Run Ria Run –The 5K Weekend Warrior PTR *Updated September 22* - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So as an avid TR reader/writer I wanted to share something I did this week…
I really love my TR's they are great keepsakes and great for planning our upcoming trips. They are all on the computer so I always have to get on the computer to see them…finally I decided to print them out…so I had Kinko’s print out my honeymoon trip report and bound the pages together kind of like a notebook…I love the results…I had it printed in Black and White because all of the original pictures are in my scrapbooks….so here are a couple of pictures of the finished product.

That is a great idea Maria. I might have to do that if I ever get my trip report up and going. I started one last year and I never finished. I know shame on me. I just got to busy reading everyone else's that I let mine get to far behind.

Oh Em Geee.... we are soooo on the same page!
I was thinking of printing mine into a book for Rob for Christmas! You are so awesome! I am so glad it works! yay! Great idea! Us great minds sure do think alike!
What a great idea!! I saved my TR from August 2006, with everyone's responses, onto CD. I'll have to check out how many pages that would be printed! It's such a wonderful keepsake!! for sharing that!!
That is such an awesome idea!!! I LOVE it! I think that is such an awesome gift idea too! Was it very expensive to do???
Turbo dog...they sell it in the grocery store here so i'm sure you can get it in Asheville. I get it at Total Wine here if i'm in the mood.
I"m so excited for you about spoodles especially since you said you like italian food. I had a pasta dish there when i was there last september but in april i had an appetizer because i wasnt all that hungry. The tonga toast at Kona is going to rock but i told my friend that i cannot make a decision there for breakfast because breakfast is my favorite meal and then menu looks so delish i couldnt decide on the tonga toast or this breakfast sampler thing they had.
I just found your PTR. Wow, you are doing so good. I can't believe you quit smoking. Goodness me that is hard to do and training for the 5K. You have got it together. Keep up the good work. I love the idea of the trip report book. What an awesome idea. I am so looking forward to more. Hurry back.
What a fantastic idea! After Thom had a "tr" talk with Eileen last month, he asked me if I had printed any of mine saying that it would be a wonderful keepsake for the girls.
By the way, your meals look absolutely wonderful! Honestly, you will need to have some energy for the 5K so do make sure to carb load!

Did you take the SAT's recently...lol

I know sometimes it gets hard to finish...it took me a year to finish the honeymoon one.

Even Ben thought it was a good idea...even though he did say this brought me to a new level of Disney Geek! I am decorating a manila envelope and adhering to the back of my scrapbooks so I can slip my TR Books inside of it.

My book was very inexpensive (to me) it was around $10.00 for 70 pages and the back and front are made of card stock so they are very durable.
And I may look for Turbo Dog today b/c I am doing my long run today and may need a beer or two after it....lol.

Printing a book for the girls is a great idea....didn't you and Mary Devall do a solo trip? ( i think i remember this TR) How special to be able to capture those memories for her. I am going to print one out for my niece Kaia we brought her to WDW in October and I made a scrapbook for her so this will be another way to remind her that I am the best Aunt ever.

I get so excited when i see another girl enjoys beer like i do. Im not a huge drinker but enjoy the occasional beer especially after a work out...that's crazy huh? i thought it was when i drank one the other day*LOL*i consider it as refueling
Which run are you doing today? i thought about you as i was running up this big hill in our subdivision yesterday and i thought i know i told you that its pretty flat here...i guess you dont realize its hilly until you are running it*LOL*

I am for sure a beer girl...I love it! But I also a frozen drink girl ! and a champagne girl ! and a whiskey girl! lol....oh and a wine girl.
I used to be able to put back a lot of adult beverages but not anymore...I thinks it b/c of the weight loss and different way of eating.
I had two glasses of champagne the other night and I was .
If your a beer girl they do beer tastings at the Ragaln Road...Ben and I did them in May so much fun
The table next to us were doing scotch tastings....
It was Mid-October of 1994 and I was 14. I rolled of bed that morning pulled on my Smashing Pumpkins shirt and went into the kitchen…I begged my mom not to make me go to school that day…WHY? Because today was the day my sadistic P.E. teacher was making the whole class run a mile…wait she tried to make it fun by calling it the Monster Mile a Halloween themed 1 mile run...my mom made me go to school anyway and I was sick to my stomach all day thinking about how in 6th period I was expected to run a mile…me Miss cheetos,cool-aid and save by the bell marathons…was expected to run a whole mile…
The crazy thing was that there were kids at my school who were excited about the run…so 6th period came and I had a total mental break down…I was defeated before I even stepped onto the track…I cried as I walked around the track as slow as Eeyore would…I was sobbing by the end…and my peers and my PE teacher were looking at me like I was crazy…I was.
I always remember that day and I always wanted an opportunity to take back that day and prove to myself and my 7th grade PE teacher that I could do it My 7th grade PE teacher and I really disliked each other …she was into the presidents fitness challenge and I was into the how long can I stay on the couch without getting up challenge.
In 9th grade my 7th grade PE teacher became my Freshman English teacher…I remember the first day we saw each other in the class we both rolled our eyes. In the end she became one of my favorite teachers of all time and I one of her favorite students. She realized that even though I am not an athlete that I love to read, write and the creative process. I was named the Poet Laureate of my freshman class.
Why this trip down memory lane…well because today I am on Week 5 Day 3 of my Couch to 5K training…and does it have me running one mile….nope it has me running 2 miles or 20 minutes straight. I feel like today will be the day I finally put that bad day in 7th grade behind me. After the EE5K I am going to send my teacher a letter with pictures of me completing the race…she will be so happy! Oh I will also send her a poem about the race….
Tune in latter today to see if I complete the Monster Mile ( X’s 2)
Here's to putting that monster to bed!! I'm sure you will be able to do it!! What a great idea to send a photo and poem to your PE teacher. I'm sure she is going to be very proud of you!
