As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your room looks lovely...and the gift basket for Wendy was great! Sorry about the luggage hassle, glad it finally was sorted out and you could make you meal with Sabine and Manuel. Looking foward to your take on Sanaa as we are eating there next month.

We love Fort Wilderness, glad you got to see it during the daytime! Great pictures of your room and your view. That view is awesome! Hopefully your meal gives you a good ending to the day.
Friday 1 May – part six: trying out a new Disney restaurant on night one
We were seated in a booth and quickly noticed that there was a hidden Mickey in the artwork, which was neat. One of the managers that came to see us later in the meal told us that we had one of the special booths. In fact, we had lot of visits from managers throughout our meal, which was good to see, as it shows they’re keen to learn from us and improve their menu.
So how was the food? First off, the menu was very extensive, much more so than the previous night at the Rose and Crown. I was very impressed with it and it was hard to pick what I wanted. Our server, Christopher, who was an absolute star, asked if anyone had any allergies. I said yes and, before I knew it, I had a chef out, going through the menu was me. He told me that he had been in training for this for the last three months and that he had spent time at a lot of Indian restaurants around Orlando. I was really fascinated to hear all about that learning process. It just shows how seriously takes their food.
In the end, I went for the mustard seed crusted scallops in a coconut cream sauce, while Wendy had the salad sampler, with roasted beets, along with carrots, orange and mint and roasted potato, corn and spinach. Manuel has the potato and pea samosa and Sabine had the pulled duck with red curry sauce. We passed the plates around the table, sampling all the dishes, part from me with the duck of course. They were all really good and I was really pleased with my choice, although the samosas and salads were just as good.
For main course, I went for the banana-leaf wrapped sustainable fish with ginger and pickled lime sauce, as did Manuel, while Wendy was very daring and had the tandoori lamb chops. Why was this daring? Because she’d never had lamb until today! Sabine went for the New York strip. Now here it wasn’t quite so good. My fish was absolutely beautiful to start with, but the more I ate of it, the direr it got. The rice was also very dry, something Wendy pointed out. We told one of the managers who came out to see us. It was a shame, as the appetisers were so perfect and my fish had the most beautiful taste to it. Don’t get me wrong, it was still all very good and it’s nice to see such different cuisine arriving on Disney property. We will definitely be coming back here in December and hopefully they will have ironed out the problems with the rice by then. And we will be asking for Christopher as our server again, something I told him, as he was excellent.

The bill for Wendy and I came to $79, which included a glass of very nice Riesling wine for each of us. Not bad for what we got.

During the meal, I got a call from Sue and had to go and find somewhere to get a signal, as there is hardly a cell phone signal in Sanaa. I also got some text messages from Lesley, who was in Kidani Village for the night, so I arranged for her to come down to the table and surprise everyone. It was lovely when she turned up and we were all quickly chatting away. Sadly, Manuel headed back to the room before the end of the meal, as he wasn’t feeling too well.

I have to say I was very jealous of both her and Sabine and Manuel, all of whom were staying there on the first night. How special is that! It was such a treat to be here on the first night and I just hope that at the month mark, we can swap and get in here for December, as it would be lovely to stay here.

I headed back to the table and Sabine invited us to have a look around their one bedroom villa. On the way, we stopped off at the restrooms (we couldn’t pass up the opportunity!) and I was amazed by what I found, so amazed I had to take photos, after Wendy checked that we were alone in there!
Again, this was absolutely lovely and much closer to the lobby than Lesley’s studio. Sabine told us that they were originally allocated a room at the end of the corridor, further out than Lesley’s, and I can see why they asked for another room.

You wouldn't have known that it was Sanaa's first day as everything, except the way too dry rice, went so smoothly! Like they've been practicing or something!
It was a fantastic meal with fantastic company, but I was so, so sad that Manuel wasn't feeling well. Could have made the perfect meal with the bread service, the salads and the scallops. YUM.

OMG Cheryl! I took pictures of the rest rooms at Kidani, too! First time I have ever done that in a resort, but weren't they AMAZING? I feel alot less weird now for doing that!
