Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm so glad you were able to overcome your not so happy mood that the day started off with, and that you all had a fabulous time at MK! I'm glad that the sun came back out and you did not have to experience rain on the train ride. I would have been laughing with you to see those people getting off of the train in Toontown. Just shows you that people don't listen or often pay attention to what is being said. You were cracking me up with your comment about Lenny coming off of BTM crying b/c he acts like a big baby. LOL still. I loved that Abby was so sweet to offer to hold his hand. How could he say no after getting that offer? I'm so glad he went and that he had a great time. I finally was able to convince by BFF to ride on it. She thought it had big drops like SM. She loved it, and wondered why she had not tried it sooner, so at least Lenny is willing to try it! I loved your camera shots and totally related to your moment of sitting and playing around with the camera setting. I have no clue how all the settings on my camera work and I can't find the book (and I probably don't have the patience to figure it out) to see what the settings should be on, so I just move a few things (but nothing drastic) every once in a while to see if I can get a better shot. I still have not figured out how to get a great fireworks shot. DH does better using his iphone!
Oh, and I am really laughing about you telling him that EE and BTM are not that much different. Ha, Ha (like you said, if you don't count being pulled backwards and the drop they really are the same. LOL).

Thanks Olive. It was a great day at the MK - but we're not done yet. We packed a lot into that day.

My DD has a Canon PowerShot from a couple years back and it is AWESOME! DS #1 has a Nikon D40 that he won't let me play with I think I want something in between the SLR and the little point and shoot, but I can't decide! I'm a Nikon fan for the most part which is what I'll get if I go the SLR route, but if I go point and shoot it will definitely be Canon!
I had an Olympus one that my day won once and I used it a few times and then it died. Myself, I've always like Canon because that's what my Aunt swore by as I was growing up. I still like the Canons but she's switched over to a Nikon that she doesn't want anyone to touch (maybe she and your son should talk ). You probably can't go wrong with either one you go with because I think they're both good names for camera's

It was more fun -especially with Lenny trying BTM. It gave him something new that he tried, just like Abby this trip, and it gives me something to make fun of him about (gee, it took you long enough to try it type teasing )

I'm with you on motion rides, I can't do Mission Space or Tower of Terror. I sometimes have issues with motion simulators, but I've always had issues with 3D. I'll try Star Tours once, but I'm a bit nervous about the combination of the two things. I haven't done Soarin' yet because I figured it would give me issues. Maybe I'll be brave and try this time.

I'm tossing between keeping my Garden Grill reservation and switching to Garden Grove instead. After reading your thoughts on it, it sounds like it might be worth it to keep it at Garden Grill. Hmmm...

I love Abby being brave and offering to hold Lenny's hand. That's how we get Joc to try out new rides. She knows I'm nervous about some that she can ride (ToT for instance), so if it's a new ride I ask her to hold my hand to help me be brave. She forgets to be scared because she's helping me not be!
Thanks. The pink and blue was unintentional. I didn't even realize we had dressed like that until I saw the pictures on my Photopass disc (not even online - when we got the actual disc in the mail ). From what I remember about Star Tours, the 3D wasn't in your face 3D like it sometimes is (KWIM?). I just don't know if that helps you or not. I truthfully think you should try Soarin at least one time. It is such a smooth ride and really unlike anything out there that I think unless even little motions get you, you may not have a problem. I'm not saying you won't - you know what you can and can't handle - but I know for me, the movements are so slight that I don't even notice them.

What's the Garden Grove meal? I know I've heard the name before but I can't really place it. Is it a breakfast one? That's all that comes to mind for it -sorry.

That is too cute - you're daughter is so busy helping you she forgets to be afraid. And it's so funny how a lot of times our kids can get us to do things we might not normally. Abby tried her hardest to get me on Star Tours a second time but that was the one time it wasn't going to work. I didn't want to be sick the rest of the day and my stomach still wasn't a hundred percent from our first ride.

Thanks, I'm so glad that mood dissipated and we had a good day. It stinks when being the last day overshadows the whole thing. I was happy about no rain on the train and those people were just too much. They're lucky I kept my mouth shut because I almost turned around and called them idiots . Men are big babies - whether they admit to it or not. Can I help it if I rub it in a litte ? He got me back later though, I can tell you that. I'm sure more than one of us has been guilty of playing with our cameras and/or losing the owners manuel (when did they stop being called instructions?). If it's any consolation, I can't get good fireworks shots either with my camera, although I play with it almost every 4th of July to see what I can do differently. The way I look at it (yeah, I know I have a weird view on things) BTM and EE really aren't that much different. They're both metal coasters, they're short rides, there aren't a lot of ups and downs, and they're both pretty smooth. Yeah, sound the same to me

Geez, I guess you don't Karen. Between the time I posted my two posts, you came here and posted once and then edited it. It must be killing you having to wait for me to post my next installment all the time

Karen - thanks for that link too. I just checked it out. You can tell it's not a Disney meal. Only 2 characters appear. It's dinner during the week and breakfast only on the weekend. It doesn't accept the KTTW card, the dining plan or Disney gift cards. I don't know for me all the "terms and conditions" seem too restricting to me. And the only way to get there free of charge is to use the Disney transporation because you even have to pay to self park if you drive. IMO that is just absolutely , Valet - yeah okay I can see there being a charge but not self parking.

Actually, the self-parking is validated if you bring your ticket to where you check-in. It seems most folks don't know that, though. We were pretty annoyed with it when we first got there (last December) but Ken asked and found out that they will validate. (Edited to add: This was last December of course, so I can't promise they still do it!)

For me, one of the perks is actually that it isn't a disney run restaurant, because that means when there is free dining, we get the place (and the characters) all to ourselves just about. The food there was pretty darn delicious, if a bit different from a traditional disney buffet. The desserts? Yum. Someone actually asked about it recently, so there's an entire discussion on it here. The biggest advantage is that it, like several of the Swan restaurants, does groupon and/or restaurant.com. If we go this time, we have a practically free $25 certificate we can use for it. (A restaurant I'd bought one for $2 for went out of business and I can transfer it over.) It's really laid back, though, and Joc loved how much one on one time she got with Pluto and Goofy.

Still, we already have reservations for Garden Grill and it is IN Epcot, which makes a pretty big difference.

Wow, I didn't realize all of that. No wonder why you're having a tough decision. I would too. It's not often you can go to a Disney restaurant and have it really quiet. We do at GG because we go for such and early dinner (the first seating at 4 pm). And you have a coupon too. Good luck with your decision - with the info you gave me, I'd probably try to fit in both because I did like the pictures of the dining room that I saw.

Tuesday July 26 Part 4

After we rode the HM, Abby didn’t want to do the river boat at all so can anyone guess where we headed to next ? Did I hear you say Fantasyland? Why on earth would you think that ? What was that? Because Abby loves Fantasyland so much? We can’t be that predictable, can we ?

I guess we must be because that’s exactly where we headed . And if you guessed specifically to IASW, you’re right . Abby loves this ride so much and can’t seem to get enough of it . I was just glad that it was open again this year. The last minute refurbishment from last year made Abby sad and did put a little bit of a damper on the vacation but this year, even with a short vacation, we more than made up for the times we didn’t ride it last year. From Small world we went to a world filled with Pirates and Mermaids and Indians (Peter Pan’s flight in case you couldn’t think of what I was talking about). By this time someone was getting a little bit hungry (could have been me but most likely was Lenny ) and we decided on Cosmic Rays for dinner. I didn’t want to leave Fantasyland and have to come back after dinner so we hit Philharmagic on the way to there. As usual we enjoyed the show but Abby wasn’t quite hungry so she asked for just one more ride before dinner. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be Buzz. Part of me was fine with it but the other part of me didn’t want to walk by CRT ( quick, what did I say it stands for?? Cosmic Rays of Tomorrowland) and then have to come back but off to Buzz we went. Abby and I rode together and whatever she hit, she killed me point wise on this ride (she always does). Lenny did get the highest score out of the three of us but since Abby didn’t know that, she thought she won (well in our car she did). As we left the ride, Lenny told me to get a picture of Abby in jail with Zurg but I didn’t get one. Either Abby just didn’t want to get in there with him and she lied to me or she truly couldn’t fit between the bars this year. I don’t know which but it was no big deal to me to not get the photo. Abby didn’t even mind that we skipped the ride photos this year - and she usually loves getting all of them.

We made our way back to Cosmic Rays and it was really good timing. It was really quiet in there so I was able to go to the chicken counter for Abby without any kind of wait and then after putting that at the table with her and Lenny, I was able to walk right up to the registers at the burger counter for me and Lenny. It’s not often that I ever see this place that quiet. We ate our dinners and when we were just about done, Abby said she wanted to see which Princesses were on Main Street. I told her she had to wait and when we were all done with dinner, if she wanted to head that way, we would. She still did after we cleaned up so we made our way through the crowds starting to gather for the MSEP and got into the Town Theater. The wait was advertised at about 20 minutes but when the CM saw my GAC she said it was a little bit longer and I’d be better off getting a FP to see them. I told Abby that it was going to be a wait and that I was going to run outside and see what times the FP’s were for so maybe we didn’t have to wait so long. She stayed inside with Lenny while I did that and when I got to the machines, the FP’s were for 8:50 (about 45 minutes away at that time). As I was getting those, I talked to the CM standing there. I don’t remember everything we said to each other but I do remember making the comment "I don’t suppose there’s any way I could get them for Mickey and Minnie too, can I?" and the CM responded, "go ahead, you can get them now." That surprised me as I know you normally have to wait awhile for the next one but apparently you can get them for both these M&G’s at the same time. I got a set of FP’s for Mickey and Minnie too figuring I would surprise Abby with them and if she didn’t want to get in line to see them, then they would be a cheap and small souvenir to bring home with us.

Once I got back inside the Town Theater, I told Abby we had about 45 minutes to wait for the FP’s so we could go and do something than come back. She wanted to head back to Tomorrowland and ride the Peoplemover. Had I known how much back and fourth we’d do that night, I probably would have said no, but I didn’t so we headed back through the growing crowds to get to the Peoplemover. When we were done with that, since we were already there, we went on CoP as well since it was still up and running. I was pooped and Lenny asked me if I would stay awake during it and I told him yes, I would. After him pointing out my bad habit to me, I was bound and determined to stay awake during it, even if it killed me . Well it didn’t kill me and I got a couple more flash-free photos out of this trip because I figured using my camera would help to keep me awake during the show.

It did - and so did using my phone. NO, I did not sit there and make phone calls ! I wouldn’t do that. I used my phone to check in online at SWA - something I should have done close to 7 hours earlier . Thankfully I had enough reception to do that and I ended up with B50, B51 and B52 for our boarding passes. I wasn’t thrilled with them but I had no one to blame but myself and I was hoping we’d be able to preboard at MCO without any problems despite what our boarding passes were for.

When we got out of CoP, both our sets of FP’s were ripe so we headed back to Main Street. This time however the parade had already started so Main Street was dark, noisy, and crowded (all 3 of which we normally try to avoid). Before we even got there though, I had Abby wear her headphones and I kept my hands on her shoulders the entire time to rub them hard the way she likes. By the time we got through that and into the Town Theater again, Abby was actually smiling and happy - something she’s normally not at that time of night and after going through that crowd. We went into the line for Mickey and Minnie first and spent a little bit waiting which surprised me considering there was next to no line anywhere for them. We had good interaction with them again and this time when we left, I made sure I had my purse with me .

We went through the gift shop and headed to the Princess FP line which had a lot of people in it. It kind of had me wishing we had done them first before Mickey and Minnie but Abby had fun watching the posters change as we waited. And as we waited, some families got out of line. It seems watching Wishes was more important to them than their FP’s so as they left, we moved up and I’d say a minute or two after all those families left, the FP line moved and we were allowed in the room with the Princesses. Tonight it was completely packed in there. The CM’s in there did everything they could to make sure everything went quickly by reminding everyone to have out their Photopass cards and Autograph books open and ready. That was easy for us. We already had all their autographs and my card was on the lanyard I was wearing around my neck. From start to finish with the Princesses, we were in and out in about 25 minutes even with the FP - and we could have even watched Wishes if we wanted to (although we did miss the very beginning).

All day long, I had been joking to Lenny and Abby that I had no intention of leaving the park early like we usually do . I told them I didn’t want to leave until at least 11 - that they had to see the parks that late at least once. Never in my life did I imagine it would actually happen . After coming out of the Princess M&G, Abby said she wanted to ride Snow White one last time before it was gone and there was no way I was going to say no to that. We made our way, once again, back up Main Street but a lot of people must have left after the MSEP - or they were all crowded in the middle of Main Street - because we were on the sidewalks and it wasn’t nearly as bad navigating as it was during the parade. Once we got down to the corner where the ice cream shop is, we took that right so we could cut through the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant. Here it was a little bit busier with people but halfway between the corner and the restaurant, there was a CM standing there with an exit sign. Part of me wanted to follow it to see where it lead but the other part just smiled at the CM and just kept going. The further away from Main Street we got, the more the crowds thinned out. Once we got in the "heart" of Tomorrowland, it was easy going to Fanstayland and by the time we got there, the fireworks were over. It didn’t take much to imagine the crowds that were headed out of the park at that time - and we were so happy NOT to be a part of them. We rode Snow White for the last time and after we got off, Lenny just looked around. He couldn’t believe how quiet it was there. I told him "this is what I’ve been telling you - it’s totally different at night after people leave . There’s no hustle and bustle and wall to wall people." And as much as I wanted to suggest just one more ride, I didn’t dare press my luck. We were all up early that morning and it was now at least 10:30, it not a little bit later.

I didn’t need to suggest one though, Lenny did . It was from my mind out of his mouth "let’s do one more ride and let some more people clear out of the park. By the time we’re done, it shouldn’t be too bad. What should we ride? " There was only one ride that came to mind that we should end the night on - and it’s the ride that I think we’ve ended every other vacation on except last year - IASW. We headed over to there and just like the rest of the park, it was quiet and it didn’t take too long before we were riding it. Unfortunately while riding it, my mind started wandering to what I needed to do back at the room so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have but it was for Abby after all, not me, and once we got off, we headed to the castle, walked slowly through it (not because we were tired mind you but because all the people in front of us kept stopping short and they spread out so much we couldn’t get by them) and emerged onto Main Street. The mad rush of people was gone and there were I’d say only handfuls of people left (compared to all the people of earlier). Some were staking out spots for the 11 MSEP and others were heading out just like us. It took no time to get to the train station and out the other side but when we got there, the line for the express monorail was all the way down the ramp and it wound around a couple of times. I wasn’t surprised in the least by the line but I think Lenny was . Abby wanted to take the monorail back to the car but there was no way we were getting in that line so we did something I’ve know about for years (but apparently - or maybe I should say Thankfully - not everyone does). We went through the turnstiles and through security and headed to the resort monorail, which had absolutely no line whatsoever. We got right on a monorail and when the CM asked me where we were going, I told him the TTC. Both monorails always stop there and I just cannot see standing in line if there’s no need to. And I don’t care that the other monorail is called the "express monorail." There’s nothing express about it if you have to stand in line 30 plus minutes for it . For us, the resort monorail was the express monorail because we were at the TTC in probably about 10 minutes tops, even with stopping at the Contemporary.

Once we got back to the TTC, Lenny took off ahead of us so he could hopefully get some of the scooter broken down before we got there but he didn’t get much done before we got there. We finally made it back to AS Sports about 11:40 and while Lenny got the scooter out of the car for the last time and got it cleaned up (the car, not the scooter) I hurried Abby off to bed and I really think she was sound asleep in about 5 minutes . For the next hour or so, I cleaned up even more of our stuff and I got everything that could be packed up back in suitcases. Lenny even took a couple out to the car for me. He was grumpy about it though. Something happened to the scooter and instead being able to use it to help get stuff out to the car, he ended up having to push the scooter to the room where it wouldn’t even charge up. So when Lenny came back from taking the suitcases he had out to the car, I told him we could call it a night. I had made a huge dent in what needed to be done between that morning and that night and what little I had left to do could wait until the morning. Although he didn’t make any comment, I know he was happy to call it a night and I think pretty much as soon as our heads hit the pillows, we were out for the night.
