The Holi-Canoli! Whirlwind Trip That Wasn't Supposed to Be - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a great way to spend a birthday…albeit not exactly how you planned…but being in Disney on your birthday is pretty special!! Sorry about breakfast and missing out on BB. But your "Alice" looks like quite a trooper.
I remember how hot it was for Halloween. We were at MNSSHP and poor little Jason dressed as Michael from Peter Pan and wearing flannel long sleeved long pants. I didn’t know they Trick-or-treated in DTD. That’s pretty cool. I think my boys would LOVE T-Rex. Maybe next time.
(oh, and I don’t believe you can take a bus from DTD to any of the parks anymore anyway. Too many people were parking at DTD and taking buses to the parks to save on parking)

You know? Now that you mention it, I think you are right. We were going to have to take a bus to a resort and THEN to a park in order to get the gift card. It would have been a pain, but we would have done it. We weren't going to pay $14 just to get the gift card.
I remember reading about Jason during MNSSHP in your TR. It was hot. Unseasonably hot! Geez! Thankfully, it cooled off some later in our trip.
I'm glad Victoria's birthday turned out to be fun in the end. Sorry your breakfast wasn't what you'd hoped for. T-Rex looks interesting and the food looks very good.
Liz
T-Rex was good. I would say try it at least once. We now know to go to 1900 at dinner.

I'm glad Victoria got to wear the costume again. I made it for our trip in September, so she got to wear it twice.

Thanks! She would love to be Alice one day in the parks, but I'm afraid she is too tall now.

It really did end on a high note. We can't complain!

We'll go to 1900 again, just not for breakfast.

Glad you enjoyed dinner and that Victoria got to where her Alice costume again
I'm glad she got to wear it again, too. All my hard work wasn't in vain!

As a commando tourist of WDW, I am not used to sleeping in and hanging out at a resort all day. It is not in my nature. If I’m at Disney, I’m there to tour the parks not hang out at a resort. However, this trip was about Michael and making sure he relaxed before going back to Iraq. So, we slept in and hung out at the resort all day. I fixed a breakfast casserole that morning and fixed a big lunch for us. We just hung out not doing much. It was very nice. I guess we needed to relax because tonight we were going to MNSSHP!! We decided to go the day after Halloween because we figured it would be less crowded. We’ll see if we were right or not.
After relaxing all day long, we got ready for our Halloween party. Victoria decided not to dress as Alice again like she did in September. I wore my ghost shirt since it was clean. I had wanted to wear my Sally shirt, but I didn’t wash it after the rather warm night the night before. Michael DID wash his Jack shirt so he could wear it again. About my candy corn Mickey ears - I bought them when we were here in September, and I am so glad we did. Everywhere I went, people asked me where I got them. I told them at WoD in September. Apparently, they were sold out and couldn’t be found anywhere. I am so glad I had mine. We were all set.
We hopped in the car and drove to the MK. If we hadn’t driven, I never would have gotten a picture of the cute decor over the gate.
The AAA Diamond parking was full since it was around 4 p.m. No biggie. We parked and hopped on the tram just waiting for us.
We decided to take the ferry to MK. It was waiting for us, too. Isn’t this just the prettiest sight?
I was sad that SM was being renovated. Oh well. Next time!
The Contemporary and BLT...
We got off the ferry and easily made it through bag check. We got our party wristbands and got our picture made in front of the train station.
We entered the park and enjoyed the sights down Main Street. We stopped for pictures in front of the castle.
Now, why I only took a picture of Musketeer Donald, I have no idea, but I did. I do like the pumpkin he is holding with Daisy carved in it.
As we walked towards Tomorrowland, we stopped for a picture in front of the castle from the Rose Garden point of view.
This picture cracks me up!
We went to Tomorrowland. Buzz was calling to Michael to help him defeat Zurg.
There was NO line!
Victoria being silly.
Michael ALWAYS beats me on this ride. Perhaps that’s why he likes it so much. He may have beat me, but I made sure I was smiling and looking pretty for the camera.
After Michael defeated Zurg, we went to Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor. Michael had never done this, and I thought he’d really like it.
Poor Victoria, her bangs are already plastered to her forehead. It was hot.
We all three texted jokes in. Michael’s was used in the show. I think it helped that we said he was here from Iraq. His joke was, "Why didn't the skeleton cross the road? Because he didn't have the guts!" Michael enjoyed the show. One day, I hope he’ll get to be “that guy.”
We decided to hang out in Tomorrowland, so we went to Carousel of Progress. I have always loved this ride and always will.
“It’s a great big beautiful tomorrow....”
Michael got this great shot of the full moon over SM. I it!
Victoria wanted some popcorn so she got a box to eat while we rode the TTA. It will always be the WEDway People Mover to me.
It was neat to see the top of the coaster tracks in SM. I wish the boards hadn’t been up and we could have seen more.
After our relaxing ride on TTA, Michael and I went back to ride Buzz. Victoria didn’t want to ride Buzz again, so she went to see Stitch. We don’t really care for the Stitch's Great Escape, but she wanted to do it anyway.
Once again, Michael beat me. I’ll never beat him at this ride.
BG looked like a fun park, especially if you like coasters. And I would have loved some Pumpkin Cheesecake too!!
I’m so sorry you had a bad experience at 1900 PF breakfast. It sounds like the waiter was a big let down. We had a fabulous experience there back in October 2008. And the Mad Hatter is definitely the show stealer here.
That Wicked book is AWESOME!! And the scarves Michael picked for her were so pretty.
Sorry you had to change your plans on Victoria’s birthday, but it sounded as if it ended on a high note.
I noticed Victoria had painted her nails black & orange – too cute!
We're learning the more we go that a day or two of relaxation is actually very beneficial, but it's still not easy (at least for me).
I Michael's photo of SM with the full moon! Postcard Perfect!
I thought his picture was really good, too. He'll take hundreds of pictures and every now and then he'll get one that makes you say, "Wow!" Photography is fun!
