Sparky's Gone to the World- A TR 9/13/11-9/20/11 - Page 34 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you DH tried BTMMR and Splash Mountain! Your BBB experiences was so magical! All the pictures are absolutely wonderful! She makes a beautiful princess!
I was so proud of him for doing it, and that he didn't hate it! I don't care if he doesn't them like I do, but being able to just ride once is all I am looking for. He is more of a Mickey's Philharmagic Guy. It's one of his faves, mine too for shows.
Thanks Cam, I think DD is pretty too. But of course, I know, I am biased.

Thanks Marnie! I am very happy with the results. We had so many great pics this year, it made it very hard to decide which one were going in our Disney collage frame.

i love the BBB makeover. i've actually never seen one like that--the ones i've always seen were tight little buns with lots of glitter. she looked lovely with 'real' cinderella!
What wonderful pictures, she makes such a beautiful princess. I really love the whole BBB thing, it really is worth the money to see their faces. It is such a great experience. Love all the pictures of DD and the princesses.
Glad that DH rode BTMRR and SM na dived to tell the tale My oldest is not a rider either but she now loves BTMRR, SM.....one time was it for her. She just hates that drop, even though I am trying to convince her to give it one more try on our next trip. It has been years since her plunge told her she might enjoy it much more now.
I have never ridden BTMRR or Splash either. I may be riding them this November. We'll see. I'm with DH on the Mickey's Philharmagic or Cinderella Carosel. I hope DD is ok. Great pics from BBB! But worried about that eye. (pink eye?)

Me too! I thought it was a wonderful experience for DD and next time we go she might not want something like that, she'll be 10 then. Who knows. But I wanted to gt the opportunity in while she would have fun with it and be excited for it.
I have seen the tight bun hairstyle, it's called The Princess. It seems to be more popular than The Diva, but I think it's because the parents pick it more. It's classic, and cooler in the weather. I told DD she could pick whichever style she wanted, but I knew all along she would pick The Diva. Thus, the crown that we brought with us. The Diva doesn't come with the crown, unless you buy it a la carte. The crown we brought was a real one that was metal. The ones you get at BBB are just plastic. It was the same price as the BBB one, and DD was excited that she has a unique one that was super sparkly. I like that my DD is like that, you know...likes to be unique and not want what all the other girls have (well to a point. I did have to get the dress that was there.)
Check out the siggy pic of the poster just below you, her DD got The Diva too!

Thanks Meg! I have been admiring your princesses photo on your siggy pic for months. It's great! It definately was worth the money to see her little face light up. She was so happy, and thought she was the cat's meow. It was an experience that will never be forgotten that is for sure.
I am so proud of DH for riding on those rides. I know how hard it was for him, but he did it for our DD. She wanted him to ride with her so badly. I hope you DD braves Chick a Pin Hill once again. It's one of my fave rides. I also think that the ride is so much more than the hill, and your missing out for a drop that is done in a blink of an eye. That is what I kept telling my DH, before your even able to be scared really, it's done!
Thanks for following along!

Coooooooop! You have to ride at least BTMRR when you go. I understand that it might be chilly enough not to want to get wet on SM, but BTMRR is a must! It is SO fun!!
Thanks, I am thrilled with how the pics at BBB came out. I wish we made it over to the studio at Castle Couture, but we forgot. Thank goodness, you couldn't see her eye in the BBB or CRT photos. But you will later. Stay tuned.
Looks like your DD had a great time at BBB. She turned out so cute! I wonder what's going on with her eye! I hope it's not pink eye because that would totally suck right now.

Thanks Melissa! I was so happy with the BBB. Just wait till your little cutie is big enough for it. So awesome!
As far as her eye goes...well you'll have to see. I'll get out the next post this week sometime.
Wonderful pictures from BBB! DD looks like she really enjoyed herself and she turned out to be a beautiful little princess! Glad you had a great time at CRT and MK too!

Thanks Kathy! It was a very nice day, and DD enjoyed herself immensely. Of course I am biased, but I think she is gorgeous.

Your DD makes a very lovely princess! Love the tiara you got her!
It's amazing what we'll do for our kids, isn't it? Very impressed with your DH for getting on rides he didn't like just for your DD! I agree with you that a lot of people miss out on a really great ride just because of that drop.
Hope you make it to GG, we really enjoyed our dinner there! Also hoping that your daughter doesn't have pink eye, & if it is, getting the drops doesn't take too much time from your vacation.

Thank you! You can't see real well but it was blue and clear crystals. Very pretty.
I was very proud of my DH for getting on those rides. He admitted they were fun, but no more (that trip) for him. That's good for me.
Hoping to get the next entry out by Thurs! Thanks for following along.
We got back to the resort and headed to the room. We laid down for about 30 minutes and then I checked out DD eye. It seems to have gotten worse all afternoon. It was bright red and swollen now. After discussing what we should do with DH, it was decided that she definitely needed to be seen somewhere.
I called down to the front desk, as we have never had a medical issue in WDW, and I was unsure of what to do and where to start. When I reached the front desk, I explained the situation. They said that I could go to Centra Care and started explaining where it was located. I interrupted at this point and told them I have no car to get there. He said that I would have to take a cab, and that he would connect me to please hold. With the cab on its way, we walked to the lobby to wait. DH and I discussed what we would do about our ADR. It was decided that because it was only 4:30 and our ADR wasn’t till 7:30, maybe we would make it. Fingers crossed DD would be seen quickly.
We arrived at Centra Care about 15 minutes later. At the desk, I was told that they don’t take my insurance. I would have to pay OOP and then submit to reimburse, otherwise I had to go to the hospital. I inquired at the cost just to be seen and she said about $300. Um…thanks, but no thanks! I was about in tears and DH was about to lose it at this point, not understanding why they wouldn’t take DD. I said to the woman “Well can you or can you let me, call a cab so we can get to the hospital?”
She said they have complimentary transportation and the driver would take us right over there. So, we hopped in the van and were off. Lucky for us our driver Stan was wonderful, very helpful and pleasant, making a bad situation better. DH asked at some point what we were going to do when we were done at the hospital. I said, “Well I guess we are going to take a cab back to the resort!” not so nicely. I mean I didn’t swear or anything, but the tone was angry. With that, Stan said “When you’re done, give Centra Care a call and tell them that you were there and they sent you to the hospital. I will pick you up and bring you to your resort.” With that he gave us a brochure for Centra Care.
We arrived at the hospital, thanked Stan profusely and told him that he was the difference between a horrible experience and a great one.
When the doctor had seen DD, he said that her eye was not scratched and there was nothing in it. He said he didn’t think it looked like Pink Eye, but to be safe and not sorry, he was giving up a prescription for meds for PE regardless. We checked out and I inquired about where to get my script filled. They told me to go to concierge and they will send it over to Turner Drugs who delivers to the resorts. Perfect!
Once outside, we called Centra Care and I told them what Stan said, and they replied that he would be there for us in 10 minutes. In the meantime, there were 2 woman (mother and adult daughter) sitting on the bench with us waiting for their ride. The daughter was saying how she didn’t mean to behave that way but it hurt so bad she couldn’t help herself and she was embarrassed as the whole hospital probably heard her. I have no idea what was wrong with her, but her mom said that she was just outside the door and couldn’t hear her. I leaned over and said, “Hey, you weren’t the first, and you won’t be the last. I couldn’t hear you, so I wouldn’t worry about it.” She thanked me and we started chatting. At some point, I asked where they were staying and it ended up they were at the POP too. Just then Stan (the Man!) pulled up, DH said “run over and ask him if these ladies can ride along too.” I did and Stan said, “Sure!” The women were very grateful as they were taking a cab back to the resort. Once in the van, Stan says to the women, “I have never seen you, you don’t know me. You have never been in this van!” Apparently, you can only get rides from them if you were sent somewhere by them because the women didn’t start out at Centra Care he was technically not suppose to bring them, but since they were going to the same resort and were ready…
We all thanked Stan for his help and for being so nice to us. We gave him a nice tip and the women did too.
All in all, the entire trip from when we first left the resort till we got back was about 2.5 hours. We still had about a half hour to get to our ADR at Garden Grill, but decided that we had to be up bright and early the next morning and we had a long day. Therefore, once again we missed our GG ADR and opted to swim and eat in the caf. instead. I am beginning to think that we are not meant to eat there for some reason!
I brought DD prescription up to concierge. Turner Drugs would have it there within 2 hours and the front desk would call to come pick it up. Turner doesn't accept insurance, you have to pay OOP and there is a delivery fee. All in all the script cost us $43 including delivery. Not bad!
I took DD swimming in the Hippy Dippy Pool and she was very happy. She had wanted to go swimming since arrival and has just really learned to swim, so she wanted to practice. We found that the pools have life vests, which was great, and they aren’t very deep so most of the time the water was above DD head.
The other kids…not so great! Lots of the kids were diving into the pool, which made DD want to do it too. I wouldn’t allow her, as I thought that less than 4 ft. of water was not enough for jumping. A lot of kids were running and jumping in, almost on my DD. After about an hour, we were getting hungry so we got out drying a bit and getting some dinner.
We were in the room by 10:00 and by 10:30, receipts were accounted for and the lights were out. Good night!
DD poor eye after we got back from the hospital.
UPDATE OF THE PINK EYE: Upon returning home, I found out that Pink Eye was running rampant through DD’s school while we were away. That and consequent mornings DD eye was crusty and gooey. I believe that DD had Pink Eye and the meds cleared it up within days.
Up Next: Bright and early morning (at the track by 8am) for DH’s NASCAR ride!!
