We're going to WDW! Adventures of a Mom & Toddler the TR! 9/24-9/30/2010 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thank you so much Pam. It was certainly a great trip, besides Skyler's Meltdowns, my mom's complaints about some things, including getting "the look" from me on her complaints or me getting a little irratable and snippy to her, but it was still a trip with so many memories to weigh out the negatives.

Great start so far Becki. Meltdowns are to be expected and sound like you did the right thing. Naps can never hurt and OMG it was hot. Poor Skyler looks so flushed. Great photos so far, can't wait to hear more.
Sounds like a lovely day, despite the one meltdown.

Thank you so much everyone. It was a great first day. I knew meltdowns were to be exppected with him. They always are. I think the heat was certainly getting to him, and it was hot. It felt like 100 + Degrees out our first day. Naps certainly don't hurt anyone, especially when it's hot, your tired, and your body just needs it.
I will try to get another update up hopefully this week. I still am trying to catch up reading everyone else TR's & PTRs that I'm so far behind on. Saturday I will be MIA on the boards, but it is for a good reason. DMIL, Skyler, & are in deed going to see Disney On Ice Toy Story 3! I can't wait to take Skyler to this. We have been in such a Toy Story Mood around here. I appologize if you think we dissappeared Saturday, but the Disney Magic will be enjoyed out here! Cheryl, I know you're going to see Disney On Ice near you too. Hope you have a wonderful time at your show. If we're allowed to bring cameras, I will take pictures and post them in here with my TR!

Thank you so much - I'm really looking forward to it.
Thank you all so much for your patience. I was hoping to get an update up, and hopefully may be able to later tonight, however I have been feeling like an overwhelmed Mad Woman since Tuesday and finding out Skyler only has 13 more Speech Therapy Sessions covered by our insurance company before either we have to stop sessions until January, or have been figuring out if we can bump up his Neurologist Appointment (no such luck thus far, but have requested if there's a cancellation for them to call me to get him in ASAP) and trying to get in with a Neuro Psych for Skyler to get tested for Autism if the Neurologist can't do it. His last session with his Speech Therapist is Nov. 19th and that is also the day of his Neurologist Appointment too. His Speech Therapist informed me Tuesday that she knows that in Maryland that Insurance Companies can extend services to Unlimited but wasn't sure about here in Virginia, which I have been researching today like crazy on the computer. No such luck. I'm also putting my Resume out there and filling out job applications for something, anything, so that hopefully my pay checks can pay OOP expenses for Speech Therapy that insurance won't cover so Skyler can continue to improve the way he has, and not move 10 steps backwards. His therapist is still strongly convinced he has Autism, only the testing will tell us soon.
We have also learned about an Autism Walk happening on none other than my Birthday in Washington, DC, and although it is early in the morning, and would require me to get Skyler out of bed super early, I think it may be the best way to celebrate with him, and show our support for all of the other families out there whom are Affected by Autism the way we believe we are being affected with it with Skyler. I think it might also be a great source of information for us by visiting the booths and finding out anything that may be able to help us with him too. I don't think I have enough time really to raise money for this year's Autism Walk to participate in it, but certainly will for next year, even if it is pushing Skyler in his stroller to do a 3 mile walk with a child I love so much. Anything to show support for something that is affecting our family is worth it to me, and supporting a good cause. I told Erick about that last night, and he even asked me if that was really how I wanted to spend my birthday day (well Erick has to work and there are no other closers to work a Saturday night for him, even with his boss trying to pull a Rabbit out of his hat to try to switch him, but no such luck). It's alright though, I've already pre-celebrated my birthday in WDW, and Erick will be taking a few days off his Part-Time Job when his parents go on their vacation next month. I did nicely tell him a small Donation to support Autism felt more imporant to me than an Alcoholic Beverage or two on my birthday, especially if Skyler does have Autism, we know it's going to a cause to help find a cure for Children & Adults like him. Sorry for my rambling. I will try to get up my next update soon. I haven't forgotten about you all. I just feel like a chicken with my head cut off and overwhelmed with trying to help Skyler right now and not let his Speech Therapy come to a halt.
Becki, I Skylar is over three he should be eligible for services through your local school department. Many have preschool programs for speech and language delayed children and autistic and developmentally delayed children. I would call the school department in your town and tell them you have a child with some delays and would like him evaluated for educational services (these include speech therapsy, OT, and PT).
