Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What a wonderful friend for Hannah, I think it is great that she has someone who can understand her better. Sounds like it was a wonderful afternoon...for everyone.

I that that is wonderful! Hope your final plans are going well! As far as the check in preferences, I just stayed at POR and I had my building request noted over the phone when I made my reservation, so I didn't have to make any preferences in the online process. We arrived at 930 am on check in day and our room was ready in our requested building and with an even better view than what we had paid for! Good luck!!
What do you teach? I do think kids are kinder these days to those with "big' or obvious issues. Bullying is more subtle and more likely to be targeted at "regular" kids who are a bit different.

My son invited the twins' older brother (the one with autism) to his birthday party. He said he did it because the kid thinks they are friends and he was standing there when he was talking to others about it. He also told me that he secretly hoped the kid could not make it. But he did. I was so impressed with how ben and the other boys treated the boy. They were nice to him when he was trying to be a part of things, they let him be alone when he needed it, and they ignored his odd behavior. The adults present seemed more on edge than the kids!

And that was when me and the parents figured out that hannah was in one of thier girls' classes. We also talked about how awesome the school social worker is!

About POR...did you also do online checkin? Were you given request options? Did you see your previous requests already noted there?

Incredible that your room was ready so early. I am hoping that happens for me. We arrive at noon on a thursday...

Yes - we arrived home early Sunday morning at 2:30. It was a wonderful trip - I started a trip report today. We only needed the GAC twice during the trip. We were a bit over run with Italian tour groups this time.

I just posted this generally....but I thought I would add it to my PTR to show how insane I am getting with the planning

I am now confused on what is really open during am EMH at AK. I mean, I thought I knew...

This is the list from the WDW site:
Mornings:

DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, It's Tough to be a Bug!, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
Evenings:

DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough to be a Bug!, Kali River Rapids, Primeval Whirl, TriceraTop Spin

Here is the list from DIS:

So...On the WDW site, Primeval Whirl and Triceratop Spin are listed only in pm not am. DIS has PW in am but not TS. Allears has it the same as WDW.

HOWEVER...Today when I checked the lines app when I woke up (like I am the only one who does that! ) I saw that both TS and PW were listed as open during the AK EMH.

If they are both open for EMH that will help us tremendously...Delaney is too small for PW but TS would keep her entertained just fine. We also plan to hit EE during EMH which neither girl will do. I hate the ides of them getting to AK so early just to sit while brother and dad do fun rides.

This would also fix our park flow problem---I would like to minimize walking since we will not have a stroller....

We would start in Dinoland for PW/TS and Dinosaur...Next to EE...Then to KS (which should be just about the time of "real" park open). We should then be in perfect position to catch a train to Rafiki's (our priority this trip and trains start at 9:30). We should then be able to catch the Lion King (11:30?) before lunch at Tusker House (12:30). We will swing around one more time to do KRR before Nemo. If we have time to kill before Nemo (3pm?), the Boneyard is also on our must do (never done) list.

Whew...

But I know you understand!

I know that is on your must do list, I think it is close to the LMA show, and it would give the kids a chance to run around a bit after sitting for the show (I think the show is 45 min long but not sure. ). Just a suggestion!
I tried doing that on my last visit and HISTK had at least 50 people waiting to get into the playground. We then got stuck in a total gridlock situation ove by Toy Story. We backtracked over and got into a line to do Muppets but got into the next show. All told we probably wasted 30-45minutes just trying to get out of all the crowd and find something with out a line. I suggest you get as far away from LMA as quickly as possible or just hang out in the stands for like a half hour after the show.

Yike 107 for school supplies!!! Evan is going to kindergarten this year so that will be a rude awakening for me. I don't yet have his list but I'm hoping to get away with 25.00.

YAY for Hannah and her friend. That girl sounds like a keeper to me.

I've heard that the hotels don't make actual room assignments until 24 hours before check in. With that therory you could do online check in at 10 days or 5 and shouldn't make a difference.

Have fun at the cabin.

Last october I found EMH at AK were a waste of time as my son wouldn't go on any of the big rides and the trails were all closed.

I realized I forgot omention how much I LOVE your mousekeeping envelopes! They are perfect! Great idea! I love how things just "seem" to work out for a reason! I know Heavenly Father knew to have the little autistic boy standing around Ben as he was talking about his bday party. Once again, it shows your great parenting skills that even though Ben secretly did not want him there, he still invited him,and what a blessing that turned out to be!!! We all need a friend who will love us for our good, bad, and ugly times (because we all have them). I'm so glad Hannah has found one for her. That little girl sounds like a keeper for sure! I hope they end up in the same class together this year. I'm sure your trip will be great, but I understand your worries.

I don't have a child on the autism spectrum (but my sister does), and I still worry. Honestly, our last trip was far from ideal my oldest daughter was sick for half of the trip. We had to take her to the urgent Care Center. She had gotten severe sinus infection and had to be put on antibiotics. She did not feel good enough to eat much (we were on the DDP, so we had reservations). She ate yogurt pretty much for every meal, and only felt good enough to spend a little over half a day in the parks. I thought our trip was ruined. I actually just realized that we kind of used the philosophy of the friend you made during your first trip (i think you met him in line at Soarin..cant remember his name),and remembered we are lucky to be there, and that this is a family vacation and to enjoy what we could. We had to change our plans, like I stayed with my youngest daughter every day while my husband went back to the hotel with my oldest for her to rest (he was fine with that as he can't ride the thrill rides anymore and that's what my youngest lives most). Some days we even went back to the hotel with them and my youngest daughter had the best time swimming! We have great memories from that trip too, just different! .
Sorry to go off on a tangent! I guess I'm trying to say don't let your worries take over. I bet when it gets closer, the excitement of Disney will take hold in Hannah. We all have bumps, and bad moods at times, even at Disney...at least my family does. Lol. I'm excited that your trip is so close! Have a great time at the cabin too!
Oh, and I feel you pain on the price of school supplies! Our list gets a little more expensive each year. Plus my oldest is doing marching band this year, and her fees are almost $700 just for that!!! Yikes!
Can't wait to read your TR! I'm almost as excited as if I were going myself. I'm excited to read about how paying OOP for food goes too as we are really contemplating that!

Ok so I'm late in reading your PTR, but I finished reading it before you left! Sounds like your planning was a little back and forth at times, but that you've got great plans for the trip now! I think your AK plans sound pretty doable. We loved the Boneyard when we were there in January. The Boneyard was the highlight of the trip for DS. He still looks at pictures and talks about it so I think it's a great must do to have!

I can't believe how much income you have from garage sales and surveys. I keep thinking I should have a garage sale sometime. Maybe next year when I have more baby clothes and stuff to get rid of. Of course I'll have a 1 year old and a 3 year old then so it might not be the best time to tackle something like that.

I will say I'm a little disappointed that you aren't driving. Well actually I'm happy for you that you don't have to deal with the long drive, but I was reading and thought "oh good I'll get to hear about someones experience driving from Minneapolis" and then you changed your plans! I've considered driving from Mpls. a few times because of the prices of airfare, but it just seems like such a long drive and I haven't wanted to attempt it. And now that I have little kids I don't think it would be a good idea. And I will say how you broke down the price of flying vs. driving was a great way to make your decision on the matter!

Anyways enough of a book from me. I hope your pre-trip activities and prep go smoothly and you have a great time on your trip. I can't wait to hear about it when you get back!

How does your daughter do with sudden loud noises? When you walk into the boneyard, on the right side toward the back there are large dinosaur footprints. They can be accessed either through a cave, or going around the cave. They make a huge t-rex worthy roaring sound when someone walks/jumps/runs over them. It scared the daylights out of my youngest - so much so that we had to avoid roaring noises, fireworks and large dinosaurs for the remainder of that day. In fact, he woke up this morning yammering about "scary noise" and pointed to a plastic dinosaur the boys have in their room.

You might want to prepare Hannah for it, or help her to avoid that area until she's used to the sound.
