As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Melissa, I am so sorry for your loss. Tons od pixies and hugs for you and your family during this difficult time. I am still keeping you in my thoughts. Take all the time you need to grieve as death isn't easy on anyone. That was sweet she told you she loved you. At least she got to meet your beautiful baby girl and see her Great-Granddaughter. Hopefully you have many wonderful memories and photos to cherish her always by.
I'm so sorry Melissa. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Give that little angel of yours a big hug for me and always remember to tell her your favorite stories of your wonderful nanny.
Although I'm new here, I have had the most fun reading your TR so far and I am so very sorry that you lost your nanny!! I am sending special blessing to you and your family and hope that you all get all the support you need right now.
I know I’ve already said it a bunch of times, but I’m going to say it again…thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers. It’s been a tough couple of days, emotionally and mentally, but we all got through it and her funeral ended up being an extremely beautiful remembrance of a beautiful woman. I also wanted to say hello to all of the new pper’s to my trip report that have come out to offer their condolences as well…words can’t begin to explain how nice everyone is around here.
Now though, I think I need a little bit of happiness in my world again, so it’s time to get this trip report started. What better way to take my mind off the grief over losing my grandmother than reliving my shorter-than-I-would-have-liked Disney trip? The only thing that still weighs on my mind is that never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would be at her funeral almost two weeks after we got home. On Saturday, I honestly thought to myself, “I was just at Epcot two weeks ago having a blast. What happened?” But I said happiness right? These are not happy thoughts, and Disney is all about the happiness, so I will get back to the task at hand and not go to the dark side anymore.
A couple of things I learned while on this trip:
1) 3.5 days in the World is not long enough. I mean, a vacation to Disney World is never entirely long enough, but 3.5 days…really??? Once you start getting into the “I’m on vacation” swing of things it’s time to go home. Never again I say…never again.
2) Plans are made to be broken and it’s okay. From one extreme Disney planner to another, it doesn’t feel too bad when it happens, in fact, it’s kind of liberating.
3) Sometimes traveling with other people doesn’t work out the way you would like, but secretly you’re really not the upset about it.
September 23, 2010: Part One
The night before, I set the alarm for 3:30am since we needed to be out of the house by 5am in order to pick my mom up at 5:15am...did you get all of that? Anyway, Chad wasn’t too thrilled that he would be hearing the alarm go off that early, but I told him this would be better for all of those involved so I wouldn’t become that woman (yes, we all know what I mean by THAT woman) running around panicking and most likely cussing, because I didn’t plan enough time to get everything ready.
So the alarm went off, and I actually didn’t have that sleepy-eyed feeling that I would normally get when waking up that early…very surprising for me actually. Chad told me to wake him up after I got out of the shower and I asked him why. All he had to do was throw some clothes on so he could take us to the airport, come home and go back to bed…how much primping time do you really need for that? He told me he wanted to watch some tv before he had to get up. Okay, it’s 3:30 in the morning, what do you honestly think is going to be on tv besides some really bad infomercials??? If it were me I’d be getting some shut eye for as long as I could, but hey, anything to make my DH happy before I was about to leave him for a few days.
I tried to be as quiet as possible because I didn’t want to wake up Hope any earlier than I had to, and apparently I did a really good job because I actually had to wake her up. I felt so bad about doing it too because she made those little fake sobbing sounds to let me know she wasn’t all too happy about it, but I told her it was for a good cause, and she perked up in no time.
We actually walked out of the house on time!!! This is huge for me and I owe it all to setting that alarm a little bit earlier. We got to my parent’s house 5 minutes early and I was surprised to see my father up as well. He said he wanted to be able to say good-bye to his girls since he wasn’t going to the airport this time, and I thought that was very sweet of him.
With everything loaded and all of the good-byes said, we were off to the airport, praying for no traffic on the way there. Normally, I wouldn’t have left so early for a 7:45am departure time, but we were leaving on a weekday, and Baltimore traffic can be a b*t*h…trust me, I drive in it every single day of the week and this was one day I didn’t want to see a single brake light on I-95 during my travels.
We arrived at the airport in no time at all, and now it was time for us to say good-bye to Chad. Normally I’m the one to get teary-eyed when leaving, but I held it together pretty well since I knew we weren’t going to be gone that long. Chad, on the other hand, did not. This time he would not only be away from his wife, but also his baby girl and I think it was a little overwhelming for him. Don’t get me wrong, he didn’t break down into a ball of uncontrollable sobbing, he just got a little misty-eyed, which is a big deal for a man right?
We waved about a gazillion times before we watched him drive off and then we headed into the airport to start the fun process of actually getting to our gate. This was the start of our vacation, and the tummy butterflies were right on cue as we walked up to check-in for our flight.
