Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I certainly wouldn't miss having McD's anywhere in the world, their food gives me a bad stomachache.
I'm disappointed to read some of the posts that it is just the toys that will be discontinued and not the restaurants.
Americans need to wake up and start eating healthier! There are plenty of healthy choices in DW, thank goodness, for non McD people like me.

I really like their salads and the apple, walnut salad. My mom LOVES their iced tea and there is no where better to get a fountain Coke then at Mickey D's.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

Even the salads at McDonald's are very unhealthy. They did a whole news segment here about how the fruit and walnut salad has the same amount of calories and fat as a whopper.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

a whopper is BK and is 760 calories, 46g of fat.

the McDonald's Fruit & Walnut salad is 310 calories, 13g of fat.

not to defend any of their food as being the healthiest in the world, but let's also be fair. everything in moderation. too much of anything, no matter how 'good' or 'bad' it is for you is a bad thing.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

310 calories and 13g of fat in a SALAD is a lot, and very misleading.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

it depends on what you make of it. if you ate it as a meal, it's practically nothing based on a 2000 calorie per day diet.

the other facts are is that the content is actually very nutritional. googling health sites, this particular salad is actually promoted, one site giving it a B- and listing the only con as too much sugar.

half the caloric intake comes from the candied walnuts incidentally. 140 right there.

what can be said about nuts, really...

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

I am personally sad that they Disney toys are being discontinued.

My VERY picky daughter, at times, will ONLY eat McDonald's food on our trips, so I am actually glad that it is an option at WDW. DH and I typically will not eat there, but the fry stands are good for a snack for Emilie when she won't eat anything else. The way I look at it is just how I look at other places to eat there. If you don't like it, you don't have to eat there. It is your own personal choice of where to eat.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

Exactly, walnuts are really bad when it comes to fat. It's just that some people get a salad thinking they're eating healthy, when in reality the salad is not at all good

And I agree with Sarah, it should be there as an option. People can choose when they do and don't want to eat.

Actually, Walnuts can be very good for you. Scientific evidence suggests that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts, as part of a diet low in saturated fat & cholesterol & not resulting in increased caloric intake may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

As Brad mentioned before, everything in moderation.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

nuts are good. they're not great with the fat, but they're good with protien. there's a reason why they're in the meat group (well, except for peanuts - but let's not go there).

i'm not sure CANDIED nuts are necessarily worth it, however.

and the salad is mostly healthy. unless you happen to think there's something wrong with apples (or just the way mcdonald's uhh... well whatever they do with them).

soda is a prime example of what's not healthy. empty calories. all sugar, no nutritional value.

it just seems to me that your news report had an agenda and was factually incorrect just based on the caloric comparison alone.

'supersize me' also is operated with an agenda and is questionable at best (wondering to myself if the diary was *ever* released). there's a reason why spurlock's production company is called The Con.

the kids who sued mcdonald's because they weighed over 400 lbs? honestly. yes, if you eat it 4 times a week or more (or even close to less that) and don't exercise, you're going to have problems.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

Everyone who eats at least a little bit unhealthy while on vacation, raise your hand!

Most restaurants have a huge selection of unhealthy items and a very small selection of healthy items. It's all about education and moderation. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Americans who either don't get the education when they are young or they choose to ignore it, which is their choice (unfortunately for their children if they have them.)

I will miss the toys. Cars toys should be out soon! I wonder if those will be the last Disney toys at McD's?

Exactly, everything in moderation. A lot of people will eat unhealthy all day, and then think they're making up for it by having a salad. McDonald's is trying to get a more "healthy" image, and people who are on a diet, or want to eat healthy, and don't know any better would go to McDonald's and get the fruit and walnut salad. 350 calories in a SALAD is not at all healthy. It's misleading. And while most nuts are good for your heart, candied walnuts are not included.

Re: No McDonalds at Disney?!

I for one love McD's hamburgers - cheap, easy and yummy - and fountain soda at McD's - nothing like it!
I hope they continue some type of relationship and have Disney Happy Meals - love some of those toys!
And, I have about 10 of the 25th celebration glasses and use them every day. I hope that there is still some deal for that kind of promotion between McD's and Disney.
