Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great photos of the decor at T-Rex. Was it as loud in there as people say? I've always steered clear of it for that reason, although the food isn't really my style, either! It looks like the girls absolutely loved it!

Finally caught up! I was laughing out loud at the picture of "the Grimm Reaper"!! That was hysterical! The pictures of T-Rex are great. I am sure my older two would love it, but I have heard there are some really loud noises and not sure my 2 yr old would enjoy it at all. Still trying to decide for our June trip! It is so sad to see a trip report coming to an end. We have all been there and the end of a trip is always the worst part for me!

Love the pics and video at T-Rex! We have wanted to get there but it just hasn't happened yet. We love Rainforest Cafe though! Not the food so much, just the atmosphere. Love the Mickey waffle! Not that I'm partial or anything lol!
T Rex is worth at least one visit, especially if you like Rainforest Cafe, it's a lot of fun!

We have done T-Rex before and enjoyed it - although once we sat in the ice room - and it really was cold in there!
It did look chilly in there, and the lighting was really weird, everything looked fuzzy to me when we walked through to get to the bathroom. I'm sure it would make your food look weird then too.

I know, it's hard to believe it's ending all over again I hope you have fun at TRex, we did!

Oh, yes, it is crazy loud in there, Laurie. I'm sure it would bother some people, but I guess living with two young children has made me pretty immune to loud noises The girls really loved it, they've even requested it again for our next trip!

I'm glad too! It would have been a nightmare to travel home later feeling sick

Have you been to Rainforest Cafe with your 2 year old? It is pretty noisy in TRex, especially when the meteor shower comes by, but it's pretty comparable to the noise level at RC. Also, if you are sitting right near one of the dinos, they make some pretty loud roaring sounds at times.
Oh, I agree, I hate the end of our trips too. I hate waking up on that last morning knowing we have to go home
Now you got me thinking TRex looks cool, and maybe I want to go. My schedule is so wonky with all the stuff I keep adding to my list. I'll just have to go through and plan when the time comes and I know some stuff will get cut.
Anyhoo, sounds like a great morning and afternoon. Glad you woke up feeling better!

That's the bad thing about reading all of these TRs! I see all of these places that look so great in other reports, it makes me want to go and try them. Then my schedule gets all crazy, and it's hard to decide what to keep and what to change If you have time to fit it in, I think you would like T Rex, I'm sure your DD will have lots of fun with it!

Sorry! Didn't mean to make your schedule go all wonky That's the downside to reading all of these TRs, I always want to try everything I see in other reports But, seriousle, I think your DD will have a lot of fun at TRex if you're able to fit it in!
After lunch, we took our time just walking through DTD. We stopped to admire some of the artwork booths, and even found a few that had arts and crafts set up for the children to do, the girls had fun with that.
Abby had to get a picture of the frame she made at one of the booths
We also spent quite a bit of time shopping in World of Disney, I think I could seriously spend days in that store, but that may cause some major damage to my wallet!
The girls both had money left on their gift cards, but they were careful in choosing what they wanted because they wanted to save some money to get some pins at the pin trader shop. They had both admired the lanyard my friend’s daughter was wearing all week, and decided that they wanted to start their own collection too. I wish I had taken some pictures of our purchases, because right now I can’t remember everything we got. I know that Kaeli got a pair of Mickey birthstone earrings to match the pendant she got last year, and I think Abby bought herself a cute playset of Minnie’s house. Chris and I picked up a few souvenirs for ourselves, some refrigerator magnets and new Mickey Ear Family decals for our car, and we picked up a few treats for our neighbor since she and her daughter were taking care of things back home for us while we were gone. As we got to the register I noticed a sign for a special purchase promotion, if you spent a certain amount you could get a starter pin set with lanyard for $18, so we got two for the girls as a surprise.
Up next was Once Upon A Toy, Abby had been talking about the make your own Mr. Potato Head all day. I told her that we were not going to be getting any more pieces, we already had a Rubbermaid bin at home which is overflowing with them. She was fine with that, all she wanted to do was play with the sample pieces anyway.
After that, we stopped in the pin shop, where the girls spent the last of their gift card balances. I think they both got a pin of Mickey holding Duffy, while Abby got a set of Puffles from Club Penguin and Kaeli chose a Haunted Mansion mystery set.
We decided we had done enough shopping for the day, so we headed back towards the boat dock to catch a ride home to POR.
Along the way, we stopped to watch this woman who was doing some chalk drawings
They were all so beautiful!
When we got to the dock, there was a huge line for the boats, but we got in line hoping that it wouldn’t be too long of a wait. A short while later we heard someone asking if anyone in line was going to PO. We were the only ones who raised our hands, and he waved us over to him and brought us on to a boat that was about to leave. Apparently the line we were in was just for the boat that goes from the Marketplace over to the West Side. Thank goodness he said something, because who knows how long we would have waited in that line before we realized we were in the wrong one.
It was a quiet ride back, I think we were all a little sad that we’d be leaving shortly and I got a little misty eyed as we pulled into POR, I hated that we had to say goodbye already. We headed inside to fill our mugs one last time, we also stopped to use up the last of our coins in the pressed penny machines in the lobby. We grabbed our bags from Bell Services and settled in to wait for DME, which was scheduled to pick us up at 6.
Even the Duffys were sad
DME arrived on time, and as the bus pulled in Abby looked up at me with the saddest eyes I have ever seen and said she didn’t want to leave. She had a few tears streaming down her face, that was all I needed to see and soon I was a blubbering mess also. I’m pretty sure everyone on the bus must have thought I was a nut, because here it was dark as could be, and I’m wearing my sunglasses to hide my tears. Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful ride back to the airport, we stopped at several resorts along the way, but we arrived with plenty of time to spare before our flight. We breezed through security and grabbed some food at Burger King for the girls before heading to our gate. While we waited, we saw Kaeli’s friend from school and her family, the same ones that we had seen earlier in the week at Epcot. We chatted with them for a bit, but soon we were called to board, so we wished them a safe flight and said goodbye.
We hit a little turbulence on the way home, and there was an obnoxious guy sitting behind Chris, but other than that the flight was fine. We even landed about 20 minutes early! I took the girls to the baggage carousel, while Chris went to get the car for us. It wasn’t long before we started our drive back to Jersey, we were home and collapsed into bed around 12:30 am. We had an amazing trip, but we were all pooped and ready for some much needed rest.

sounds like an amazing trip. Glad you were feeling better your last day. Thanks for the T-Rex review. I don't think I'll be going there next trip. Evan still doesn't like load noises and isn't into dinos too much. perhaps when he is older.
Love the day at Down Town Disney. Sounds like the girls had fun spending their money.

It isn't just you, honeybee (Melissa) didn't help either. It's always crazy and my list of places to go is about 3x the size of what we are able to actually do.
Especially considering next trip, unless it's free dining, we plan to do OOP and do only 1 sit down per day. With the exception of 1 breakfast, one day.
TRex might end up working bc now I want to go to DisneyQuest. Yeah, thanks!
