As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

hang tough, girl...i KNOW what you are going through. are you at least able to get home at night? hopefully they will get the hospital back up and running on power soon. i am surprised they haven't evac'ed you and the pt's to another place with power...guess they don't do that too much up there. anyway, we'll all be waitin for ya in the dole whip line...and it's on me!
Normally they will get the hospitals up and running FIRST!!!.... but they have to rebuild the main power sources to do that. With Rita....all of the main poles leading from the energy plant werer bent over in a fashion that i cant describe...so it took them weeks to get us back running. I remember the heat.....the sweating....the waiting..... (sigh)
Im praying for you guys......we know what its like....if you need anything please contact me....ill try to find a way to get it to you.....im not that far away......
I hope Gustav passes you without any problems or to others outside the hospital.
We can pass on some good sandwiches to you, less the cheese for me. Papa Mouse.

Well it's +3 days since landfall. We have partial power back in the hospital. They tried twice to reconnect to the grid last night, but it seems a switch got good and fried and will have to be replaced. The brought in a BIG generator that can help power the ACs and it is much cooler here tonight.
I did go home yesterday morning and slept pretty good despite the heat. I am going to look for a generator when I get off from work at 7am. The CEO of the company that provides my electric said on the radio this evening that it could be weeks before everyone is back online. They had sooo much damage to the grid, that alot will have to be rebuilt.
I have downloaded my pics and have some to show. Many were taken at the hospital and some while driving home on Tuesday.
As I am out and about later, I will take more pics. I didn't have my camera with me yesterday, and there is horrible damage, this is just the minor stuff.
Please keep all who have suffered in your thoughts.
Thanks,
Beth

Reason: Guidelines
THanks for checking in, and thanks for uploading those photos for us! I'm sorry to hear that there's worse damage than what those pictures showed - but I'm glad your property didn't suffer the bad stuff.
More to you Beth! I know how hot and sticky it has been. We were without power until last night. We didn't have any damage to our house or property but after two days we just couldn't take the heat anymore and ended up buying and window A/C unit for our house. We already have a generator but the small fans were just not keeping us cool. We have lots of damage around here too although I think Baton Rouge got hit harder than we did. The eye passed right over us so you guys had heavier rains and more tornados, etc.
It is miserably hot here in Baton Rouge and the temperatures are rising even more. Our house is fine, but we do not have a generator and there is no estimate on when our electricity will be restored. As of right now they are saying that it could be two to four weeks. To make things worse it is love bug season here and they are getting through the screens into my house. Yuck! Please send pixies that our electricity is restored very soon!
hugs to all of you....as i have been there before and know it isn't fun after the storm until normalcy returns. yep, the damage looked minimal to me, but i know how severe it really was and how lucky we all are that many lives were spared. remembering how unreal it was here after charley reminds me of how lucky we are each year that we don't get hit. y'all up there are in our thoughts down here...let's all meet for dole whips when this is over!!!!!
WHOO HOO, I'm doin' the electricity dance!!!! My power came back on about 8pm, so I am a happy camper. Initially we were told that it would be 2 weeks before the power was returned. There are still thousands without power, mainly because the big transmission lines that carry the power have been crushed, and wil need to be rebuilt.
I purchased a generator today, and will pick it up tomorrow. The hardware store was making an order this morning, and would only order a generator if you paid for it first. He didn't want to order 50 generators and no one buy them, I really can't blame him. Sooo, I will put it in storage for the next time.
The crew that restored power to my neighborhood is from KY, so hats off to those guys!! They have done a tremendous job in unbearable heat and humidity. It's supposed to be in the 90's tomorrow, with sunshine.
So now that the storm has passed and is now playing havoc with the Midwest, we are now dealing with some major flooding. Some areas that were damaged by the storm are now being threatened by rising waters from the Amite and Comite Rivers. Several roads have been closed due to high water already.
(sigh) My heart goes out to these folks who are getting a double whammy.
Tomorrow is going to be a full day. I'm going to clean up the yard, and go searching for ice. We are under a boil water order, so I can't use the ice maker. I have plenty of bottled water, but need ice. My neighbor brought me some today, so I want to return the favor tomorrow.
I will try to post more pics later.
