Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Thanks for the heads up on the photos! It was my fault. I was on Photobucket yesterday and couldn't find my Epcot photos. I panicked, but then found them and moved them to join the rest of my WDW 2016 photos. I totally forgot that would change the links. I've fixed them all now. Not exactly fun, but I hate to have my photos missing.

Such a nice time the two of you had at Epcot topped off by a great meal at La Hacienda. All your choices looked so good! Even sound better now as I had pork carnitas last night at an eatery, which were very good!

Your day is looking good in Studios with some great attractions and experiencing the Stormtroopers March as well as a lot of time in Launch Bay!

We do love La Hacienda. We did spend a good deal of time in the Launch Bay.

NEXT: A New Twist on an Old Ride

Day 5 – Thursday, May 12, 2016 Part 3

As we exited Star Wars Launch Bay, Luke mentioned that he needed to sit and preferably in the air conditioning. Nearby was the Voyage of the Little Mermaid with no wait as the next show was finally in to the pre-show. In fact, when we got into the pre-show area, it was almost over. Soon we were heading into the theater and selecting our seat. This was the first time in forever that we have made this attraction, usually we just don’t want to wait. Ariel sang as beautifully as always and the show was truly enjoyable.

Afterwards, Luke still felt the need for air conditioning and some seating. So now we headed off to Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. We strolled through the exhibits, managing our time so we’d be at the doors when the next showing of the Alice through the Looking Glass preview trailer began. Once there Luke again had a seat. The trailer was probably about 15 -20 minutes in length, and we assumed it was probably the very first part of the movie. Very interesting! Though I will say, Luke and I have still not seen the movie. We haven’t seen any of the other Alice in Wonderland movies in the theater. We wait until they are on DVD, buy them, and then view them then.

At this point, there really weren’t any other attractions we felt like doing that didn't have long waits. As Stefanie would say, “That’s weird!” DHS is half the park right now, but we did check out the walls surrounding the expansion. We returned to one of my favorite DHS shops, Keystone Clothiers right before dinner, purchasing the gray sweatpants/lounge pants for me that I had seen earlier in the day. These are so comfy, even in the summer when I’m just hanging out at home. Luke asked if I had had time to check out the shops on the opposite side of the street, and I had not. So we wandered through the shops on the other side of Sunset Boulevard where I finally found the collapsible measuring cups that were on my souvenir wish list in the Beverly Sunset shop.

We still had a little time before our evening ADR, so we strolled further down Sunset Boulevard to the restrooms. When I came out, I noticed Luke staring at a building. I caught up to him and he asked if it had always had that scrolling on it. I thought they had and took a photo of it.

Nearby was the DVC kiosk and I liked the sayings painted on the wall here.

With time still to burn and keeping with our theme of sitting in the air conditioning, we traveled over to The Great Movie ride. The standby wait time had finally got down considerably. I was excited to see a new pre-show video as after all our trips we almost had the old one memorized. The ride also now has a new recorded narration blending with the live narration, which in our case was done my Chelsea, one groovy CM. We actually got the cowboy version this trip. Usually we are stuck with the gangster and a poor Chicago accent. I will say our cowboy needed to brush up on his accent, too. Overall, relaxing and fun!

When I got home, I was little bummed that I had not taken more than this one photo of the GMR as I have an awesome border from the border swap to use with this attraction. I'll just have to do better in October.

We had finally filled in the time before dinner at Mama Melrose’s. I’ll apologize even before the dinner descriptions that I did take photos beyond the menu. I must have thought I did because in my notes it says not to forget the photos. Our server, Danielle was very helpful and very bubbly happy. So what did we eat? We took quite a bit of time deciding, mainly because we both thought we’d try something new. In the end, we went with our old standards here. We shared a Caesar salad for our appetizer. Our entrees were quite similar. Mine was the Penne alla Vodka with Chicken, which comes with pancetta and sweet onions finished with a tomato-basil sauce, cream, vodka, and Pecorino Romano. Love it! Luke’s entrée was the Penne alla Vodka with Shrimp, which just like mine came with pancetta and sweet onions finished with a tomato-basil sauce, cream, vodka, and Pecorino Romano. The servings were huge so neither of completely finished our meals, though Luke did much better than I. I also had a glass of Banfi Rosa Regale sparkling wine with my meal.

Summary/Conclusion:
By the time we put our forks down, we were spent for the day, ready for home. I’ve been surprised but I’m actually enjoying spending less time in the parks. We left DHS after dinner, giving me time to do two loads of laundry, type some notes, and watch the Nashville Predators game with Luke. He fell asleep around 10:00.

I mentioned earlier in our review of the room that this was the night that the savanna really came to life. I looked up from the laundry I was sorting to discover a giraffe literally running our way. Of course, I immediately picked up the camera and had a mini photo shoot with my favorites, the giraffes.

Just a point of interest, Luke and I have noticed that in the mornings, at least before noon, Kidani and Jambo have separate buses. Awesome change as so often folks at Jambo House, who were being picked up second, had to stand on the way to the parks. This seems a much more efficient use of resources to benefit the guests in time and comfort.

The Mystery Photo Answer: The Rocketeer and Hair Salon are both on the backside of the building that houses Keystone Clothiers. The Rocketeer memorabilia was behind a drink/snack cart.

NEXT: Meeting a Favorite Artist

Cam,

Do you have a picture of the sweatpants that you bought? I am always looking for practical souvenirs that, if clothing, I will actually wear and get my money's worth out of them! They sound right up my alley!

Those pictures of the animals from your room are amazing. We recently ate at Boma for the first time (loved it!) and spent some time wandering the grounds before dinner. We couldn't believe how many animals there are and how close they actually are to the rooms! Amazing!

I don't have a picture of the lounge pants, but I'm hoping to rectify that tomorrow. I'll post then.

The animals add so much magic to AKL!

Great time in Studios with a nice meal at MMs and some good attractions with the GMR and OMD, which both of these are two of my faves in Studios. Great photos from your Savanna with timing being everything as the animals are on their own schedule and not yours! It certainly makes sense having separate buses for Kidani and Jambo and glad they did this for at least the first part of the day. Just wish the Blizzard Beach stops could be eliminated as it wastes a lot of time, late in the afternoon. even if you've planned well!

I am so jealous you got the cowboy scene. We have yet to get it. Next time I am going to ask. Though I said I would do that and still failed in Hune. One of these days! Your meal sounds very good and you sure got some great animal shots!

Oh my goodness those animal shots - great animal interaction with those giraffes. Was that a youngster or a very small female - couldn't tell. We have member night this week at the Zoo & I am hoping for some great interaction but you never know. S9metimes the best moments are the unplanned ones that literally sneak up on you/when you least expect it. Wish I could have some of these great moments when I am folding laundry; totally hate this household task.

All better. I thought maybe iphone photos weren't visible on my Samsung.

Even without your good camera, the photos are terrific.
