maybe 11 or 12.

We then headed back toward WS , but not before stopping for a Photopass picture and signing up for the Agent P Adventure.

We also stopped to admire the cranberry bog that was set up for F&WF.

We completed the Agent P adventure in Mexico, which was fun. Pretty similar to Kim Possible, but we still enjoyed it. From there, we headed to Norway to ride Maelstrom. The posted wait time was 20 minutes, but we probably waited about 10. We were going to do Agent P in Norway, but it was already 7:30, and we needed to head to Coral Reef for our dinner ADR. Just as we exited the Puffin’s Roost, the rain came. Hard.

Remember those ponchos we bought on the first day? Yeah, those were safe and dry in our room. We ducked under an umbrella at the Agent P recruitment station in Norway to return our phone. The rain lightened up slightly, so we decided just to plow ahead toward FW. But by the time we reached the store near the Friend ship boat launch, it was pouring, and we were getting drenched. So we ran inside the store. After several minutes, the rain wasn’t letting up, so we decided to suck it up and buy 2 more ponchos. We figured this would give us 4 ponchos that we could then keep in our Owner’s Locker for us and the kids. We headed toward Coral Reef and, of course, by the time we reached FW, the rain had stopped!

We checked in for our ADR and had to wait just a few minutes before we were seated. We had never eaten here before, and I was thrilled that we got a table on the first level, just one table away from the aquarium.

Our meal was not bad. I ordered the sustainable fish of the day, which was a mild white fish called corvina. It was served over Gouda grits with andouille sausage and peppers, with a crawfish on top. David had the NY strip. We ordered the Chocolate Wave for dessert, which came with a “happy birthday” chocolate. The food here was pretty good, and the aquarium was beautiful, but the atmosphere was a lot louder and more chaotic than I expected. The service was really fast -- we were in and out in less than an hour.

Chocolate Wave

Sitting in the air conditioning in damp clothes was getting uncomfortable, so we headed back to the villa. On our way back, we caught glimpses of Illuminations.

My muscles were still sore from the run, so I took a warm bubble bath and then we settled in to watch Sunday Night Football.

Day 3 Wrap-Up:

The weather today was...hot, humid and rainy

The best thing today was...watching football at ESPN Club

The worst thing today was...getting soaked on the way to dinner

The funniest thing today was...me cheering for the Texans all alone

Today we tried...Coral Reef
and the result was...we liked it a lot, though I wish it were quieter

sounds like a nice relaxed day! Sorry about the rain I have lived here for 22 years and still don't always know better to pack ponchos and such...lol I'm glad both of your teams won! That always makes for a better start to your day!

Your lunch at ESPN sounds like it was fun-- with the two games and two sets of fans cheering for each other. I'm impressed that you even got out of bed at all that day. I think I'd have stayed in and taken several long bubble baths. Hope your aching body is better for the next day's touring.

Night races will do that to ya. It's so hard to move the next day!! You plowed through though, good work. I remember that downpour! We were at MNSSHP that night!

That Chocolate Wave is my very favorite WDW dessert, and I've never seen it as pretty as yours! I'd go to CR just for that dessert.
