The I CAN NOW TALK about my trip TR 8-15 to 8-21,2010 COMPLETED - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I haven't seen the American Adventure yet, but I'm going to make a point to see it this trip.
Sorry that you and DH had an argument, but all things considered, it didn't last long! On our first Disney trip, DBF gave me a chemical burn in my eye. Accidental, yeah, but that doesn't make it hurt any less! I could have had permanent vision damage. I won't ever let him forget that, either. At least you're nice enough to just not talk to him when you're fighting.
Still have no clue what Vinylmation is, but good luck finding the one that you want!
Also, great news for Katie sticking with cross country. I used to do it, but developed tendonitis in my feet and had to stop. It's a great sport, she'll get so much out of it regardless of where she finishes in the meets. Good luck to her!
I The American Adventure, too and it is growing on Luke and Stefanie. Sorry about the tiff before dinner and the water spill! I am so glad you finally enjoyed Illuminations; it's my favorite!

I got up early...big surprise...and threw on some clothes to go to the smoking section. When I came back I roused the troops. The plan for today was to go to MGM and then go to EPCOT for EMH. We got ready and headed out. We arrived at MGM and went to get fastpasses for TOT. With those in hand we went over to LMA which was starting at 11:15am. We stopped and got drinks and some nachos to snack on. We went in and had great seats. It was a really great show. During the show however, I asked Katie for the nacho cheese. She took it out of the tray it was in and I turned and smacked her hand by accident. Nacho cheese everywhere!!!! Mostly it landed on her leg. It was HOT!! I just burned my kid!! Great now what?? We cleaned her all up and she said she was fine. I kept putting my soda bottle on her leg. She had a long red line going down her thigh. After the show was over we stopped at the restroom and wash up and she said it didn't hurt anymore. What the heck else can go wrong??? By the end of the day the line was gone so at least so was okay...but still.
After LMA we headed over to Muppets and watched this show. Did I ever tell you Beaker is my favorite.
After Muppets we headed over to RNRC to get fastpasses and then to TOT to use our fastpasses. I was really scared through the whole line. I had only been on this once and that was enough for me. Since Katie had never been on this before I decided to suck it up and go on. We get in our seats and I am on the outside. During the ride someone was screaming and crying so LOUD....oh wait!!! That was me!!!! I was hysterical!! I was hyperventilating!!!! I made it!! After the ride was over, I was still crying. David decided that I couldn't go on RNRC anymore. But I like that one. Anyway we headed over to our ADR at Sci-Fi.
We checked in and I started talking to a woman next to me. We got called and headed to our car. David and I really love this place and Katie was too yound to remember it. They sat in the front and I sat by myself. We ended up picking up 2 hitchhikers so that was cool. Katie ordered the chicken bruschetta with fries and David and I both ordered the cheeseburger with onions, mushrooms, bacon and french fries. Katie and I also got milkshakes. Chocolate for her and Strawberry for me. Our meals were great!! Some people say that the food is okay but we had great food. For dessert we had the apple crisps and the sugar free brownie with ice cream. Our speeding ticket came to $77.76 and we gave him $20.00. What do you do after you've eaten and you are completely stuffed. Go on RNRC of course!!
We headed over there and while they went on I browsed the shops and walked around for a bit. They had an awesome tour as usual. After that we headed over to the GMR. It had a really long wait but it was worth it. We got the gangster one again. I don't think I'll ever get the other one. Anyway it was fun even though I was jammed at the end my row so I was pretty squished!! After that we headed over to Indiana Jones ae that was just starting. It was standing room only and people kept getting in front of us. They opened up the handicap sections for people to sit and it was like a flood of people rushing to these seats even though we were standing next them. People were pulling down the chains and rushing in. REALLY??? We ended up standing again. Whatever!!!! We left before it ended and called it a day.
We went back to POP for a while. I don't know what happened but we never went back to EPCOT. I do know that we went to DTD and walked around the stores for a while and then grabbed something to eat at Wolfgang Puck Express. David and Katie got a chicken caeser salad and I got the meatball pizza. Dave and I also had a beer. This pizza was awesome. Sure is was just meatball but the way they made it was great. After that we walked around some more and headed back to the hotel for the night.
Well this is it. Our last full day. Today we are going to make the most of it. We are going to AK, EPCOT, and MK for EMH. DID WE?
We got up and headed out. We got to AK and Went to get fastpasses for EE. We headed over to Kali River Rapids. I really wanted to get wet. I didn't. Really that's it? David said how wet did you want to be? I said really really wet. I was already hot. Oh well. We headed over to KS and a bit of a wait. We went on or safari and we saw tons of animals. We saw so many babies. I was thrilled

We even saw the female lion standing up between the rocks and the male lion lying down as usual. But I couldn't believe we actually say them both. 109.jpg It was a great trip.
After our safari we saw ITTBAB. While we were walking around, I finally spotted DeVine. Finally... I had never seen her before. She was beautiful. David and Katie liked her too. We headed over to EE and went on that. Again I started hyperventilating. After catching my breath, David said that's it for me. Next time we come I will not be able to do the rollercoasters. What's wrong with me?? I like rollercoasters.
We went to get fastpasses for Dinosaur. While we were waiting for those to ripen David and Katie went on PW. I don't care for this one. While I was sitting waiting for them, I called out "Joyce" . She and I work together. I knew that she was there at the same time as me but it's a big place. What are the odds??? She and I chatted for a while since her family was also on the ride. When they came back, we parted ways and went to Dinosaur. We never did this one before. It was awesome. Really bumpy but great!!!
We decided to call it a day and headed out. We went back to POP and decided to have lunch. Katie got the Shrimp Lo Mein again and David and I got the cheesesteak wraps. I also got the tie dye cheescake. It was good. We had an ADR at Raglan Road tonight so we hung around for a bit and decided to go to DTD and finally buy some stuff. We went to the T-shirt shop. While we were trying to figure out what to put on our shirts, a girl at the machine next us kept saying "Katie" over and over again. When I finally figured out what she was saying I said to Katie "will you say hi to this poor girl?" They go to school together!!! The parents look at me, I actually recognized the father, and said "Yup we live in Worcester, too." We finally agreed on our shirts. I will post a picture with my final thoughts. They are really cool. While we had to wait for them to make them, we headed over to our ADR. I already knew what I was getting and there was no changing my mind. We got seated in Raglan Road and They brought out the bread. The dipping sauce was really good. I ordered the Shepard's Pie. Katie had the Chicken Curry and David orderd the Chicken Breast. The waitress, Brianne, asked him if he was really hungry because this was not a large meal. He said not really. They brought the food and David looked at his and said NO KIDDING!! It ended up being more than enough for him. Our meals were spectacular. We ordered dessert, 2 Dunbrody kisses and I bread pudding. I couldn't eat anymore but had to try the bread pudding. he meal came to $106.68 and we left a 25.00 tip.
I will finish this later today....We have to go grocery shopping.
You had me laughing with today's updates! ToT is my favorite ride and I think being on it with you would have been a riot. I can't believe you are already on your last day.
Oh my goodness, my DH can't stand thrill rides so I have to ride them with our fearless daughter, so I am so worried that I'll do the same thing, Arrgh.
Dawn wonderful updates. You really got a lot packed into your last 2 days. I've never been on ToT or RnR, but would have also gotten a kick out of riding either one of those with you(I love thrill rides & rollercoasters). How lucky you got to see both the Lion & Lioness at thr same time on the Safari. So sad to hear this was your last full day.

Okay I am back!! After dinner, we went back over to pick up our T-shirts. We had the three for us and we also decided to make T-shirts for our devil children...I mean nieces. When we went to pick them up, we looked at the little kids and saw yellow spots on the pink shirt. We asked them to make that one over and they said it would be about 45 minutes. We wanted to go to EPCOT but decided to wait. We never got to go back to EPCOT. We finally got all the shirts and then headed over to MK. MK was open until 3am and that was our goal. We spent a lot of time walking around. There was a big party going on over in tomorrowland. WOW what it loud. We wanted to go on Space Mountain again but the wait time was too long. We did go to COP. Naptime for David and Katie. I love this. I sang through the whole thing. We went over to Fantasyland. They were getting ready for Wishes. David and Katie had yet to ride Dumbo. It is their ride. They got in line and when they go on the ride wishes was starting. They had a cool ride. Wishes was beautiful.241.jpg
After Wishes, we headed over to the Jungle cruise and Pirates of the Carribean. Oh sorry we stopped and Katie and David took another nap first... YUP...Hall of Presidents. LOVED IT!!! THen we went over to JC and PoC. They were fun. We stopped a got a couple of drinks and watched the Main Street Electrical Parade. After that, we sat on the benches after the bridge in frontierland near the castle. We actually sat there for 1/2 hr and watched the castle turn colors. I think we were just tired. David wanted to leave and Katie wanted to go on Peter Pan. We had a 35 minute wait which turned into over an hour because it was having problems. We finally flew over Neverland and then called it a night. It was only 1:30am. We got back to POP around 2am and went to bed.
Saturday we got up and made sure everything was all packed. David had the bright idea to run over to EOS at DTD and get sandwiches to go. Katie and I left at 9:45am. We got there at 10 and ran over to get the sandwiches. In and out and back to the bus stop. Here's where I pulled a nutty. We waited over 45 minutes for a bus back to POP. Check out is at 11:00. I walked over to the van that the lady who was directing the buses was and asked her to send a bus. I needed to get back to my hotel. She put up 1 finger and said in a minute. That was halfway through our wait. I kept giving her the stink eye and finally got a bus. We got back to POP at 10:57am. David was sitting in the lobby with all the bags as he had already checked out. Rough morning he says. He got the stink eye from me too. We went to sit in the food court while we waited to go Magical express. I went to the gift shop...still looking for beaker. I said just one more. I felt like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I peeled back the box and opened the foil looking for that golden ticket.....YOOHOO...I got Beaker!!! Made my day!!!
The attached thumbnails are all the vinylmations we got. Also I have the T-shirt. The picture is sideways...Sorry!! The shirt says: The Kalenoski's 2010 vacation survived and conquered one hot trip.
We caught the Magical Express. I cried on the bus. We got home at 9pm that night glad to be home but sad our trip was over.
Needless to say we are going to Disney again in 2012. We might have 3,4 or 8 people this time. I already have all the days and all the resturants planned out.
David wants to stay in Boardwalk or Yacht and Beach Club. He told me today he wants to stay one night at AKL to wake up with the animals. NO PROBLEM!!!!!! I've already got it all figured out. The notebook has already been started.

First let me tell you a funny story. Wednesday when we went to MK, we were walking over to Tomorrowland and there was a couple arguing. The husband said "well what do you want to do? You have an attitude!!" The wife said "No I don't. I wanted to know what you wanted to do" So he says "we are going to end up doing whatever the bleep you want to do anyway so bleep bleeep!!" I was laughing my head off (not too loud I didn't want them to hear me) So I said to David " WOW that sounds just like US!!!
Okay so with all my planning over the last few years it is now over. We didn't do alot of things that I had planned. We never went through the countries in WS. We didn't do a lot of rides or see a lot of things. Next time I guess.
THE FOOD: We have decided that we will never do Disney again without the food plan. Every meal that we had was phenomenal. We never had a bad thing to say about the food or the service. Well the water incident but who cares. Every resturant we went to was great. All in all without the food plan our meals would have come to $815 and change. It boggles my mind that it was free.
THE HOTEL: We love POP. Always have...always will. David did say that he would like to try something different next time. Everyone at POP was great from the check-in to the maid service. Excellent people. That's why we stay there. It wasn't loud. We never heard anyone ever. We had a great room and were very close to everything.
THE TRANSPORTATION: We rode everything this time. We had a rental car at the beginning of our vacation. We took the buses. We never had an issue with waiting for the buses until that last day. Buses came and we got to the parks or whereever in a small amount of time. We went on boats and monorails. The scenery and views were great. You should try all the different types of transportation. It's fun to get around from place to place.
For those of you who stuck with me through this trip...Thank you for reading and for all the comments.
Like I said the next trip is already pretty much planned out. Only 526 days until I can make all my great meal reservations!!!
So goodbye for now!!! I'll keep you all updated on Katie's cross country progress and all the wonderful things my daughter is up too. After all, I am one proud parent and I like to brag about my kid!!!!!
Great wrap up Dawn. Sorry to hear your trip is over, but how amazing that you have another trip in the works. Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us. It was so nice to read all about your trip.
sounds like you and your family had a magical time at the world
