Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Feeling the need to drink, when there are rules or laws against it is indeed tacky and a shame. But, please keep in mind that not all adults who drink are drunks and responsible drinking habits can be modeled in front of children, without irreparable harm done. I don't drink at MK or DL. However, I did have a drink with lunch at AK. And I had a drink in France (actually 2, but on 2 different days). I even had a margarita at California Adventure. The kids know they are adult drinks and understand.

We all know it's a fine line of your own beliefs vs. your kids' understanding of complex topics vs. following the rules. Therefore, no matter what my beliefs are regarding drinking, in general or in front of the kids, to feel like you have to sneak liquor into a drink where it's not allowed? If you can't go a day without a drink, then don't go where it's not allowed or get some help for your problem!

And bravo to those who report drinking or drunken behavior! If I see it, I'd be inclined to do so, as well, and use it as a learning experience for the kids, should they be unfortunate enough to witness it.

Then we had a group (again a family) in line in front of us at the food court just letting the "F" word fly like crazy. So frustrating! I'm so glad that Disney polices that stuff!
This happend to our family while at dinner (not at Disney), DH turned around and asked if they kept in mind there were children around. The table stopped, then DH went to the restroom where he ran into the main culprit. He started to pick a fight with DH (which is a mistake DH has a smart mouth, and enjoys a confrontation) about DH "calling him out" stating that he speaks that way around his kids. DH thankfully just diffused the situation, but what was this man hoping would come from this. Some people!!!!

I can't disagree about "tacky," but disregard for the rules does go a bit beyond tacky as far as I'm concerned. It goes against the respect we have for the parks, each other, and for Walt's desire to have a "dry" park. Folks who don't love Disney as much as we do may feel otherwise, but I'm not sure folks who want to be a bit "happier" when on vacation necessarily dislike Disney - they can love it as much as we do. We don't all show our love in the same way.

While Disney sells alcoholic beverages everywhere but MK, the rules prohibit bringing alcoholic beverages into any of the parks (same is true for nearly any other amusement park, concert, stadium, etc.). When Disney dispenses the beverages, their staff is in charge of how much to serve, and is required to refuse service to those who have gone too far. When guests bring their own, there's less control over their behavior. A prohibition on outside alcohol means they can eject people before they become a problem, rather than waiting for them to get rowdy.

Now, some folks may not be aware that Disney does serve alcohol in the MK, during private catered parties when the park is closed to the public. Been there, and felt something was not quite... I won't say "wrong," let's just say it was like seeing Julie Andrews' topless scene in Blake Edwards' S.O.B... conceptually a bit hard to adjust to.

At Disneyland, folks able to get into Club 33 can buy drinks there, too. Somehow, that didn't seem as weird to me, since it doesn't quite feel like being in the park (at least, to me - folks who can go there regularly may feel differently).

Agree - I don't ever feel guilty having a drink, or even two, if my kids are around, because I think it's important for them to understand the idea that there are drinks only appropriate when you are adults, and that you can drink with moderation, and not turn into an obnoxious drunk.

That said, I also think it's getting worse at Epcot. We were there in January and kept running in to the same group of kids (they couldn't have been much past 21) who were drinking around the world, and had the tshirts to announce it. They had their shirts signed by the bartender every time they had a drink, and they were drinking 1-2 drinks in each country - sometimes more. They were loud, vulgar, and clearly drunk. I was disappointed that they continued to be served. The last time we saw them, they were trying to figure out how to get to Soarin', while standing about 100 feet from the entrance to the pavillion. Since my son and I were on the way to Soarin', suffice to say I did NOT give them directions. My son (who is 13) did question the idea of being that drunk and riding that ride.....

The heck with tacky. Isn' it illegal?

Though I must admit when I read the OP my first thought wasn't shock at adding to the bottle. I couldn't believe they would dump the Coke out instead of drinking it down. At Disney prices, that stuff is liquid gold! I guess my Scottish is showing

that was my first thought too! Why would they put water in the coke?!

bummer that you had that experience at the parks! I agree that behavior is definitely tacky. alcohol has it's time and place, IMO. MK is not it.

I have read many reviews about the delish FAB available throughout WDW(the exception being MK), I have decided to try a few on our trip in May. I promise not to be belligerent (sp?), obnoxious, foul-mouthed, or intolerant of others in this endeavor. I also will try not to run over small children and older people. I will have a keeper who is going to be the designated guider and keeper of the money during this time, to ensure that overindulgence does not occur.
Enough said-------

I just wonder if ID's get checked before serving AB, cause the drinking age is 21, and from the previous postings, alot of the miscreants are young adults, maybe too young to be buying legally? Just a thought.

Now, I was raised in my house to not ever have alcohol in the house and it isn't needed to have a good time. I remember when I was 9 or 10 and my family went to a NYE party at my godfathers house. I saw my mom having a drink at the table and literally started to have a nervous anxiety attack. I cried and felt like I was lied to. I was never taught how to drink responsibly. Just not to ever drink so I didn't until I was out of high school. Since I had no idea what was responsible drinking, I drank myself stupid and made some REALLY poor choices for quite a few years.

My cousins who were raised in a house of drinkers (irish mom and her fam) are super responisble drinkers now. They never really were irresponsible about alcohol. They were shown how to have 1-2 drinks and respect alcohol.

That being said, I take Scarlett on vacations by myself all the time being a single mom. We went to Beaches in Turks & Caicos 2 years ago. It was all inclusive. I had a lot of free time considering she loved the kids club. I would have a few drinks during the day at the pool while she was at the club and a drink or two with dinner when I had Scarlett. She was aware that they were Mommy drinks. I never got drunk or buzzed. She saw me drinking it and I was honest with her as much as I could be at 4 years old. I don't want her to react the same way I did when I saw my mom drink after she preached so much and told us how horrible alcohol is.

I want to show my daughter that alcohol is something you can enjoy but need to be responsible. It won't make her a bad person if she has a drink with dinner. Just if you make poor choices, there are consequences.

Sorry if this got off topic but I saw a few posts that were slightly anti drinking at all and thought I would pipe in.

They sure do check IDs. I've been ID'd quite a few times in WDW since my first trip in 2004 and I'm 45. I've seen the bag-check security at MK pour the entire contents of an unopened bottle of Crown Royal out on the ground when a couple (said they) bought it at Epcot and took the monorail to MK right after without thinking that it wasn't allowed.

And I'm with the people who think it's beyond tacky to sneak booze into MK in a water bottle. It is a lot of other things too - rude, illegal, irresponsible, slimy and totally self-righteous to think they're above the law. Nothing bugs me more than somebody trying to find a way around the rules.

I agree with you 100% and have also seen groups wearing "Drink around the world" shirts. The groups I've seen tend to be frat-age guys, not responsible looking adults that really want to try beers or wine from different countries. It doesn't make me super happy that Disney tolerates this, but they didn't ask me. We just tend to make a U-turn and head elsewhere in the park if we come across these groups.
