Feelin’ Groovy: A Cam and Luke TR Completed 7/31 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great start to your Hollywood Studios day! That is so cool what they are doing at the end of Rockin Rollercoaster. Lunch looked pretty good too! Love the Pocar Place Photopass photographer. We got some cute pictures in November back there.
I like the personalization that is coming to some of the attractions.

Wouldn't that be so nice! This guard made a task that is not usually fun, so much fun.

This guard had me so happy so definitely a great way to start the day.
Sounds like a fun time at DHS, and both of your meals looked yummy!
I was surprised that in spite of a truncated park we were still finding plenty of fun.

Is the mystery photo from The Backlot Express?
Donald was definitely the best security guard I've ever met at WDW. TSM is my favorite at DHS with ToT right behind. The mystery photo is from Backlot Express.
Sounds like a great day so far at DHS! Lunch looked delicious
We were having quite a bit of fun!

The mystery photos are from inside Backlot Express. In fact, all of these were tucked away in the area where we found a table.
After lunch, we headed to the restrooms not too far from Star Tours. When I came out, Luke pointed to the very small sign that noted Olaf’s meet and greet was this way. We got to see Olaf in winter last October in Disneyland, and now we’d get to see him in summer at Studios. Because the signage for Olaf’s meet and greet was rather small and not prominently placed, we had a very short wait. Truthfully, we had to look for it though we had read before we left home that the meet and greet was open. Luke recently saw that the signs have been enlarged and better placed. But at least on this trip we were lucky.
Oops! Where did Luke go?
I got hugs hello and goodbye both.
Luke's camera
Then we had one more FastPass+ to go, and this one was for Star Tours. So nice that we were already close by. Good timing! Our simulation opened with scenes from The Force Awakens and then zoomed to Jar Jar Binks’ homeland under the ocean. Another fun ride! Afterwards, we took time to check out the mural for the new Star Wars Land.
At this point, we were a little unsure what to do next. Then Luke got the brilliant idea to visit with Mickey and Minnie at their new DHS digs.
Minnie was up first. She is dressed to the nines, and has a compare shoes as soon as I walked up. She also loved my new VB purse, especially since she is front and center on it.
I think she found every single Minnie on my bag.
Mickey was next. We both really liked the new backdrops.
Our meanderings took us next to Muppet Vision 3D, which was as corny and enjoyable as ever. As we left the Muppet theater, I had a restroom emergency. Not good since the restroom in Muppet Court is currently closed for refurbishments. We headed straight back to the restrooms we had used prior to our visit with Olaf. Sometimes caffeine just runs straight through me.
We were a little hot by this point, so as we always do when hot in Florida (or pretty much anywhere), we bought ice cream. We love the soft-serve waffle cones at Dinosaur Gertie’s, both choosing chocolate. Remarkably, we found an empty bench in the shade where we could sit to enjoy our cones. The cones made us thirsty so we walked over to the Hollywood Popcorn truck for ice cold Cokes, except I had mine in a BB8 souvenir mug, my newest hero.
By this point in our day, both us were losing energy and fast. So we decided somewhere indoors with air conditioning. We hadn’t been in Star Wars Launch Bay yet and there was air conditioning there. But as we walked away with our drinks, we noticed a line of folks waiting, though we had no idea what for. We’re pretty bright (or groovy) so it didn’t take long before we realized it was time for the March of the First Order. So naturally, we joined the line, staying behind the tape. Oh my goodness, this was so cool and groovy, at least for two very faithful Star Wars fans. This is going to get its very own scrapbook layout.
Didn't realize it at the time, but I think the Mickey balloons in front of the stormtroopers is pretty groovy.
Stormtroopers are intimidating!
Back on track, we figured even if there was a wait for Chewbacca, we’d at least be in the A/C. The wait time for Chewie was posted at 30 minutes and it may have actually been that long, but I used the time to capture some photos for another Star Wars scrapbook layout. The first part of the Launch Bay is a museum of Star Wars memorabilia, but if you aren’t interested, it is possible to walk on through to the character meet and greets. Museum section photos are up now.
From here we moved in to the standby line for Chewie where I found even more memorabilia.
Luke, on the other hand, began deciphering the Aurebesh message on the wall.
If you want to know what the message says, scroll down to the end after the Mystery Photo.
Chewie was quite happy to see us and was even excited that I had BB8 with me.
We checked out a few more exhibits before we showed our Disney Visa card to be admitted for the special meet and greet, which it turns out is basically a FastPass to Kylo Ren.
Just before we got to the Disney Visa Rewards meet and greet, we noticed the Jawas trading in the hallway. I had come prepared with several possible items to trade. I pulled out a little rubbery snake and a Fortune-telling fish. The first Jawa who walked up to me looked at the items, and then raised up two fingers, indicating that he wanted both items. I responded yes. He checked with the second Jawa and the deal was made. I received a droid body in the trade. Luke tried to get good photos, but this area was dimly lit and the Jawa didn't stay still long.
Kylo Ren gave poor BB8 the stink eye, so the CM there ask that I leave BB8 with my purse. He really is a despicably ungroovy guy.
We were summarily dismissed by the villain himself.
The exhibits continue through the exiting area as well.
Mystery Photos Game: Where are this two photos taken?
This second photo resembles one Luke had seen online, and told me he wanted to find. Bonus question: What movie is this from?
Star Wars message translated into English is "This is some rescue."
Bonus: What Star Wars character says this and in which movie? The moment Luke had deciphered it, I told him who said it and when. I'm a bit of a Hermione.
Wow! Lots of groovy character meets! I'm going to have to study the map and figure out where all these are before September! ...if they are still in the same place in September.
I don't know where either of the mystery photos are, but I do know the second one was from the movie The Rocketeer.
I love your character interaction pictures! What fun! And Kylo is very ungroovy indeed.
Thanks! I had forgotten until I started writing up the posts for this day just how many characters we were able to meet, and every one of them was very interactive.

Have no clue about the photos, but as for the quote, Leia said it in the original Star Wars aka A New Hope.
BTW, curious how Luke was able to "translate" it?
Congrats! You got the quote's speaker and movie correct. That was one of my favorite moments in the first movie or fourth depending on how you look at it. Well, I got him started by saying that I suspected the last letter in the last word was an "e" just based on how words were put together. He think began to think through the letters that were repeated. He had "This is some _es__e." By the time we got to the light sabers display where we noticed that the character names were also written in Aurebesh. Luke has a very logical mind, and loves working out puzzles like this. We didn't even think to check the Internet until we were home, but he was completely right.

The characters this day were great at making the meet fun. You got the bonus on the photo correct! The Rocketeer is one of mine and Luke's favorite movies, but we'd never realized that some of the memorabilia was at Studios.
Wow, talk about a Star Wars packed instalment! The parade looked wonderful and I cannot wait to see the Launch Bay for myself in September, that looks like a lot of fun. I also loved your meets with Olaf and didn't Minnie look stunning in her dress?

Wow, you were able to get some great photos! I loved all of them, especially the Olaf ones and the Mickey/Minnie. How cute that she had to find all the Minnies on your bag!
I finally- for the first time ever-watched the first Star Wars movie last night, so I now know who most of the SW characters are in your photos. My kids had never seen any of the movies either, so I figured we needed to at least see the first movie so we'd have an idea of what was going on when we are DHS later this year. Well, dd and I loved it! She can't wait for the next one. She even said she understood the hoopla-which is high praise coming from her!
Ds wasn't too impressed, but he hung in there until the movie was almost over.

You had some groovy character interactions today. Your BB8 cup is so cute. I must admit I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but my DH is, so I have seen the newest movie and BB8 is my favorite.
Great character meets!!! I can't wait to see the new Mickey and Minnie areas! And super excited to meet Olaf............although I did have a pretty special meeting with him WITH Anna & Elsa on the cruise in April!!!
