As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I love your system, too. That's a lot of must-do's! I hope there's a lot of overlap with Shana and Pat.
Some people find it a little obsessive, but when you have kids that need plans you have to be obsessive. We do tend to have a lot of overlap and that works really well. Usually, there are only a few rides that only 1 person marks as a 1 and we end up with between 10-20 rides total per park.

It has worked really well for us. I typically am able to throw in some 2's, and even some 3's during a trip. This one may be tougher since we only have 3 days of park tickets. But the kids are much more amenable to walking past a non-1 ride knowing they will do all their absolute favorites.

Our hearts are in FL, but we love that we can drive to CA and I love the feel of being in the "original". If it helps, tell the family it is worth the trip if you have never been. It's a very different atmosphere and we have a ton of fun there.

Alright I finally was able to hogtie Shana and Pat and get their must-do's figured out. I can't believe we are 53 days away and I have so little figured out. Disneyland actually stresses me out because nothing is available early on. The park hours are even out for our dates yet and I had to make our ADR's, and I have no idea if the times are what I want because I don't know when the parks close. It looks like they are releasing a day at a time and I have another 12 days before our first touring day is released. I like the whole 6 months out at WDW because I don't have to stress in the month or so before the trip!
On another note, I booked a flight for my dad. We have some Southwest vouchers from our disaster flights in March and we had no plans to use them before they would expire. My dad stayed at our house during our last trip and it was really nice because he was here all day, where our house sitter comes 4-5 times a day. She also isn't available 4 of the days we needed. So, we are flying my dad in to watch the farm.

We have a total of 19 Attractions at Disneyland and 14 at Disney's California Adventure. This is a few more at Disneyland than I would typically want, but I think with the low crowds and we are going to hit the parks hard on the park days, due to only have 3-day tickets, I think we can make it work. Crowds the days we are there are 2-3's and we are only going on weekdays. I have debated making our non-park day the Friday, because crowds are a bit heavier on Friday, but I can't imagine us not spending our last day in the parks. If we don't get enough done on the first days in each park we can change this.
Also, we did not include any of the nighttime entertainment (fireworks, Fantasmic! or World of Color) in our lists. We all would like to see these, but with our limited time we are going to have to see if we can work them in. I am hoping we can get a theme-park view at the Grand Californian so that we can watch World of Color from the room. The last trip this was huge for us. When I went in 2011 with just me and the kids we went to WoC in the park and it was a mess. We made it through, but the kids didn't feel like they could see well, it was very crowded and even though we enjoyed it, it wasn't something we wanted to do again. In 2012 we got a theme-park view and it was great being able to watch from the room. The angles weren't perfect, but it was better to be able to relax and not have the stress.
Glad you finally got them to take care of business! The lists are long, but I think you're right that going on the weekdays and getting an early start you should be fine. Looks like a lot of fun!

That is a long list, but at least with the low crowds, hopefully you'll be able to do everything.
The Disneyland list has me a little nervous, but I think with the full day at DL and then a day to pick up missed things later in the week, I think we will be okay.

I know, can't figure out why it's so hard to get them to help me plan vacation. They just want to show up and have fun with none of the work. I think we will be good. I use Touring Plans and have found them to work very well for us. I also think since November should be cooler we won't wear out and can easily spend the day in the park with only short breaks.

It does seem like a lot! The 3rd day will help, and we can also split up as needed to get some of the ones that only one person really wanted and kill two birds with one stone.
