A Christmas Ship Comes Sailing In (A Cam and Luke TR) Completed 2/18 - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great wrap up! Another lovely trip in the books. We just booked a cruise for 2016 and are going to all the same ports you did (minus Key West) only we're on the Fantasy. Although with us traveling with 2 little ones I'm thinking a 3 hour bus tour like yours would not be a good idea. I'm sure we'll find something to do though! Thanks for sharing!
Congrats on the cruise! I don't think I would have wanted to take Stefanie on a 3 hour bus tour either.

Cam, just courious even though you did not use points for this cruise, did you book through DVC? Or did you have it documented on your paperwork? I was just wondering how they knew you were a dvc member.

What a great trip! It made me think back to our own trip on the Magic several years ago (we did the other itinerary, though). We can't wait to get back to cruising, either! If we lived within 13 hours of Disney, we'd probably go a lot more & drive. For us, it's almost a 24 hour drive, so breaking it up into 2 days is really the only option. Looking forward to hearing about your next adventures!

I want you to know I started your TR so many times and always got pulled away for something and I kept losing track of where I was so yesterday I sat down and started reading from the beginning and finally finished now and I am so happy I did.
What a great cruise. I love your pictures from the verandah, the sunset on your last day I think was amazing. I loved hearing about all your meals, everything sounded delicious and so did all your desserts.
Sorry you were dissappointed with Key West, I loved the quaint feel of it when we visited but I think it was different as we were staying in a resort, so it was more of a nice leisurely place to wander (and the bar scene was fun....lol)
Loved your cusine class in Cozumel, that would definitely be up my alley and it looked yummy and fun all at the same time.
I like that you had some busy days and some relaxing days....perfect way to enjoy a cruise. Thanks for sharing!!!
Some good info in your wrap-up. I always enjoying reading your reports and this one did not disappoint. You reinforced my opinion that DCL is the best cruise line. We recently did a Royal Caribbean and it was nice but not as enjoyable as DCL. DCL just has so many little things that give it the edge.
Glad to hear that the road trip was enjoyable and doable for yall. I guess it is nice to be retired and not have to worry about squeezing it all into vacation time. I told DH that after we retire, I want to spend atleast 6 wks camping at Ft Wilderness.

For this recent cruise we did book through DVC as we were using a discount only offered to DVC guests paying for a cruise without using points. In 2006, we booked through Sam's Club as they had the best price at the time, and Disney still knew we were DVC members and had a magnet on our door and invited us to a party.

24 hours is a long road trip. Driving will allow us more opportunities to get down to Florida. It is also helping us save points and money toward a flight to LA to visit DL in October for Luke's 55th birthday.

for taking the time to read the whole thing. The cruise gave us a balance of relaxation and activity without us ever feeling stressed.

Looking forward to your next TR.
Being retired really does make when we travel so much easier. I like being able to work around crowd levels, weather, and DVC points.

Loved finishing up your report and reading your final thoughts. It seems as though you and Luke are adapting nicely to retired life. And I am glad you are enjoying the relaxed pace.
Glad to read you didn't mind the drive to/from Florida. When you think about all the extra time you have to set aside for airplane travel these days, driving is even more attractive.

Luke and I have definitely adapted to retired life, and totally enjoy it. Driving gives us more choice in travel for sure.
A very nice wrap up to your TR and I really enjoyed this! Glad the two of you had such a wonderful time and knowing that this is one of your all time favorite vacations! Makes me look forward to mine even more!
Thanks for the info on the tipping. Does Disney break it down for you on how much you give the servers and porter of do you decide how much to allot to each of them with the prepaid amount ($84 for me)?

Disney has it all divided up for you and all you have to do is cut the slips apart and put each in the provided envelopes.

Thanks and that makes it easy! I'm sure you can put a bit extra in one of the envelopes if the service you received was exceptional, if you decided to do so.

Loved your cruise report. Makes me excited to go on the refurbished Magic in May!
I loved doing the animation at Animator's on the Fantasy and so excited to hear it's on the Magic as well! It's lots of fun watching your creation 'move'!
Can't wait until your next tr--be it WDW or DCL!!! Thanks for sharing!
