August and Everything After WDW - Trip Report - Day 1 complete **Updated 8/29** - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Were you at the parking lot corner of the building or the other end more into the resort? If you were in the parking lot corner of the building and on the third floor then YOU my friend had the most furtherest away room according to us!!
One time at ASMu, we had a room that would give you your run on that #6 spot. We were in Country Faire the corner room on the end of the front of the building. The woods/bushes were the only thing past us. The only things farther would have been upstairs, I guess or maybe along the back of the T. It was quite the walk to the main bldg.....and we never used our refillables.
BTW, loving your report. The Heiny picture was awesome.
Okay, so picking up where we left off.... dinner, shopping, crude snowman....
We had decided to go over to the new Pixar Place.... I just decided we need to create a name for that he!! hole as it is one big cluster duck... Andy just came up with cluster duck as a way to censor ourselves......
Actually I have this visual of a duck, in his room, and there's a big cluster all over the place....he's the cluster duck
Yeah, what kind of drugs did you do at work today?
I guess I'm taking the same stuff Pom's taking cause I'm talking like him... he posted a similarly weird message on our myspace pages....
So anyway... it's like 20 after 9 and the park closes at 10. And it's EMH so that's all groovy. So we figure we'll go over and see if FP's are available for Toy Story Insania as Andy came to call it that night.....
So we get over there.... and it's a freaking mad house! People are already LINING UP FOR FASTPASSES. THERE WERE QUEUES TO WAIT IN A QUEUE!!!! What the frick?!?!?! People are nuts..... and so are we. I guess it's that herd mentality. You just follow the crowd.....
We asked people around what was going on....and bascially found out that they would be opening up the FP machines at 10. So people were waiting in line for 30 minutes to get FPs.... and I think the wait time for the standy by line was like only twice that much. But people just couldn't wait.... or they could.... b/c if you think about it, you wait 30 min. to get your FP, and then you wait for your FP to become active.....you coulda just waited in the standby and be out by time you're supposed to come back. Right? But I guess the fact that you can go and try to cram something in during the 30 min. period that you're waiting for your fastpass to become active is worth the 30 min. wait in the FP line itself..... are you confused yet????? Good
So, Andy gets in the line. And the CMs start yelling that only one person per family can wait in line. So I had to skeedaddle. I went and stood in the open shop across from the ride. Apparently 500 other women and children had the same idea.
The men had to go down with the ship.
So at 9:30 some announcement was made and to us bystanders way across the way we thought they were opening the machines early...but alas, no. They were just making everybody cram up together in line right?
Well, not just that. They were explaining that there are only a limited number of FP available and once they're gone they're gone for the night. People in the back may not get FPs. This is the moment when the guy in front of me looked back at me and said "I better get a f'ing FP" except he actually dropped the "f" bomb. But we'd been talking for awhile anyway, so he knew it was acceptable.
And it was cuthroat up there man. The innocent bystanders were cutting through the people trying to get through the park. And every line they came up to the people thought they were trying to cut in line. I thought there was going to be a fight. Then this lady came through on an electric wheelchair and pretty much ran over everyone's feet. Then this guy punched this lady in the face.......no that didn't happen.... but it was moments away from happening... (That lady behind me had it coming.. I kid I kid!)
It was chaos. I was standing back there and talking to anybody that would talk back to kill the 30 minutes of waiting. This one lady and I chatted about how she worked retail and she was having a panic attack thinking how easy it was for people to swipe things from that open shop with all the chaos of people. People were EVERYWHERE. She also talked with me about DVC as she's a member. Used to be at WL, then she and her man split and he wanted to keep it so now she's at the AKL!!!! niiiiiiice.
So finally 10:00 rolls around and the LINES OPEN!!!
There coulda been a cliff at the end of that line, and we would've all gone straight for it.
I kept trying to see where Andy was, watching the times roll by on the FP return time...... they were going quick. All the lines were open. Andy was like right in the middle of the line. I had talked to some English folks and her husband was a couple people in front of Andy. So he shows up, with FP's in hand... and I'm thinking okay....where's Andy. The DVC lady was nice enough to let me call him with her phone b/c he had mine...... but no answer. Was he still alive in there????? Had Toy Story Insania claimed Andy's life??????
Finally he appeared.
Bruised and battered from the fight I had with that lady behind me.
He first comes up and has this horrid look on his face....they're gone he says. I didn't get one. And I'm like FOOL, I can see the return time...I KNOW you got FPs!!! You can't fool me! So FP in hand, we joked about what sort of cold hard cash we coulda got for them right then, and got the h-e double hockey sticks outta there!!!
I took some pictures during this whole debacle...
First, going back to getting to Pixar Place...
The streets of america
You can see the chaos in the beginning
I pointed out where Andy was in the middle of the chaos. What a trooper!
I took some shots since I got kicked outta the line....
And the chaos progressed......
It was seriously kind of scary. You had people that just wanted to get from one end of the park to the other....some with their strollers, their little tired kids..... it was craziness. The only solution I can see is closing off thru traffic. That space is just not wide enough for all the people trying to cram themselves in there. I think it was a fire hazard
So like I said, we had our glorious FPs for Toy Story, so we headed over to the TOT. There wasn't really a wait at all. All the hoodlums were over at Toy Story. We had FP's from earlier so we used those.
I took a pic of Andy with his prized Toy Story FP in line..
The ride was fab as usual of course. Afterwards we checked to see how bad RnRC was. It was bad. So we moved on.
We stopped at the candy shop. I sat outside while Andy went in to grab something to drink. He came back with this wonderful tasty smores thing. It was very very good. While we rested and ate it started to rain a little. But we were prepared. We had our umbrellas! So we popped those puppies open and headed off towards Muppets. We had to stop at the Brown Derby's awning b/c the rain really started to pour. But it only lasted a few minutes and then it let up enough to move around with out rain coming from all directions....you know, Forrest Gump rain as I call it.
We made our way over to Muppet Vision.... stopped for a photo op...
We had to wait a few minutes inside....but little preshow makes it entertaining.
Yeah I do enjoy that preshow. I like Rizzo. Rizzo's the shizzo!! (This TR is rated PG-13)
There wasn't anybody in there hardly. They were all over at Insania. I took a few pics inside...
That clapboard cracked me up!!!!!
So we enjoyed the show.... then we had some time left before our FPs were ready so we went for a ride on Star Tours.
Then it was time. Time to kick some butt! Oh yes..........
It was very odd walking through there so quickly as compared to our previous experience where I wanted to rearrange Mr. Potato Head's face b/c I was so tired of him.
So we get in our little vehicle... and we're off. And what can I say...... I tore Andy up!!! I was ringing the 500 and 1000 point little green men who were yelling at me "oooooooooooo" "oooooooooo" which I then repeated for the whole rest of the trip! Loved it! I was throwing darts like a mad woman! Seriously..... I was seriously impressed with myself. Andy however..... not so much. I think he's a sore loser over there.... he doesn't have much to say all of a sudden.
So we get to the end....and I'm all hyper about my awesome score.....
Well, awesome to us... the only person you had to beat was me.
Whatever, sore loser... So I get my camera out and take a picture of the big screen. Taking the picture with my 3d glasses still on my face. Not thinking that the picture won't look like the way my eyes are seeing it at that moment..... yeah... I'm a dork.
nice...
So then I took a picture of the screen in the vehicle.
And I got a CAT!!! And I'm not going to mention the numerous amounts of jokes that we made about the prizes of beavers and cats, and the awkward way one must go about achieving a beaver or cat on the ride....... yeah... not going there. Nope.... nu-uh....
I'll go there....
CENSORED..... CENSORED...... CENSORED.....
Let's keep it kid friendly shall we??? But I know some of you have thought the same thing...... don't be shy to admit it!!
After Toy Story Insania we were POOPED and the park was about to close. We had been going since 6am. It was time to call it a day.
Time to return to the 6th fartherest away room.
Ah yes.... you joke, but you were very appreciative of its first floor location when we drug our tired bodies back in that night. No steps to hike up. We caught a bus with no problem, believe it or not.... seeing as we seem to always have bus problems at DHS. We were back and in bed in no time. Andy watched some Olympics
I LOVE that show!
you dork. Then we called it a night
Coming up: my tummy doesn't understand there's a schedule to follow!!!

Great update!! Matt had the same thought about selling the TSMM FPs Insania for sure!! I must say Melissa, YOU KICKED BUTT!! All I got out of that ride was carpal tunnel syndrome J/K..the ride was great, but it hurts!!
Glad you all made it back to the room safely!! And no one was injured in the obtaining of FPs More please
First Nepalese porn and now beavers and kitties, what will those Imagineers come up with next. I was picturing Andy being akin to a passenger on the Titanic trying to find you a deck chair to float on before the ship sunk. What a guy!
Great update Melissa. I love TSMM but I didn't score as good as you. I was left in the beaver class too!!! But I beat my kids . Those lines over there are insane. I stood in line for at least 30 minutes 20 minutes after the park opened and still it was 3:00 before our return time. Some of them people were seriously confused about where they were... its a ride guys, be serious here. We don't need to argue in a line to get a pass to stand in line again Glad you survived the insanity. Hurry back.
Isn't it amazing how adults go nutso when it comes to getting those TSMM fastpasses! When my niece and I were there in June, I waited in line for fastpasses (not quite as long as a wait as you guys) while Carly waited by the trash cans. There sitting on top of the trash can was 5 fastpasses for TSMM! When I got back with the fps that I stood in line for, she showed me what she had found. Between us we had 7 fps for TSMM! We stood there for a few minutes wondering if we should wait for someone to come frantically looking for their fps! But, nobody came. So we decided that we would share the wealth. We ended up giving a mom and her two boys 3 fastpasses. We used the others!
It sounds like you got some fun things done while you waited.
Gee Andy, sorry about your score!
Looking forward to some more craziness!!!
