National parks, natural beauty and a bit of Disney wonder! COMPLETED - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We traveled up through Teton into Yellowstone, and I think you're right. The mountains are so majestic and then you get all the various vistas and wildlife at Yellowstone. We've also only gone in June so there's still lots of snow. I think the mountains are more impressive covered with snow.

I'm so used to seeing an update from you daily, I get concerned when there isn't one. I hope all is well and you just got busy, or maybe needed a bit of sleep!

No worries, she had a late meeting last night and stayed in town.

I like craggy mountain views, so these shots look spectacular to me. I agree, if there was passing room on those routes, that's not a "narrow, winding road"! Those roads in Cornwall (or northern Scotland) feel too narrow for even one car!
I'm not great with birds, but I THINK the flying one is an Osprey?? And the little one on the ground looks like a female sage grouse. Very cute!
After having seen various mountains across the states, I still love the look of the Tetons. I have yet to see the Swiss Alps (aside from your photos, of course ). I'm glad you still had sunny weather, but it looks like it was a bit hazy that morning. Kind of a bummer!
Oh my goodness, the Alps were just amazing - maybe that's also why the Tetons didn't wow me as much?
It's funny how people have their favorite park. Mine does happen to be the Tetons. We did get to hike it though. Almost got to our destination but there was too much snow on the trail and I was afraid we would get lost. A few days later we went to the Rocky Mtns which we hiked as well. When we got to our destination, my daughter said "this is it?" We were not impressed at all.
Interesting - and a bit scary about the snow on the trails...

Lovely photos. I think that was an eagle/hawk of some sort (no white on the bottom of the wings - so its not a vulture) - although I cannot quite tell which species of eagle or hawk it is.
I had no idea about the white on the bottom fo the wings being a vulture - they really are horrible, ugly birds...
You know, it's strange to have people talk about the views, when we have similar ones here all the time. When my parents come visit from Louisiana, they can't believe the views they get from our house. I guess I just take them for granted!
I am learning so much from your TR, and am sadly learning about stuff practically in my backyard! I am filing away much of this information so we can plan our own trip soon.
You do end up taking your own area for granted, like I take it for granted that we can head into London any weekend we like. I know to a lot of people that's amazing - and they're surprised we don't do it all the time, but you tend not to, if it's on your doorstep.
Well, at least if the information helps with the trip planning, that's good...!

You're probably right - I can imagine they would look more majestic with snow...

Now I knew there was something I'd forget and I couldn't think what it was - me bad! As Wendy said, I had a meeting last night and so stayed closer to work. Just as well as I was working until 9.50pm last night!
Sunday 11 September – part three: I’m glad we didn’t stay here!
We arrived at Jenny Lake and took the scenic drive round to the Jenny Lake Lodge, as this had been another option that we could’ve stayed at – well, had it not been for the insane price tag on it. If I remember right, when I priced it up, all that came up were suites for something stupid like $600. Driving through it, I cannot say how it warrants that price. It wasn’t in a great location at all, with far less facilities than Colter Bay. I wouldn’t want to stay here. :
It was while here that the cell phone rang and it turned out to be my parents. I told them that their timing was impeccable, as we’d only had cell service at Colter Bay, Jackson Lake Lodge and at the summit of Signal Mountain, but then again the latter did have a huge cell phone mast on top of it. We chatted for a few minutes and then moved on, heading for Jenny Lake South.
As we pulled up to this area, we could see that it was packed. One parking lot was already full, although we managed to find space in the second. I was hoping to take the boat across Jenny Lake to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point, but we were running out of time, as we had a long drive ahead of us to get to Orem in Utah, our stopping point for the night.
Instead, we went into the Visitor Centre and this had a lot more than Colter Bay, explaining how the mountain range was formed. It was really interesting and good for all ages. That’s probably just as well, as while last night in the restaurant, we had seriously been the youngest in there, over here, there were lots of families with young children.
We came out of there and walked down to the boat dock to get some photos.
Then we walked a little way along the trail, so that we could get some photos of the lake, with the mountains behind, and the boat, as it set off on its journey.
Perhaps the most poignant photo of the day, as America remembered 9/11 ten years on
We walked back and headed to the general stores, where we were able to grab a tuna sandwich on a sesame seed bun each, along with some honey roasted cashew nuts, which were very We had a bite to eat back at the car and set off, bound for the park exit.
We stopped at a couple of lookouts on the way out of the park and they were great, not just for views, but also for explaining about what we were seeing.
