As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Because I think I'd be struck by a bolt of lightening the second I said ANYTHING about trip report updates, I'll just say that I can't wait for your report! It was such a delight to see you again; you're an absolute gem!

I think I should be able to order the PhotoPass cd sometime today and I'm almost caught up on things I've already been reading, so hopefully we can get this TR started!!
I had every intention of starting this soon, but now I've left my notes at home. I may be able to tell the story up until we get to the hotel.
Also, a co-worker's daughter was granted a wish by the Dream Factory to go to WDW! They found out last Friday that they leave this Thursday!! They've never been so I've been helping her plan the WDW portion of the trip. On Friday I got them ADRs at Sci-Fi, Akershus, and 1900 Parke Fare breakfast.

Thanks everyone! IT has been fun to plan for her/them. I'm in the process of making her two girls their own autograph books too - have to finish those tonight. I just made them a basic itinerary for each park they'll be visiting (DHS, Epcot, & MK) and put it on index cards.
I'm meeting a former co-worker for lunch Saturday to help her plan her family's trip this year.

I do love to help plan trips to disney too I always thought it would be so much fun to be a disney travel agent! Sounds like you are doing such an awesome job too Have fun and we will be waiting when you have time
The evening before we had to leave something happened where I thought we might have to delay or cancel the trip. Mike & Dylan were off that day, and Mike took Dylan to the doctor for a check-up and everything was fine. I don’t even think he needed shots. I got home about 4:30pm from work and was figuring out what we were going to eat for dinner when I hear this sound. Now if you’re a parent you probably know what this sound sounds like. The next thing I know Dylan has gotten sick. L OK, maybe it’s not so bad, maybe he will be ok now. Nope, happened a few more times. He wasn’t running a fever or anything though so that was good. I called and left a message with his doctor asking what we should do since we were supposed to be on a plane in like 12 hours. Eventually the sickness did stop, Dylan got to sleep, and I finished the last minute packing, and tried to get some sleep. I’m sure you can guess how well that went for me.
He never did get sick again and was perfectly fine the next morning, so on with our plans we went. My Dad was at the house at 5am to take us to the airport for our 7:20am direct flight. And Dylan was a Chatty Cathy at 5am!! You never would have known the kid had gotten sick like 3-4 times the night before.
We made it the airport with no problem and proceeded to check in. I had gotten Dylan & I’s boarding passes the day before, but Mike for some reason has to check in at the airport – stupid common name. I think he did end up with A boarding pass this time though he was well at the end of it and Dylan & I were in the 30s. Our 2 bags were checked and we headed through security.
Now, most of you may or may not know that I’m diabetic and wear an insulin pump. I’ve had the pump for over 3 years now and have flown with it several times with no issue whatsoever. Today was not so lucky. The lady on the other side of the metal detector said ‘you’re going to have to be searched because of that’ and pointed to my pump. Great! Well at least we’re like the only people in the security line. And she wouldn’t let me carry Dylan through either – Mike had to do it. So I go through and then get asked which bags were mine. Of course, stupid me, had to say the backpack with the most stuff in it! I should have lied and said none of them were mine. Anyway, I had to remove my belt, get wanded, patted down including rolling down the top of my jeans, and then have everything in the backpack scrutinized and wiped down with one of those circular bomb detecting pads which are then screened. It was more of an inconvenience than anything. I thank god Dylan was well behaved and this was not one of those times he was yelling ‘Mommy! Mommy!’. Finally I was cleared and we had a short walk to the gate.
Mike grabbed us coffee (Pumpkin Spice Latte for me) and a milk for Dylan at Starbucks while we waited to board. I had a nervous tummy though – probably from Dylan’s sickness the night before, the searching to get through security, and just going to Disney – so I didn’t really get to enjoy that PSL too much. L Dylan played in the area pretty good until it was time to board.
I don’t think we had any issues boarding on the flight out and were soon in our seats. I think we sat in row 14 with Mike at the window, Dylan in the middle, and me in the aisle. The main problem was getting Dylan to buckle the seatbelt for take off and landing. I had to bribe him with mini M&Ms. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do right?! Dylan watched a movie (Toy Story I believe) for a good portion of the flight and even took about a 45 minute nap. Soon it was time to land – so more M&Ms – and then we were on the ground in Orlando!!!
(p.s. Sorry no photos this time. I promise there will be plenty to see as we get into this TR.)
Yay you started. Weird how kids can get so sick and then be fine. Adults... not so much! Glad he got over it so quick and I can imagine how little sleep you got.
At least the flight went well in spite of the pat down. Sorry that happened.

The doc put all of us on a round of tamiflu, and it was a very stressful night, trying to figure out if we should cancel, postpone, etc. DS was fine the next morning and none of us had any symptoms after that. The only worry was getting the liquid Tamiflu, that had to be kept cold with an ice pack, through security. But they gave me no problems with it!
