As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I am not a fan of the new Disney Springs at all. If it was some place else I would think it looks fantastic, but I don't like that at Disney. I no longer have that fun feeling there.
They do have lots of restaurants, and I'm looking forward to trying at least one more on our forthcoming trip. Whether it will be Paddlefish or not remains to be seen - not at this rate!

I agree with you on Disney Springs and especially in regards to the stores. Just the same ones you see in the upscale malls! I have no interest in them at all and plus I'm not a big shopper. I do like the Pleasure Island area with the new eateries and I too miss the Adventurers Club so much as went there several times on each WDW trip!

Wednesday 21 September – part twelve: trying out two new places at Disney Springs
We spotted this, and I’d been eager to try it, so we headed in…
After hearing a WDW Radio podcast about this place, it had been on my long list of places to try at Downtown… sorry, old habits die hard… Disney Springs, as the food they serve here seemed to be pretty good. A whole group of them ordered pretty much the whole menu and I think enjoyed all of it. Oh well, it didn’t make the short list, but at least we could still have a drink here.
We both loved the theming here, and it really reminded us of the Adventurers’ Club.
Mark got a Diet Coke, and this is what I ended up ordering:
We did explain when we got our drinks that we were off to Morimoto Asia for dinner in 20 minutes’ time, and we were told that was no problem, but when we came to ask for the check, our server was nowhere to be seen. We asked someone else, and she said she’d send her over. We waited for ages for her, which was a shame, as she’d been great on taking the orders.
Eventually, we were able to escape (that sounds horrible, but we needed to… ) and make our way over to Morimoto Asia, where Barb, Bob and Heather were waiting for us. I cannot believe it’s been five long years since we last saw Barb and Bob on our first Alaskan cruise. Where does the time go?
We were quickly seated, and I really liked the feel of the place, although now I look back at these photos, I don’t think they do the place justice. I just felt it looked better in real life than in these, if that makes sense?
It took us about half an hour to decide what to eat, as the menu here is ridiculously expansive. There was the main menu, the drinks menu, the sushi menu, and then the special menu for the dining month they’re currently participating in, and some dishes were on more than one menu, but then had different descriptions. It was a bit of a mess actually…
Our server Eric seemed to be great to begin with, but he quickly waned. As Heather pointed out, it took ages for Bob and Mark to get their Diet Cokes, and I don’t recall him checking on us once we got our food to see we were Ok. We were, but that’s not really the point. It was left to other people to bring the food out, and I ended up feeling a bit disengaged with him. He was nice, but I felt he tried very hard towards the end, and by then, it was too late. And then… oh no, I’m getting ahead of myself.
Eventually, we made our decisions on what to eat. Mark and I decided to order some sushi, and Eric asked if we were Ok with it turning up on the same plate, and that didn’t worry us. Mark went for his usual California rolls that he loves, although I was fascinated by the fact that the menu said it was made up of krabstick, avocado and cucumber. Heather explained to us that this spelling indicated it was substitute crabstick, which I never knew. You really do learn something every day.
I fancied the idea of the shrimp tempura, although on the sushi menu, it said it didn’t come with spicy mayo, but on the menu, it said it did. I asked which was correct, and Eric confirmed they could make it without the spicy mayo. Ok, that works for me. It was very tasty, albeit it was quite hard to eat, mainly in terms of getting it in my mouth.
Mark, along with Barb and Heather, had decided to get the magical dining month menu, which was a set three course meal, so he ended up with another appetiser, the assorted dim sum, made up of chicken dumplings, shumai, and shrimp har gao.
I loved the look of your drink at Jock Lindsay's. That is on our list for next time, as is Morimoto Asia, but now I'm not sure about that . I can't tell if you are enjoying your experience there or not. In any case, how fun to see Passporters!!!
That would be my drink of choice too. yum! I've heard mixed reviews of Morimoto's, so I'm curious to see how this meal turns out!

I'm thinking that we're going to try out Jock Lindsay's in January after our dinner at The Boathouse! I don't do well with menus that are too big like Morimoto's as I get overwhelmed trying to decide what to eat. I hope your meal made up for the lack of service from your server.

The sushi looks good at Morimoto. I don't usually like the fake crab, though (but that could just be in my head )

Well, I guess tomorrow's update will show you, but I would certainly give it a go if you like Asian food. Just be prepared for a massive menu with a heck of a lot of choice - and if you go with friends, choosing may take a long time, in between catching up with them.

I don't usually get like that, but my goodness, it's been a long time since I've seen that amount of choice at a restaurant!
