The Mighty Morphing Birthday Trip - Thread 2 - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 12/1 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great update Melissa! Cute pic of you and Stitch. Sorry to hear about the confusion at the EE fastpass. When you're melting from the heat, you don't need to get steamed over anything and that would have annoyed me. Glad to hear you enjoyed your Flame Tree lunch though. Hope you had a great time at the wedding.
Okay, we're back! We're writing this installment together so here we go.
After our morning/early afternoon at the AK we headed back to the WL to rest up and shower and get all clean again just to go and sweat it up all over later that evening.
Once we were ready and refreshed we made our way to the lobby to catch the bus to MGM. At some point between getting back to the WL and going to MGM we realized that there was a shorter way to the buses than the LOOOONG around our elbow way we had been going. We had been going all the way out the front and down the side to the dang bus stop. So that was our "DOH" moment with the buses.
So we made it to MGM on time, with a little rain on the way, but it let up a little (we still had to use our umbrella when we got there). We had an ADR at Sci-Fi (a first for us).
We checked in and waited to be called back.
I watched some kids fight each other....knocking hats off each other's heads. Lovely family.
We didn't have to wait too terribly long before we were called back.
I refrained from asking for a backseat. But alas my friends, it was fate, we were meant to have a backseat.
Yes, Andy even commented to the person seating us "Sweet, a backseat"
So anyways.... We got situated in our automobile...
I ordered the Space Monkey - chocolate shake, Malibu rum, and banana liqueur - FAB!!! I cracked some stupid joke about an open container in a vehicle..... not sure if it got any laughs... I can't remember...(not b/c of the drink, duh, but b/c it's been almost a month)
Anyway....I got an Andy at the table shot... a little different type of shot this time b/c of the seating arrangements.
We split a DDP credit here and shared an appetizer and an entree. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip and then we had the Shrimp Penne Pasta.
I don't think the food was all that bad, but it was like an Applebee's...not necessarily out of this world. On the yum level scale I give it
I thought it was pretty good. I like my food piping hot and the pasta wasn't. The dip, however, was very good!
The dessert however, I was very happy with. We were going to split the sundae and our nice little carhop Tim said that we should choose something else b/c he was going to bring Melissa a sundae for her birthday. So I ordered the Warm Apple & Pecan Crisp b/c that was Melissa's choice, and the sundae was my choice orginally...
So when dessert came I blew out the candle and then we swapped But I had a few bites of the sundae and it was fab!
The atmosphere was fun, we did notice that the reel ran round twice while we were eating. But I had to get a picture of the detail with the speaker boxes and the screen...
I thought the Sci-Fi movies were a blast, very entertaining.
After dinner we made our way out and caught a bus to the AK. We wanted to try the AK pm EMH since we had never done this before. When we arrived we got our wristbands back in Dinoland rather than the front of the park. Our first ride was Dinosaur. However, before we got to the ride I saw a prime photo op....
This picture makes me laugh everytime I see it
Melissa said I messed up the arms because my arms have one down and one up.... we'll try again next and make my dad do it, too
A few more Dinosaur pics..
I already liked this ride from past experiences, but for some reason I really enjoyed it each time we rode it this time. We were sitting behind some obvious first timers. Teenage chicks people.. and their parents were sitting next to us I think.
You could tell they were so nervous, you could feel it in the air
When it got kinda scary on the ride they were screaming and then they completely buried their heads in their laps.
If they had had tails they would have tucked them between their legs and ran away
It was hilarious! Granted, I still get scared by the very last dino....
so do I
I don't think those girls will ever ride again.
To make it even more scary for them I really overdid the scream during the scary parts.... I screamed like a little girl....
After that we headed over to EE.
And it was here that we had the experience of the trip. There was some nice lightening going on in not so far distance and we really didn't think we were gonna make it onto the ride. All of a sudden the line started moving like crazy and we thought either A)people were leaving, or B) they shut the ride down, but neither held out to be true. We went from the FP stand to the ride in less than 10 minutes. So, we get in our usual back car, behind a couple chicks who had never ridden this ride either. They were a little nervous...
It was newbie night
So we tell them that it's a fabulous ride and lots of fun.........and non stop action! (That's important people)...
We get into the cave after going backwards.....we see the shadow of the Yeti...and then we were ready to go off....and then the Yeti swings away...Then, something BUZZED by my head, it was a BAT!!!! So of course, I scream "THERE'S A BAT"....
kinda like that Jessica Simpson thing where she screamed "JELLYFISH...it's a plastic bag Jess".... Melissa made me watch those.....
and we still sit there....and sit there.....and sit there...
and sit there...
My first thought was "oh my God we're gonna be on the news"
And Andy told me I was crazy....there was no bat....until some other chicks in the front of the train started screaming there was a bat...and then we saw it fly by again and Andy knew I wasn't joking....
Finally, we took off again only to come to another complete stop....this time in the frickin' dark right after passing the real Yeti....still stuck in the stinking cave with the screaming and the Yeti on our tails...... THAT WAS FREAKY!!!
But, it was the best freaking ride ever!! Those poor girls...we tried to tell them that it wasn't always like that and to give it another chance, but I'm not sure the one chick believed us.
BTW, we have video of the ride Stay tuned
We came back around and rode Primeval Whirl and for some reason I got a little freaked on this ride.... we again were riding with a newbie....she kept screaming at the kid that made her ride that she didn't know it spun so much.
And she was gonna kill his brother for making her go on it
And we came off they were unloading the people on the left, mid-ride...which did not sit well with my nervousness
with your bat buzzed head??
No my nervousness from riding on our side.....AND, before we got on the ride we were GONNA go to the left, but we always go to the left, so Andy suggested that we go to the right.... God love Andy for that!!
I don't know if you all know this, but I'm a medium and I saw in our future us getting stranded on the left side so I said that we needed to go to the right.
Anyway.....after that, we meandered towards the tree.....we pointed out all the theming in Dinoland....if you have read the AK book that I mentioned earlier you will appreciate the theming there....the Dinosaur ride is part of the Dino Institute and the students that go there are the ones painting "asaurus" at the end of everything b/c they think it's funny....thus comes Restaurant-asaurus. The road side carnival of Chester and Hester is there to make money off of the Dino Institute. That book is very interesting people!!!
So after making it to the tree we had some photopass pictures made...and then we were gonna try to see Mickey and Minnie b/c we've never seen them here in their safari garb. We found them at the spot my beloved Stitch is supposed to be in.... so we got a quick pic...
That picture cracks me up....check out Minnie and her Carmen Electra "I'm sexy with my finger in my mouth" pose.... what's up with that???
Then we found Mr. Stitch, we just happened to come up on him and of course I wanted to see him..... so we hopped in that line..
After a bit more meandering around and goofing off we headed back to the WL to turn in. The plan for tomorrow was to hit the MK for am EMH.....we'll see if that happens

but it is all so good ...I can't believe there was a BAT on EE...how scary!!
yay...you guys got your backseat...hehe
loved the hug you got from Stitch...too cute
awesome video and pictures as always!!
looking forward to more...
Yeah...you're back!! Sounds like a fantastic night! Isn't it funny how sometimes the things that go "wrong" (ie your EE ride) make the trip exciting and different?!

Looking forward to another Christmas with The Mouse!!
Fantastic video and pics!!! The whole "bat" scene was pretty cool. I probably would have been screaming more at the bat instead of the ride. I hate those critters!!!
Love the bat story. And it's funny, but EE did the same 'stopping' when we rode later in the week.
Melissa, if you love the AK Imagineering Guide, you should take the Wild by Design Tour. I'll be reviewing it at some point in my TR but it was sensational. I have a whole new outlook at AK now.
