Goofy's Lemon Surprise Pre-Trip Report - UPDATED 5/17 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks all for sticking with my Pre-TR!! Your comments are bringing a smile to my face And I'm getting even MORE excited... or simply
It was November 22nd and DBIL called to say he’d be coming over so we could talk Disney. (Yippee!! )
I went about pulling out my notes and materials and prepared some snacks and activities for the kids to do while we talked. I was all set and ready for DBIL and DN to arrive… I even had Disney music playing on the CD player. A little CD I picked up at Cracker Barrel a few days earlier. The knock came at the door and I let my guests in. DBIL and niece arrived with two guests. It was DBIL girlfriend and her son. I thought, well isn’t that nice of them to come. I’m pretty sure now that it was a setup.
I got the kids started with their fun, grabbed an extra juicebox and went to work at the dining room table with my laptop and calculator. It took me a few minutes (yeah I know I’m a little slow) to figure out that the two guests that arrived at my house would also be going with us on our FAMILY vacation. DBIL was surprised at how little it was going to cost so then I had to clarify and it’s then that it was obvious that we’d be a party of 8. Needless to say we crunched the numbers and sent them home with the info they needed to make their decision. At this point I was very nervous about what DH was going to say. I was convinced he was going to blow his top.
We headed for church that night (I figured it best to tell DH after church as it leaves him feeling very peaceful) and then came home for a dinner and family movie night.
It was between the two that I broke the news. It’s one of those things that you do when you tell someone something you know they’re not going to like and then stand back wincing while you wait for their reaction. I think he was in complete shock because there was really no reaction. He just said, “let’s watch the movie”. I was worried.
It wasn’t long before he was on the phone with DBIL asking him to tell her that it was a family vacation and she could go on the next trip. This is definitely something I would have never asked him to do because I think it would be terrible for someone to tell me I couldn’t go to WDW. In fact I'd probably cry
DBIL tried to touch the subject subtly but she was really excited for this trip so we didn’t exclude her. This would also make things much more affordable for him as the two of them would split the cost of the room. I'd like to mention here that I am very excited that they are going with us!!
The next day I booked the vacation package for the rest of our party and changed our ressie to Coronado Springs so that we could be at the same resort as them. We were all booked… let the countdown begin!
Up next: Booking airfare is a scary thing! Gas prices and credits and schedules oh my!!
Okay - your math skills are intact!!
I'm guessing your DH couldn't convince your DBIL that this was a family vacation, huh?? Who knows - you may just have a wonderful time no matter how many are in your party of travelers!!
Can't wait to hear more of your planning!!
(BTW - I know how it feels to cancel a trip when you soooo wanted to go.)

Totally excited!! I still have a bunch to do including introduce you to my party, and work is nuts, but doing this TR is making me very happy.
I don’t know about any of you but, to me when you’re waiting for schedules to post for an airline it seems like forever!!
In reality it was only slightly longer than a month but to me I thought Jet Blue would no longer be flying out of Syracuse. I had a credit from our previously canceled trip and I was nervous about how much more I was going to have to dish out just before Christmas on airfare.
Gas prices had started to come down, but the airline had not posted any schedules since they began to drop so I had no idea what was in store for us.
I was sure that it was going to be really expensive and since I was dealing with a credit, I really couldn’t shop around with other airlines. :
I have to give Jet Blue a little plug here because I love flying with them. It’s a very nice experience and the kids love that they can watch television while in flight.
I was absolutely obsessed with checking the schedules and checked every day twice a day. When the schedule finally posted I closed the window out due to habit. I was so used to it not being there that I hastily closed the window and had to go back in :rolf:
The fares weren’t too bad so I made a quick call to DH and let him know that we’d have to dish out an additional $400 to book our air travel. He promptly told me to do it.
The fares ended up being $204 roundtrip with our return flight being a direct one. I like the thought of a direct flight on the way home because I seem to be tired and it’s nice to just get home without worrying about making connections and such. I called DBIL and asked him if he wanted to book Jet Blue or if he wanted me to shop other airlines and he was 100% sure he wanted to stick with us. I booked the rest of our party on the same flight down and a different return flight as they’d be leaving a couple of days before us. What a relief airfare booked before Christmas! Because airfare can be so unpredictable when it comes to cost, this always makes me feel better about the trip. Airfare definitely makes it feel REAL!
Now if I can just stay this focused on the rest of the planning!
Up next: A real planner doesn’t wait until the last minute to figure this out!
