We're going to WDW! Adventures of a Mom & Toddler Trip, PTR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great plans! And it's good to see how flexible you are taking a nearly 3 year old to the World.
Thank you so much Cam. I am sad Erick can't come with, but understand he needs to work, and his vacation time has decreased due to the trip we were supposed to take in Nov., and the whole family getting sick a few times. All I am counting on is having a good time with Skyler and sharing my love of Disney with him. As long as that is the case I will be happy.
I may need some help please to being a smile back to a little boys face when I go to Disney(and I am not meaning Skyler). I am scratching the D & B Bag and really want to send a surprise to a close friend of my DSil's adopted son(long story short her friend was murdered by her sister a few days ago). DSil doesn't know whom his favorite character is, and all her friend's son wants is DSil. I know this isn't easy for them. Any help on something small that could help make his day that I can get for him would be greatly
appreciated. Any suggestions at all would be a great help. Thank you.

Cam, I do wish Ericks's set of hands to helpe, but he kept reminding me that while he's working all the time, it is just Skyler & I. I will admit with the new Airport Security Procedure, I don't know what to expect with Skyler since he won't comprehend what the TSA people tell him to do. I am happy he can walk through the metal detector by himself this time instead of me having o carry him. I hope he doesn't give the TSA People any trouble or flight crew(and this coming from a mom who has grown up an airplanes the majority of my life).
Erick did bring up a good point last night though asking me about bath & shower time since he knows my routine at home with Skyler is to wait until someone else is home and hand Skyler off to Erick when he is dome so I can take a bath. He laughed when I said Skyler is getting Strapped in his Stroller for those few minutes with a few toys to play with and in Eye distance. Skyler is an escape artist, knows how to get into everything he's not supposed to, so without an extra set of hands (or worrying he'll drown while I wash my hair sitting in the tub with me) the Stroller is going to have to do.
Sounds like you are going to have ton of fun. Love how you're going to keep him in the stroller while you bathe. I think that's too cute! (But totally understandable with a two year old!)

Thank you! I'm glad someone understands my logic(Erick never got that I used to do the same thing to my brother when I used to babysit him, however it was his walker that would come in there). I just can't help but think Skyler will get out of the room, however I hope the deadbolt lock is too high for his reach, or put his fingers into electrical sockets(ok I guess I need to bring our socket covers from home), or play in the toilet or hit his head somewhere, even try calling people from the hotel phone or my cell phone. You name it, I can picture him doing it. He can get out of a pack and play. At least I'm not doing it to be mean mommy, but just know he is safe for me to get unsweaty after a busy hot Florida day. I know the rooms aren't going to be baby/toddler proofed.
I think at the rate that he's been waking up pretty early in the morning, and actually going to bed early at night, I think we should be able to wait for a bus for the parks early in the morning, unless we wait it out for the morning crowds to die down(which I am perfectly fine waiting). With him this trip I am in no rush, not going commando planning to hit every ride. This will also be a wonderful learning experience foe Skyler to at least start learning patience(I know hard to grasp at 2) and waiting your turn(this may be difficult with the
characters, but he needs to learn some how).
Thank goodness the flight for us is short down there(only 2 hours). Hopefully he will have enough time to burn off some energy in the airport before we need to board the plane since I know he'll be sitting for 3 1/2 hours.
Yeah, two year olds are crazy. My cousin is five now, but I remember his "Terrible Twos." He was into EVERYTHING all the time, and go go going nonstop!

I have to say thank goodness I used to work with Preschoolers and had his age & a now teenage brother to get practice with. Some of the kids I had at the preschool were just like him, strong willed and stubborn. I couldn't picture my sister doing this alone. Her twin boys just turned 1 a few days ago, so I know she has er hands more full than I do. Skyler is still in the "Terrible Twos", but luckily I can handle him and his tantrums. My son sounds like your cousin. Skyler is an absolute handful, but what 2 year old isn't?
Skyler sounds very much like my nephew. If no one is watching, heaven only knows what he will get into.
Yep, that would be Skyler alright. The good news is he is attached to my hip, but I don't want to worry what he will get his little hands on or into. He may be fussy for a few minutes being in his stroller in the room while I take those quick dunks to get shampoo & conditioner out of my hair, but at least I know he won't be getting into trouble. My eyes are never off of him.
I think my mom drew the lucky straw and said he never experienced the terrible twos with my sister or I, however I had a friend jinx me telling me I was going to have a boy who was going to be a terror.
Cam is your Nephew really that bad? Hopefully Stefanie was easy for you at his age.
A few updates, our flights actually changed. JetBlue over booked the flight and offered to switch us to another airline(s) with similar times of our flights. We leave Dulles a little earlier and get to MCO 15 minutes earlier. Our flight back home is going to be leaving almost 2 hours earlier than the Jet Blue flight, but at least it's United and US Air whom I am very familliar with and love both airlines. I hope our last day we can at least get in KS once and take some time looking at the animals, and possibly take him to the Boneyard or Te Affection Station. I just learned of Skyler's love of Petting Zoo type of animals Sunday while we were at the Zoo for their Easter Egg Hunt. I think some running aroun for him either at the Boneyard or ASMv Playground will help before the flight home.
Erick did think the tracking device rental was a good idea for the trip. I remember the price being very reasonable too. I also did remember I bought a 6 pack of Mini Size Gazillion Bubbles for Skyler which I only opened one and have the rest still sealed. I think I am going to pack one bottle in the Diaper bag and the rest in the checked in suitcase. I don't think Skyler will miss them since we have plenty big bottles of bubble solution at home to refill them(gosh I love end of the summer sales on those).
I was thinking of buying a new diaper bag for the trip that can clip on the stroller bars, however I only pack enough pull ups, travel size wipes, enough clothes for Skyler in the parks each day, as well as a pair of pants, poncho and a light jacket in his bag(ok and travel size sunscreen & aloe for us both I should be ok with my current diaper bag. I know they make these giant caribbeaner clips made for attaching shopping bags to the handles, which
should do the trick to attach my diaper bag on the handles. Erick asked me to
hold off buying the Passporter Passpouch and name tag for now, since we
have some waterproof pouches I can have my camera in one and use the
other for my phone, maps, cards, etc. and wear it underneath my shirt.
Actually I think my all in one wristlet and zip I'd pouch could fit in those too
and stay dry.
Erick is probably going to get frusterated I need a new bathing suit or two
since I don't have one anymore. I do plan on taking Skyler swimming in the
pool, and taking to the water play areas to help with the heat. We do have a couple small misting bottles to keep filling up with water and some small neck fans to fit in the diaper bag too.
I just also learned yesterday from another good friend of Erick's and mine a girl we went to college with works at Disney in DHS, so we will more than likely run into Ellyn.
Although I'm not expecting it out of Skyler, I wonder what his reaction to the hotel is going to be, since although ASMv is a Value Resort at Disney, believe it or not, this is going to be the most fancy hotel to him that he has stayed at. He seems pretty mesmorized by the pictures of the hotel. I know we're in a Prefered room, so more than likely we're in Toy Story, 101 Dalmations, or Fantasia. I still haven't heard back from my mom yet if she will be able to join us for a day or not.

Cam is your Nephew really that bad? Hopefully Stefanie was easy for you at his age.
Stefanie was a breeze and still is pretty well behaved. To give you just one example of my nephew's antics. Two summers ago my sister wondered why he made a mad dash to the fridge as soon as he got up. She soon discovered that he had put the cat in the fridge the night before and was checking to see if it was still alive.
Thank you Cam. I am glad to hear Stefanie was such a breeze for you at Skyler's age and still is! I was laughing so hard over your nephew's mischevious behaviour you kindly shared with me. Thank you. He really put the cat in the fridge? Wow, Skyler's not that bad. He does try to pick up the dog, however she is more than twice his weight. He can hold DSil's 4lb. Teacup puppy but does grab him the wrong way. He does however think every telephone, remote control, computer, & set of keys is his.I just hope he'll keep himself fully clothed and his pull up on when we go to Disney. I know my DMil claims Erick & his older brother Mike were the same exact way as Skyler high energy and always up to everything and anything. I just hope Skyler doesn't try riding Trycicles down stairs like Erick claimed he used to do.
I am so sorry in advance if I am about to confuse anyone here about Skyler's & my upcoming trip. Erick booked it for us(well with using my card number not his) in my name while Skyler & I were sleeping. Now I know why Jet Blue had to to change our flights, Erick booked the trip for September, not May. He didn't bother to tell me this until he came home from work yesterday. Arggggh. I told him I had already figured out our park schedules & everything. I guess I am back to planning everything all over again. He does realize the price will be higher since Skyler will be 3 on the trip(he's perfectly ok with that). I think he booked the trip now for when MNSSHP starts, so now we need to add tickets for that. I feel so bad about confusing you all with our travel dates and plans, but at least you won't be confused now when you see Halloween Decorations in our pictures.
He wasn't the least bit upset when I mentioned shopping for a few new pair of shorts, a few new pair of pants, and most certainly a few new bathing suits(he does know I plan to take Skyler swimming plenty this summer) for the trip. He did also honestly tell me he thought September was going to be better since school will be back in Session, and he can have me put aside more money to spend down there since he knows I tend to be a Shopaholic(and really doesn't want me touching my entirely paid off credit cards, which I told him would only be brought for Emergencies and worst case scenarios).
Back to the drawing board for me. He did remember me mentioning how Disney has done Free Dining in September(so maybe we'll luck out with that, but I'm not holding my breath on it) and can possibly get in a Character Meal or 2. All in all I am still excited for the trip even if it is a few more ninja longer to wait(but well worth it). I can't believe how Goofy Erick was to book the trip months further out and make me think we were going next month! At last we're still going to WDW and I get to be back in my home state I miss so much in a short period of time.
Cam, I forgot to tell you I am totally a cat person(only downside is I am highly allergic to all but Persian Himilayan) and actually wanted to get one when I had an apartment to myself(Landlord wouldn't allow it). We had a pregnant stray kitty years ago adopt us since we would feed her, and she would lead a ton of stray cats to our home for food too. We never saw them again after she had her kittens. Erick had a cat years ago too and his younger sister used to love dressing Buttons up in her baby doll clothes and giving her rides in her baby doll stroller.
Since our trip is going to be Skyler's First trip to WDW, and my first trip as a mom, I have realized I have 2 pictures of my very first trip ever to WDW. I was 5 turning 6 two months later. I was there with my mom, dad, younger sister, aunt uncle, & cousin(Stephanie). Here are some pictures of my sister Pam, my cousin Stephanie, & I enjoying our first time ever at WDW (and this was my longest trip there too)
.
I am on the far left, then my sister Pam, and in the red on the far right is my cousin Stephanie.
I'm directly in front of Goofy, my sister Pam is sitting in my dad's lap, my cousin Stephanie is kind of hidden behind my dad and I standing next to Goofy, and my aunt is the one holding her hand.
