Come sail away, Come sail away, Come sail away with me TR Completed 2/8/2012 - Page 28 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great wrap up. I will definitely agree with you on the rooms at AKL. They are small and the storage space is horrible. It was hard trying to organize where to put everything. Plus, the lighting is a factor for me as well. But I'll be back, and I'll deal with it because it really is a lovely resort, and it has such a cozy feel to it.
Great wrap up! I really learned a lot from your TR. I was nervous about taking DS to WDW and it really helped me to read TR's from people who were taking little ones along with them. Sorry your trip was a little stressful at times, but overall it looks like you had a great time. I'm with you in hating having my bags transferred all over the place. I always consider a split stay and never do it because just waiting for my luggage from DME drives me nuts (but it beats lugging it through the airport). And I hated that all before I had DS.
I hope your trip in Sept is magical. How old will the baby be by then? My son was 18 months and I think it might have been easier to take him at 9 months. At 9 months he wasn't as mobile... But even with my little mover our trip was great and I'm sure yours will be too!
Great wrap-up Linny! I think I learn something from every trip and then it changes the next time anyway. I think having little ones it's just what happens.
I will take away that when we do go on a cruise to not expect to do everything. So thanks for that!
I can't wait to hear all about your September trip. I wish it was sooner or ours was later in the month so we could meet though.
Great finish, Linny. It definitely sounds like it was a fabulous trip! I always learn stuff from reading TRs, even after all my trips. Thanks for allowing us to tag along, and don't worry about grammar - your TR was great!! I look forward to reading about your September trip!

Great wrap-up and finish! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful trip with us! I'd sure love to stay at the Grand Poly Beach Lodge... sounds perfect!
Loved reading your TR. We are hoping to take a Disney cruise one of these years. I enjoyed all your pictures. Your kids are precious and you make such a beautiful family

Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Great wrap up! And I totally agree with you on your "what was I thinking" moment, I've had plenty of those while travelling with may girls. We probably all have! Travelling with young children is certainly difficult, no matter how low key you try to keep the trip But, you survived and had a great trip, and gave your kiddos some great memories to treasure. That's all that matters
I wish Disney had a resort called the “Grand Poly Beach Lodge” The location of the Grand, the room sizes of the Poly, a pool like SAB with the views of AKL. I would be all over that joint!!!
This sounds like a place I would be hanging at too!
Great final thoughts. I have been tossin around the idea of a land/sea trip and trying to decide when we should stay for the land part, before or after the cruise. I'm leaning toward the after part cause we drive to FL and even though there is so much to do at WDW I know I could relax and chill the day before the drive back to TX.
Thanks for sharing! If its ok, I may have some questions about cruise related stuff for planning my upcoming Oct cruise. Never cruised before and need all the help I can get.
Great final thoughts! So true about the cruise not always being the relaxing vacation you expect. Especially the first time out.
Looking forward to the next trip!
I have a feeling none of our trips will be so "relaxing" for quite some time. But truth is, I'm OK with that...........for now

Some things you only know in hindsight. It's hard to make people understand just how much there is to do on the DCL ships! I've been on 2 cruises, a total of 18 nights, and haven't begun to do it all. I love your idea of combining the best of all the resorts, but unfortunately we'll never see the room sizes as large as the original resorts again. The Poly rooms are huge, as are the rooms at OKW. The room size at AKL doesn't bother me, but I'm usually the only one in the room! Thanks for writing up this report-- I'm sure it will really help others traveling with small children.
Yeah it all made great sense, In my head
I wish Disney wouldn't skimp on room space, I get why but still a little wiggle room is nice.
Thanks for following along, I do hope someone with small kids learned something from my craziness too!

Gabby was 8 months old, Michael was just 2 plus my 9&10 year olds. Fortunately we were at WDW the entire 10 days and even though we switched resort halfway I still had those same thoughts: what were we thinking??
I can only say one thing about it.......it only get easier. Each trip the kids are a little older and before you know it, you will be traveling easy-breezy style!
We were right on the verge of getting easy-breezy until my sweet prince came into the picture I'm just happy we can do these adventures with them while they are little. Thank you for tagging along!!

Wouldn't that be a sweet hotel right?? Did you change my title to COMPLETED? Thank you so much to you, or whoever did!

Right? Small room AND zippo on storage?? I never unpacked so it didn't bother me but I did look around at the lack of it. Poly rooms and the GF room have spoiled us. I need to adapt

I have thought about a split stay too, but after this trip.....nope, never gonna happen for us.
Andre will be just about 21 months when we go in sept. I thought him being only 9 months on the cruise would have been easy, but he just started crawling a few weeks before we left so he always wanted to be on the floor moving around. We took Josie at 2 and that was when things started to getting easier with her, so I am hoping for that.

Girl, our trips are always so close to each other's. We need to plan ahead because our kids are really almost both the same ages so we need to make this happen one day.

Thank you. We have always been big travelers and when we had kids that was one thing I never wanted to change. Sure, our choices of places to go have, but the experiences I am sharing with my kids...........man, I wouldn't change it for anything.

I always thought about what I would want with the land/sea thing too, and after this............I'm all about the after. They get you off the ship so darn early, you could quite possibly get to a park for rope drop!!
Please, ask away. I would be more than happy to help in any way. PP'ers are really the best!!!

That's why I like your writing style, it's just like we're just chatting, you know? And I don't have any plans to hit the Jersey Shore at the moment. I've got so much going on right now it's kind of scary. But next time I head down to AC, I will let you know.

What a great wrap-up to the trip. Loved your last day at AKL - so love it there and now I am longing to go back (ok 5 months, 2 weks....lol)
Loved the pictures, the kids are just adorable as ever....I can never get enough of a Linny TR filled with wonderful Andre and Josie. Loved the lemon story...my oldest was just like that, gave her a lemon once and that was it. She loves them...even to this day.
It's not over!!
I loved following along with you here. And we were considering a split stay this trip because I really want to get back to the Poly and I can't drag Craig away from the BC. (Ultimately I guess that's my fault for dragging him there in the first place ). But, I would dread the moving around too.
I agree about the room size and with 5 of us the Poly just had so much more room. But again...Craig and the dragging...
LOVE the combo hotel!! I'm stayin' there too!!
Yeah, as you have noticed, I have decision making issues too. Craig bought me a personal license plate when we were dating that said "UDECIDE" becuase that's all I ever said to him.
Hate that it's over, but looking forward to your September trip...unless you bump it to November.
