Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Glad you are having some one on one time with your son! Thanks for sharing your pictures! It looks the same, but at the same time very different from Disneyland (CA) and WDW!

I love reading about all of the differences (and seeing a lot of the similarities).

Thank you for taking this trip for us, Karen!

And now we're even - - I have a one-hour flight to WDW and you have a one-hour flight to DLP!

What fond memories of our visit to Disneyland Paris during Halloween - they really know how to celebrate and I wish that WDW did as much as they do!

Re: Mattnkatsmum does Disneyland Paris with Matt but not Kat

Our first port of call was Discoveryland. I don’t know what is wrong with ‘Tomorrowland’ but it has a different name here. Space Mountain Mission 2 was our ride of choice.

Before riding, I decided to get a Fast Pass, so that we could ride later. FPs are different here. You can get as many as you like, so long as it’s not for the same ride. Unfortunately, this means they all run out very quickly.

I have to say that one of the things I didn’t like was that DLP did not feel like the family destination that WDW is. The park seemed to be full of young adults (some of them very rowdy. You’ll get the idea from this photo of the Space Mountain queue.

Space Mountain lived up to my expectations. The coaster is very similar to Rock n Roller Coaster, but it has some really cool special effects, with images of meteors, planets etc, seemingly appearing from nowhere. If I had any criticism it would be that the ride jolted us about a bit, but we still rode another 3 times.

The latest ride at DP is the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast (note the slight change of name). If you’ve read my previous reports, you’ll know that I’m hopelessly bad at Buzz, so I was keen to compare.

As you’re queuing, Buzz explains the plot on his Etch a Sketch.

The ride itself is brilliant. It’s totally different than the MK version. The principle is the same, albeit with improved guns, which vibrate and buzz, when you hit your target, but all the scenes are new. And yes, I’m still lousy.

Next, we headed towards

I wanted to ride Indiana Jones. This ride seemed a bit incongruous to me, as it was basically a small coaster with some very loose theming. It used to go backwards evidently, but at the moment it’s travelling forward. Here are a couple of photos.

Adventureland is where you’d find Frontierland in WDW. A large walk-through area, a bit like Tom Sawyer’s Island, takes up the bulk of Adventureland, except that it’s not surrounded by water. Here’s the DLP take on the Swiss Family Treehouse; La Cabane des Robinsons.

Adventureland is all very nice, but for me is lacking that je ne sais quoi.

We wandered back to Halloweenland for some FPs for BTMRR and then back to Discoveryland where we lined up for 30 minutes for tickets to the Lion King show. Let me explain.

The only live show in DL is The Legend of the Lion King. Only problem is that it’s held in a theatre in Discoveryland (no idea why - definitely out of place) which is nothing like large enough for the number of folks who want to see the show. Throw into the mix the fact that the shows alternate between french and english and you are left with no alternative but to join a long line for a ticket. Not fun. But still we wanted to see the show so we had no option. I chose the 2pm show which would give us enough time for a leisurely lunch.

As we were in Tomorrowland, we couldn’t resist another ride on Buzz and Space Mountain (we had ripe FPs).

Next to Halloweenland.

I’ll post more Halloween photos as my report progresses.

BTMRR was our next ride. This, in my view, is much better than the WDW version, in that it was longer and far more intense. Definitely not a ride for the little ones.

The Haunted Mansion as viewed from the BTMRR.

In fact, almost without exception, the rides are better than their WDW cousins. I suppose they’re newer. (That’s not to say that DLP is better – it’s not. Definitely not)

Now one definite disadvantage about DLP is the food. The counter service options were overpriced and looked horrible. I’d done a bit of research beforehand and decided that for lunch we’d try Walt’s, a table service restaurant which ‘celebrates the life of Walt Disney’. Walt’s is right on Main Street. As we arrived there was a bit of a parade (not the main parade) which involved a number of characters dressed in white sheets, doing something or other. I really have no idea what, as all the commentary was in French

Anyway, lunch was next. Whilst waiting for the table I snapped some photos. I think all the furniture and memorabilia belonged to Walt.

The menus were also full of his personal photos.

We were seated upstairs. The restaurant is lovely. The rooms are divided into separate dining rooms and the feeling is one of intimacy. I can’t really compare it to anywhere at WDW.

This is what we ordered:

Ceasar Salad with Grilled Chicken (Matt)

Antipasti (cured ham, smoked tuna and pepper, marinated artichoke hearts) (me)

Grilled beef sirloin with Bearnaise sauce, mixed vegetables and roast potatoes (Matt)

Walt's gourmet burger with coleslaw and twister potatoes (me)

Sorbet cup pistachio flavoured merinque and raspberry coulis (Matt)

Cinderella's Slipper with a griottine cherry sauce (Me)

And it was all very nice without being amazing. The cost was 29 Euros each (the French are very much into fixed price menus.). We shared a bottle of water which wasn’t expensive. Interestingly, the wine (which I didn’t order) was no more expensive than soda! The whole meal including tip, probably cost $90. Table service is definitely the way to go in DLP.

As a side note, alcohol is permitted in DLP, in fact, it’s encouraged. In the counter service restaurants you can substitute coke for beer for an extra euro!

Coming next: Was the Lion King Show worth the hassle?

Thanks for the great update and pics! We went to DLP about seven years ago and definitely felt it was lacking in Disney "magic" and food was less than desirable. Still, DS and I would like to go back!
