Cleaning, purging and feeling overwhelmed!!!!! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. We have an indoor waterpark (H2Oasis) here and it has a "lazy river" that at certain times of the day/week you can use for walking around instead of floating or swimming without competing with a multitude of children (and it costs less than a regular day 'cause they don't have all the slides etc open). You can go either with or against the current for exercise. Plus it's warm and humid.....nice break from cold and dry outside in Alaska in the winter!
It's good low impact exercise that doesn't put a bunch of stress on knees and hips. I don't have too much issue with my hips, but knees are touchy somedays - usually because of the cold but a friend of mine (who I go walking with) has a lot more problems with hers. AND as a bonus.....we get to soak in the hot tub when we have done our 45+ minutes!

Keep in mind our ENTIRE water park would fit into one small section of Blizzard Beach. After we went to BB last time at WDW, my son wasn't sure he could go back to H2O....but it didn't take long for him to be gratful for it!!

So how is the cleaning going?
I started on the kids' rooms this weekend. It's the whole organization and throwing junk on their closet shelves then saying "I can't find this".
Sounds like you're making progress. Better than what I'm doing I can't wait to get some of this stuff out of my house. The next time Amvets/Purple Heart shows up I'm tossing everything out on the porch. The basement is a disaster area I really need to work on it this summer.
Making progress, but it is going to be a very long process!! We managed to go thru two big bags of miscellaneous "Gladware" and Tupperware that DH had removed from the kitchen. As I mentioned, this room just kind of sucks things into it from other parts of the house! We got rid of the majority of it. Only kept the good Tupperware and made sure it was all matched up with lids etc! Went thru a couple more boxes of just stuff and got rid of it too.
Took a couple of boxes to Salvation Army and I already have another one ready to go. Tried to take it to Value Village - but they were being snobbish and didn't want my extra Christmas stuff. Uh, guys, donations are donations, you take what you get.
Got all the Christmas stuff finally down, sorted out and packed up for storage. It is even loaded in the vehicle so that DS and I can take it over to the storage unit tonight.
And all of this got done in between driving out to drop off and pick up DS at Boy Scout camping trip on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, grooming dog, and taking Mom out to lunch and shopping for a good part of Sunday!!!
I had to come back to work to relax!!!!!

Okay - almost all the Christmas stuff is back in storage. DS and I made a trip over last night. Still have a couple of boxes, but they wouldn't fit in the vehicle and I didn't want to make two trips. DS is going to help me with those tonight after water walking. I really need to keep up with that as well. Sure makes me feel better!
DH took garbage to curb last night for pick up today....there was so much I sure hope they take it all!
Got another box for Salvation Army as well as a small end table that we aren't using and haven't used in YEARS....going bye bye! Those are loaded and ready to go.
Box FULL of yarn and knitting supplies is ready to go to storage til room is dealt with. And I am trying to work on projects and get them done and ready for giving away or selling at craft fair come the holidays again! Oh, yeah, and another box of books for storage. Did I mention that I have a LOT of books?!?!?!?!?
We have an older Sauder brand entertainment center in the black hole. Been thinking about it and what to do with it. I am thinking that I might be able to put doors on it and build drawers for a couple of low shelves, paint it all to match and use it as a craft station that can be all closed up so that it looks nice. Just a thought....I am going to need a large piece of furniture for this and might as well use something I already have, right???

EASILY done. DH had a giant entertainment center when we moved in together, that ended up getting fixed up and put in my step daughter's room. Took up the whole wall and it's nice because she can store so much in/on it, There are plenty of shelves, cabinets and drawers so some junk can be tossed in the drawers and hidden while she also has display shelves.
Sounds like you could take a day off from water walking with all the exercise you are getting from lifting and cleaning .

Only go two days a week so I don't want to skip a day for fear of losing my momentum....Of course, the same could be said of the cleaning in the black hole.
The evening water walking is only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They offer it on Mon-Wed-Fri....but at 7:00 in the morning, on the other side of town and I have to get DS off to bus stop by 7:25 and I'm to work by 7:35....so that doesn't work.

Well, dropped off a couple more boxes at storage. Still have the most recent load for Salvation Army, didn't make it over there yesterday. Will have to try to get that stuff gone tonight. Didn't manage a lot of progress last night, but I did do about 30 minutes worth of sorting - have a box of craft stuff/fabric mostly full now (it was about half full when I started last night). Got rid of a couple of boxes - they were empty....why was I keeping these??? Sometimes I pull something out of the room and I wonder what I was thinking when I put it in there.

Okay - didn't get much in the room done last night, but I did have errands to run (had to get cat food or the cats might have started to eye DH, DS and I as dinner ). Plus I dealt with the complete chaos that was created by working on this room! Got the truck loaded up with stuff for Sally Ann's and storage, so I am headed to one of those before and the other after I go water walking tonight. Also, DH's computer genius buddy stopped by and we had a variety of computer cords and such and let him got through them all to see if he needed any of them. Since they are all VERY old and he has like 12 of each kind already, they went in the garbage. Oh, yeah and I had to do laundry or DS might have been acting out a nightmare and going to school naked! And at -2 degrees, that's not a good idea.
All this purging is just so liberating! I am feeling lighter if that makes any sense at all. I just keep imagining the walls coming down and what the place is going to look like and what I can do with all the extra space.....I'm so excited!! I would like to have the room empty by the end of the month, but I'm not sure that will happen...maybe the end of February.
