Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 28 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Love the PTR within a PTR/TR (I'm confused......but love it!)
GREAT ADR choices. Like you, the only one I've eaten in was Marakkesh. (Both times it was Craig's choice...I wonder why ) Your others are on top of my "If-we-ever-get-to-go-again-without-kids" wish list. (Way too many allergies between my boys to truly enjoy). Although, I might switch to BD for lunch this upcoming trip. Hmmmm.
You're confused? Me too! I had to order some extra pockets for my deluxe PP because using the remaining ones in my current spiral edition is not working out to good. Craig's choice huh? Could belly dancers be the reason???

I see you totally dissing me on other PTR/TRs, it's on like Donkey Kong Mister!! Irene has got the entire state freaking out, fyi, last winter schools were closed at the THREAT of snow and when it finally did, SC shut down for three days. I've lived in FL & NJ, now that's severe weather!

I really started some serious hour by hour planning yesterday in order to scope out the resort decorations as well as the parks. EMH only effects me one morning but the day I plan to hit Epcot, um, touring plans says historic levels.

Shhh, but I'm getting a wee bit more excited about Dec than Oct!! So many firsts could be the reason. Plus, something about the holiday spirit makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Try DE more than 3 snowflakes in the air simultaeously and they declare a state of emergency and close the state and I mean they close the state. Think with the earthquake you caused by steelin MY Mustache they are calling out the National Guard
So having 2 PTRs in one is um, confusing. I attempted to squeeze both into one PassPorter but it's not working out very well. I broke down and ordered two sets of pockets for my Deluxe Passporter which I used for my February trip. If you don't own one, I highly recommend it since all the pockets, slots, pen holder, snap closure are an organizational masterpiece. I also have a zip up pouch that fits on the three hole binder that held highlighter, loose odds & ends, etc. So the spiral PP will remain solely for the use of the October trip (I'll cut out the pockets and punch some holes and transfer to the Deluxe binder eventually) and shove the binder in my laptop case for the flight.
Another swell idea from Disney that was announced today is the option to activate AP vouchers at the concierge desk at Disney resorts. I have to call the Dolphin to make sure this can be done there as well since they aren't REALLy a Disney hotel.
I also started the pre packing phase. We all have Disney boxes that stay stocked year 'round and I busted it out on Sunday to do an inventory. I only have one poncho left, must get some more of those invaluable 88 cent lifesavers at Walmart. I also replenished my stash of tums (doubled up for F&WF) and tylenol, shout wipes and a new bottle of hand sanitizer. Made sure I have my gift card wristlet too. Started a shopping list and revised my packing list.
I also purchased a Platypus water bottle at Dick's sporting goods. If you don't have one, you need one. It's a rugged but pliable plastic that is free of harmful stuff with a twist on cap. It folds flat and can be rolled up and thrown in a pocket or bag. When full they stand up and they fit in cup holders. I purchased the liter one for $9. Not only will this be handy at the parks, the main reason I got it was for the airport. It can go through security empty and then filled up at the nearest fountain for free!
I swung by Ross to look for some "elbodans" sundresses. Got me three adorable dresses to add to the three I have and that should be enough for Disney.
My liver is currently in training for the F&WF. I will admit without any shame that in the early years of the festival, I could visit all the booths in one day, go out to PI and enjoy wee hours of the morning cocktails at the pool without affecting the next day. Due to the festival expanding and my advancement in age coupled with the fact I really don't drink much anymore, I have become somewhat of a lightweight. I DO NOT want to repeat last year's 4am stomach revolt again.
In preparation, I have begun drinking again. Don't worry, not like DRINKING but enjoying a glass or two of wine each evening or a beer or two and some cocktails on the weekends. Seriously folks, I work three jobs, the last thing on my mind is having a drink at night but I forgot how much I love wine and a great craft beer. However, lately, if I have more than two glasses of vino I am passed out cold. Two beers makes me loopy. This will not do. Start now, by October I will be able to enjoy the wine without the sleepytime effects.
The other reason I'm enjoying my new refound love of wine is I need to discover a really good boxed wine for my trip(s). I was planning on bringing a few bottles and wrapping in bubble wrap but had an epiphany in the middle of Total Wine. Why not bring a box of wine? Easy to transport and one box = 4 bottles. BooYah!
I was checking out some Dolphin photos on Touring Plans yesterday and spotted real, honest to goodness GLASS wine glasses in the room! Oh Happy Day!
Hope I don't sound like a wino by telling you the above but I really do wish to enjoy responsibly and not pull a Snow White, wander into Canada's gardens and pass out cold next to Sharon's cottage!
I need to get caught up here! I will tell you that DH bought those water bottles. The can also be frozen! We have two in our freezer right now. Yay on the box o' wine. I'm enjoying a Black Box Cab right now (goes great with a Hershey Bar!) I promise to get caught up - just had to jump in.
A great vacation is all about the planning! Some people start a walking program, while some of us begin the "twist and lift" workout to ensure a perfect tour of the F&WF. (Don't forget to cool down afterwards-lots of water, tylenol etc. lol) Keep up the good work.
Whoaaa I literally read all 28 pages this morning ummm while working diligently of course
I had subscribed a while back because we have two days that overlap. While I am dying to meet up with fellow PPers we now travel with a toddler and I would hate to cramp anyone's style either. I have been on the fence about the MNSSHP on October 6th since it's the only day of the party during our trip but we've been leaning towards not going since DD was overtired and had a meltdown and we were leaving before 8pm last year. Sort of felt like we could use the $100+ elsewhere... F&WF perhaps? We have booked very few ADRs for this trip as we LOVE to eat our way around the world. DH is AA so I rarely partake in an fun ABs but I'm seriously going to this trip. I'm not a beer/wine fan and my tolerance for alcohol is non-existent so I'm thinking some fru fru girly frozen beverage while wondering the world showcase may be in order!
We have APs but plan to go by the seat of our pants as well. I've learned being an obsessive planner + having a toddler = frustrations so I plan to have few plans instead, LOL
Very nice to meet you Jennie and I look forward to hearing about all your fabulous trips and plans!
Okay, it's taken me a couple of days of reading, but I'm caught up! I just found your PTR the other day! You've got 2 great trips planned. Both during my favorite times of the year too! I love the freedom of solo trips. And it doesn't seem like you're shy, so you shouldn't have a problem striking up a conversation with people when you want to talk! Your F&WF plans look great. I'm actually glad you decided to skip some of the special seminars. I learned the hard way, there is only so much a person can eat (especially solo). Your plans at the moment look perfect!
As for December, that looks great too! I love visiting the resorts to see the decorations, so I'm glad you made a lot of ADRs at the resorts. My only thing is FW is SO much better in the dark, but I don't think I'd want to give up one of your dinners!
And don't worry, if you pass out next to my little cottage, I'll drag you inside so you're more comfy. Enjoy those "practice" drinks!

Great idea to freeze them! wonder if I can fit it in the small fridge at the Dolphin, perfect for the pool. I always suggest a chocolate dessert for my tables still enjoying specific reds, yummo! I do not keep chocolate in my house, way to dangerous!

I drink a large glass of water every night before bed and keep some on my nightstand. Already packed the tylenol for the trip (JIC). Thank you for the "twist and lift" mantra!

I walked into the sporting goods store and asked if they had them are recieved the oddest look. FYI, I found it in the camping section - not with the water bottles ??? but with the freeze dried rations. Go figure. They are online as well.
at your liver being in training!
Not much training so far, slacking big time. My back is outta whack and the Chirocracker has me on a therapy routine that is making it worse. I'm gonna go kick him in the pants in a half hour.

Toddler or not, we can definitely meet up at some point for a fru fru AB!! Thanks for following! We learned the hard way back in '07 that toddlers do not adhere to strict touring plans. Niece has a meltdown but all it took was a siesta in a hammock on the Poly beach to make everything right as rain again.

Thank you for your hospitality!!
I figured I'd save the seminars for years when I don't travel solo and go for broke this year.
I might have to swing by FW one evening to check out the decorations.

Quite alright, you've been a busy little bee yourself! Take it easy checking things off your list, ease back into it!!
Your PTR plans for Dec look great! Great idea to eat at the resorts so you can explore the decorations! November/December is a great time to visit WDW (next to the F&WF of course).
Gotta love that gift card wrist thing! I am glad I got one on my first F&WF trip. Keeping up with it after a few AB's was easier that way!
