As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

The staff could have handled it so much better and no one seemed to take control of the situation, which there is no excuse for as what could have happened! I think they're worried about being sued! They should have been more up front with Mark, instead of getting him all worried! Glad it turned out fine!
Anyway, love the shop in the hotel! You are not kidding about having the best table and view in the restaurant! Love the lounge area and especially that circular bar, which is so cool and inviting!

What a lovely hotel, but with apparently a not so lovely management.

Tuesday 13 September – part ten: shall we go outside to get some photos?
The view from our table at Le Sam outside was beautiful, but it was very tough trying to get photos of it. Still, it lives on in our memories…
We loved all the symbols they had in the menu – very neat!
We ended up getting a bottle of Riesling to accompany the meal, which was wonderful.
We were also presented with this bread, which our server Marc Antonie, described as “addictive” and he wasn’t wrong. There was only one piece left by the time we’d finished with it.
It turned out that we were both considering the same two appetisers, so we decided to get them and share them. We had the crab cake from Gaspesle, tomatoes and smoked paprika sour cream, and although there wasn’t much on the plate, they were extremely delicate and light and perfect for a starter to a meal..
The other dish we decided to share was the Canadian lobster salad, with mesclun, and crunchy vegetables and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Given the description, we were very surprised when it turned up with strawberries on it. We weren’t sure how well they would go with the lobster, but wow, what a good combination. I also thought I might not like the vinaigrette, but you could barely taste it, so maybe they were just very light with it?
For entrée, Mark was debating over the two lamb dishes on the menu, but when Marc Antoine came to take our orders, it was as if he’d read Mark’s mind. He got as far as saying “I’m not sure what to go with”, and the next words out of our server’s mouth were “the rack of lamb”, which was one of the options he was toying with. Ok then – sold! Apparently, it’s the most popular dish on the menu, and I heard no complaints from Mark about it. To give it its full title, it’s roasted rack of lamb, oriental spices marinade, lukewarm green beans salad with bacon and onion confit, and gabrielle roasted potatoes.
I had a much easier choice, especially after Mark pointed out the accompaniment to it, which I love, so I opted for the grilled walleye fillet, with pearl barley cream (like a risotto) and grilled vegetables. This is how it was written on the menu, and what I loved was that’s exactly how it was written in French too. The pearl barley was a little under cooked for my taste, but I quickly got used to it, and the flavours combined together beautifully.
We both opted out of desserts, deciding that we were just comfortably full, and we didn’t want to leave here feeling sick. It had been a beautiful meal, and really lived up to all the great reviews I’d read on TripAdvisor.
Our server asked if we wanted a photo of the two of us, and of course, I said

I was in two minds after we finished about heading outside to get some photos, but I figured if we didn’t, I’d always regret it, and wondered what our home for the night looked like after dark. Although it was cold outside the entrance to the hotel, I think that’s more because it was a wind tunnel, as once we got out of that, it was very pleasant, and they were forecasting lows of the mid 60s tonight, which was ridiculously warm for Quebec City for this time of year.
I have to say maybe I was expecting more in terms of being lit up, but I’m glad we got to see it. We had talked, after seeing Celebrity in port earlier, about maybe finding a cruise that comes here, and if did, of course we wouldn’t get the night views.
We also got some views out across the river…
With that, we made our way back to the hotel, having had a thoroughly wonderful day in Quebec City (with the exception of the fall). We really had both fallen in love with this beautiful place.
The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the mid 70s. The best thing today was getting to stay at the Fairmont Chateau Le Frotenac The worst thing today was my fall at the pool. Today we tried taking the tour of the Citadelle of Quebec And the result was it was well worth it. The most magical moment today was walking outside the hotel on the boardwalk both in the daytime and at night.

17 years ago, we took the ferry to Levis and back just after sunset and got those night time photos from the water. It's so beautiful. It was too darn cold for the ferry on our trip this past summer though, and/or we ran out of time too. So happy you came to this city!

Dinner looked so good!! Walleye is a VERY popular fish in Minnesota, so I didn't realize they featured it that much further East. But then again, the Great Lakes do feed into the St Lawrence, so I guess it makes sense.

Oh wow, you know I didn't even think about doing that for this trip. Something to remember when (being optimistic here, although I have no definite plans to do so ) we get back there...

So am I - honestly, it was Toronto/Niagara Falls that had originally made it to the bucket list, but I was keen to visit Quebec City too, then I heard so many wonderful reviews of the place, I was perhaps looking forward to it the most out of the whole road trip and it did not disappoint!
