An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 36 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A very nice gathering with your family and so many siblings you have! I love the dogwood as I love the blooming flowers on it! In my condo complex, we have many of them adjacent to the walking paths which go as a big row through the inner courtyard! They look so beautiful when they bloom. Have yet to show signs of doing so yet, with such a cold winter. Unfortunately, you only see these for about ten days or so....and then they're gone! We have a variety of white, red and pink blooms! Have a great view of them from my deck and makes living here at times quite special!
I wouldn't worry about the packing as you'll get it done. My clothes I do a day or two beforehand (depending on if I take an extra day off before the trip). The other stuff, I start on a week or two before, just to have it done and have it organized and set aside!

Your area sounds lovely. I've always wanted to visit DC when the cherry trees are in bloom. We do have a few siblings as I'm one of three and Luke is one of five.

I think, I chose the right place to live! I must have visited 40+ units in my condo search and 30+ developments in my area and it certainly worked out in my favor and got what I wanted as I think I have just about everything I want here!

We just returned from WDW and we chose the same color magic bands that you and Luke did! I thought they were good F&G Festival colors!!! Great video of Luke's train going around the track He did a really great job! The topiaries and gardens are so beautiful at Epcot. I know you're going to really enjoy seeing them.

I am getting so excited about returning to the F&GF just 12 days from now!

I totally intended to work on the packing list today, but one thing led to another, and then I was out of time as I volunteer on Wednesday afternoons at Care Net from 1:00 – 4:00. Luke and I had planned to walk in our neighborhood around 10:00 AM, but Luke read a little article in today’s paper that our nature park was selling tulip trees for $4 each. One leg of our city’s Green Belt starts at this nature park, so we decided to buy some trees and then take our 5K walk along the Green Belt here. We purchased two trees, both very small. As we were wrapping up on 3.6 miles (total for month = 86.2 miles), we realized that Luke’s mom had called both of us. Just as Luke started the car, she called back. She wanted to know if Care Net bought used strollers for clients. I told her no, but Luke and I decided that $30 wasn’t much to pay for a stroller that had originally been $199. [Unfortunately, Care Net cannot accept baby equipment unless it is brand new in the box. New information for me as I’d never thought to ask.] But I was able to get the stroller to a former student and his fiancée who will have their first baby in November. By the time we got home, I needed to get ready. End result – no time for packing. But the packing list is on the top of my to do list for tomorrow.
While I was getting ready, Luke planted our two newest tulip trees (we had one already that is 3 years old). They aren’t really much more than twigs, but Luke added potting soil to the mix and plans to water them twice a day. With some TLC, they should take off.
On our walk yesterday Luke asked me if he remembered correctly that I wanted to pick out my Mother’s Day present at WDW. I had actually said that, but recently Disney sent me an e-mail about a new Dooney & Bourke line of purses, the Best of Mickey. I already have a similar patterned Harvey bag, I have almost all of the Mickey parts kitchenware, and even the Mickey Pandora charm with shorts, shoes, glove, and ears. It is my favorite Disney pattern. So late yesterday afternoon, he gave me permission to order it. I got the Disney Visa Reward Card discount plus free shipping, and Kentucky sales tax is a smidge cheaper than in Disney World. Today I even got an e-mail that the purse had already shipped, so I’m hopeful it will be here before we leave. By the way, I choose the crossbody bag.
My DSis Pam and I have been e-mailing back and forth to set up some park time together. Her school will be in testing that week, so she won’t be able to join us until Saturday. I had wondered if she’d be disappointed that we’d be back at AK as she went there with us in October. But she was still excited, so I quickly got on to My Disney Experience app and copied all our FP+ selections to her. It was a breeze. We have Finding Nemo: The Musical (which she has never seen), It’s Tough to be a Bug, and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Now we have a little family time as part of the trip.
I’ve been working for weeks on my teaching scrapbook album, and it is coming along pretty well. But yesterday the whole time I was working with some pictures, I kept thinking some photos were missing. So while watching TV last night, I searched through all my photos (and there are lots and lots of them), finding not only the missing ones I remembered, but also some others that I want to include. I uploaded the new photos to Shutterfly and made an order. I still have plenty to do until these get here, but I’m not sure if I’ll meet my goal of finishing this album before we leave for WDW. I also got an e-mail from Shutterfly that the pics had shipped, but since they use USPS for their shipping, that little orange package seems to take longer to arrive than I expect each time.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
A nice productive day, even though it seemed to prevent you on working on your packing day! But you still have 12 days, so I wouldn't worry about it to much as you'll certainly get it done!! Love the look and style of the purse. Hope, your photos arrive soon!
