As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Ok big mistake, diet has started here so i had a light lunch. It is now 5pm and i am at my desk for a last hour before i go home for dinner and I'm pretty hungry. So what do i do i go and read your trip report. Sitting here drooling over that onion soup and the seabass. Man I wanna cruise. trying to persuade Graeme that a cruise home from the USA in 2015 would be so much nicer than flying. I think i would have joined Meri and cried when it was time to leave.
Tell him he will NOT be sorry if he cruises home in 2015. It really is well worth it - and honestly it's not very much more cost-wise than a plane ticket, probably. I think he would absolutely love it.
This was the second at-sea day of a 6 day stretch! This morning we were complete and utter slugs. It was fabulous! We got up at around 9:30am. It was so nice to not have to be anywhere! We looked out the window and checked the seas, to find that they were flat and calm!
Mom was up and out by 9:45am, but Meri and I took a little longer! I hopped into the shower, and then Meri and I got into our bathing suits and cover-ups and headed up to Topsiders for breakfast. We joined mom and ate breakfast, which I apparently took no photos of. But, I can tell you that there's a 99.9% chance that I had two danishes, a croissant and coffee, and Meri had fruit, apple juice, a small bite of scrambled eggs, a cinnamon roll and Froot Loops. After breakfast, we headed out to the Mickey pool for a while.
Meri frolicked and had a blast, and amused herself for over an hour there while I sunned and read a book. Then she decided it was time to move to the Goofy pool, so we relocated to some deck chairs in the sun over there. She watched Chicken Little and amused herself with some new friends.
It was a bit windy, so when she wasn't in the pool, she was a bit chilly.
Finally she worked up an appetite somewhere around 1pm. Mom and I talked her into going to Topsiders (I was sick to death of pizza) and so we headed over there again! We went through the buffet (it was the “International Buffet” today) and then found the absolute perfect table, outside against the railing, right at the back of the deck! We had a perfect view, and a very enjoyable lunch!
Yeah I'm fussing at poor mom for some reason or another. I think she had an issue with the camera and zooming, and I was getting annoyed while explaining something. LOL!
My random lunch, lol. I got a little of everything, and it was really good.

After lunch, we headed back to the Goofy pool, where Meri found Timothy.
Lilo and Stitch was playing, so we watched some of that... me from the chair, them from the pool!
They played together for about an hour, and then they decided to go to the Oceaneers Club for the Carnival Extravaganza! I told Meri I’d pick her up around 4:30, and headed off to Cove Café to relax in the shade, and give my skin a little time to recover after so much time in the sun. After about an hour sitting outside the Cove Café, where I typed up some of my TR, I headed inside and down to the fifth floor, where I parked myself on a chair in the atrium, right in front of the beautiful Chihuly centerpiece! I listened to the piano player, and read a book for a while, and just enjoyed the alone time!
At 4:30, I picked Meri up at the club, and we went over to the Oceaneers Club for about 15 minutes, to see Timothy’s roller coaster that he had created on one of the computers. Then we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner, and I snapped a pic of our current location!
Before long, it was time for dinner at Animator's Palate! We knew tonight would be the big show and we were excited to see it!
Dinner was delicious, as always.
My appetizer - Sesame-Flavored Rock Shrimp and Caramelized Onion Cheesecake, with Asian BBQ Sauce and topped with Micro Greens.

The kids had planned to go to the Oceaneers Lab at 7pm to do the Marshmallow Olympics, but by the time we were ready to take them, Mickey still hadn’t shown up for the big show. We kept them with us until 7:15 but they still hadn’t done the show, so finally they nagged us into letting them just go. I tried really hard to get Meri to stay, but unfortunately with all three other kids going, she wanted to go, too. She really missed out on a fun show – especially since Mickey spent so much time directly in front of our table!
Not my favorite photo of me by any stretch, but whatever. Mom and Taner look great, and since there's not that many photos of me in this TR so far, I'll put up what I can, lol!
After dinner, we paused at the room to find this gem...
And then mom and I went to check out the view from deck 4, to see the flat water again. We couldn’t believe the luck we had! Everyone was exclaiming about the water – even the crew and staff!

We went up to deck 10 to watch the sunset, and enjoyed the view from up there. We spoke to one crew member who told us that in 2007, they had a really seasoned captain, and that captain said that it was the worst crossing he’d ever had in his entire life. Apparently it was incredibly rocky and just awful. This, on the other hand, was like going across a lake. It was just beautiful!

After the sun set, I picked up Meri from the club, and we went back to the cabin, where we got settled in bed and watched Journey 2. I know we’ve skipped most of the shows, and our tablemates have told us how great they’ve been… but I’ve just really enjoyed the down time in the cabin. I’ve made it a point to see the big shows, though!
We had to set the clock ahead an hour again. Blech. I hated those nights where we had to do that; Losing an hour was no fun! I think we got to bed around midnight again. That seemed to be our standard bedtime most days... oh well! It worked well for us, as a rule, so I didn't complain much!

Did you ever just watch the show from your cabin on the TV? They show them live (or on other sailings I've been on they did).
No, we didn't even think of that! *doh!* Oh well, next time. We did watch a lot of the talks on tv though when they aired them later on in the trip. That was interesting stuff. Mom loved going to see this one guy who talked about various stuff (lol, detailed, right?) and she was so excited when she met him later in the trip. It was cute!
I'm cranking out two days in a row today, since I sort of fell behind a bit!!

Our third day in a row at sea!!! What a day! We woke up at 10:45am!! Whoa! I didn't expect to sleep that late at all!! Meri had really wanted to do an event at the kids club at 11:00am – Mouseketeer training! Oops! We had to hurry like crazy and we fed her a banana and some leftover Froot Loops before dashing her upstairs. Looking down into the lobby, I saw they were having the daily "toddler time" for kids 3 and under. It looked like a cute gathering.
Then mom and I met for a nice leisurely brunch at Parrot Cay!
Those were my favorite danishes. *sigh* I so miss them. My scale doesn't, though. We had a great chat with a server named Yasmin from Mexico, about working for Disney. It is so nice of the CM’s to take time out of their work to talk with us in such detail about their experiences! We talked to her for probably 10 minutes, and I'm sure she had better things to do, but it was so enjoyable and interesting to speak with her. After brunch, we went back to the room until it was time to get Meri from the club.
The seas were still nice and flat...
At a little after 12, I went and grabbed Meri, because I knew she’d be starving! On the way out of the club, we ran into Belle, who was heading to Flounder's Reef Nursery to read stories to the babies (seriously, could that be any cuter?), and Belle asked Meri if she could walk a bit with her, since we were heading in the same direction... I was seriously charmed, and just trailed behind, grinning like a lunatic as they chatted away.
When we got back to the cabin, I quickly threw in a load of laundry, and for those that don’t know, a load takes 27 minutes, and is $2 (you use your key card)…
Then Meri and I headed up to Deck 9 to get... what else... pizza! First, though, we had to stop and drop off something VERY important...
We were given invitations in our stateroom (apparently only the cabins with girls from 3-12 got them, from what I can gather, though I have no proof - it's just what I could figure out from talking to others throughout the cruise) and we were told to drop our RSVP card in this box outside the gift shop by a certain day in order to be included.
Up on deck 9, we grabbed pizza and saw that Nemo was playing. We didn't stick around to watch much, but Meri did scarf down a slice of pizza there.
Since we were kind of on a time crunch, knowing the laundry would be done soon, we headed back to the cabin where Meri finished her pizza while mom and I watched a talk on pirates by Chuck Richardson. Then I headed over to I put the stuff in the dryer (I found that 45 minutes on high will fully dry a large load of laundry, including multiple pairs of jeans) at 1:00pm. There was initially an issue with the card readers but a crew member fixed them quickly for us! Phew! I knew the dryer would be finishing just as we were hoping to head up to the Promenade Lounge to do pirate crafts together at 2pm… so at the designated time, I sent mom and Meri ahead, and I ran to get the laundry and put it away. I made it up to the lounge by 2:15pm, having put all of the laundry away, and I made a treasure chest along with mom and Meri!
They also gave us paper to draw our own treasure map. This is what Meri came up with!
I loved that she incorporated a Mickey head into her map, lol. And with no suggestion or guidance from any of us!
After the pirate crafts, we stopped in the stateroom briefly to drop off some things, and then Meri and I left mom with her book, and we headed up to the atrium to see which characters were about! It turned out that Captain Jack was going to be in Preludes (outside of the theatre) at 4pm, so we hightailed it up there, and were second in line for that!

It worked out well, because we were able to meet Jack, and then hightail it right back down to the atrium to meet Pirate Minnie!
After that, it was off to meet Pirate Mickey...
...and then Pirate Chip & Dale…
and then Pirate Stitch! While we were in line for Stitch, I had to call mom in the room and beg her to bring up some snacks for Meri – she was positively starving, and we figured we were going to be late for dinner as it was! Mom immediately brought up some peanut butter crackers and fruit roll ups, and a Capri sun, and that calmed the little beast. I should have known better, and packed snacks, but I had forgotten in the flurry to meet the characters. Oops!
This was right after he signed her autograph book, and then dropped it on the floor and kicked it across the atrium! I think he kicked it harder than he meant to, because he kicked it straight into a little girl! The handler was like "STITCH!!!" really loud and he was really abashed about it. It was funny (because the little girl wasn't hurt, just surprised) because you know it was one of those "Oh s***" moments for both the handler AND the character for a second.
Then he pulled her headband off!
Phew! We were exhausted after all of that back and forth-ing!!!
Oh my gosh, I'm in a tizzy getting caught up. So much going on. So the Tea with Alice I am guessing you can't book that until you board? You all look so cute and your dinners look amazing.
I LOVE the walk with Belle and how she is just around to read books, so cute.
So the seas,being so flat and calm???? Guessing that is not the norm. That is the ONLY thing that worries me, slightly......I can handle a day or 2 of rocky seas, but IDK about 6...eek.

I told Arnaud how you would update your FB with pics, I am thinking from your phone? But what did you use for internet service? Do you know who the carrier is?
Great updates! I can't believe how lucky you are with the smooth seas. What a difference that makes! I did a trans-atlantic trip (not on a cruise ship) back in 1968 and it was not only choppy the whole way over, but very chilly until we hit the Mediterranean. No one sat out on deck. I love Meri's pirate map with the hidden Mickey and also the photos of her with Captain Jack.
Finally we had met everyone Meri wanted to meet at the time, and then we hightailed it over to Parrot Cay for our Pirate dinner! We have really lucked out with the rotation, I have to say! Lumiere’s and Animator’s on formal nights and Parrot Cay for Pirate night – it was more than I could have hoped for!
Of course, we all had pirate bandanas waiting for us at our seats... so like good little pirates, we put them on!!!
I'm such a sucker, I bought Meri one of those overpriced, stupid cups, lol. Mom was like, "What, we don't have enough of them?!" It's true, we buy mugs and cups every time we go to Disney...

For dessert I got the Angel Food Cake with strawberries and whipped cream, and it was out of this world good!
Dinner was delicious as always, and our servers were just fabulous – as always. We enjoyed the pirate parade, and the kids had a blast following the servers around!
After the parade, Suzanne took the kids up to the Oceaneers Club to go to “So You Want To Be A Pirate?” while we adults enjoyed the rest of our coffee and dessert, and then we took some photos with the servers at the end of the meal.
After dinner, mom and I headed down to the room to grab my laptop, and saw this little guy...

We went up to the Cove Café to check email and read, and I uploaded a few photos to Facebook. At around 8:45 I dropped off my laptop and headed to pick up Meri. Then we went up to the Goofy Pool to scout out the party set-up and get an idea for where we wanted to be. Of course, this early it was empty, which was nice. Meri had a little bag that she got at WDW's Pirate and Princess Party when she was 2 years old... I had saved it, and we had bought some gold coins in a bag from the dollar store, and Meri gave them out tonight to any kid she saw, lol, telling them it was Pirate treasure!

Then the entertainment crew came out, and Meri, of course, hung out with them for a while

As more and more people filled in, I chose my spot along the railing on deck 10. It turned out to be a perfect spot. Mom joined me at around 9:30, and we watched Meri participate in the pirate challenges...

We were beside a little storage thingy (or whatever it was), deliberately so I knew we wouldn't get crunched on one side, and so Meri would have a place to sit eventually with a good view. For now, though, she sat huddled on the ground, hiding from the wind.

And then Mickey came to save the day!
Then it was time for the fireworks at sea! I have to say this seriously was one of the coolest things ever.
We had a perfect view of the stage and a perfect view of Mickey doing his zip line stunt, and then a perfect view of the fireworks! It was all just perfect! LOL! After the fireworks was the buffet – and I will say, while the buffet was “ok”, it was way too backed up. They only had the one side open, so the line was insanely long. We were in the first wave, so we managed to get in and get seats fairly quickly (in about 15 minutes), but when we left, after about 25 minutes, the line was still long out the door. I’m sure they know what they’re doing, but honestly the buffet wasn’t good enough to warrant a wait that long in my little opinion.

The buffet had tacos, fruits, crepes, turkey legs, potatoes and corn bread. Don’t mistake me, it was good, but it just wasn’t the wow factor that I had expected. I'm not sure what I expected, exactly... I just remember that I felt like it was just eh. Ah well. We still enjoyed it, and then headed back down to the room.

Then I got her cleaned up, and settled in bed, and she was out like a light the second her head hit the pillow. Mom read, and I checked email quickly, and uploaded a couple of more photos to Facebook before crashing myself.

I can't believe how empty the pool deck is in those last pics. Where is everyone? At dinner?
The pool deck was frequently empty after the early dinner seating. I guess the early seating people were at the show and the late seating people were at dinner, and everyone else was in their cabins or maybe a bar? LOL!

Ok let's see... yes, you can't book tea til you board. Read your entire first navigator front to back the second they give it to you, so you can see if there's anything special that you have to book immediately when you board. Then when you board, go to guest services first thing, and book whatever it is (if anything), so you can be guaranteed a spot.
The seas... it's hit or miss. Bring either a sea-sickness patch or dramamine / bonine (for adults AND the kids version) just in case.
I bought an (overpriced) internet package from Disney on board. Actually, I bought two. I spent about $200 on wifi for roughly 600 minutes. *sigh* It's satellite wifi, so it's hit or miss. Sometimes when I was in my cabin I had to sit by the door with my laptop to get any signal at all worth having... I got the best signal really really late at night (probably because no one was on it) and when I was out on the pool deck.

The smooth seas made a huge difference. And, we had good weather, too. Even when it was "only" 68, it was really pleasant on deck by the Mickey and Goofy pools (can't speak to the Cove pool because I rarely hung out on that deck) because the wind was blocked in the middle and aft of the ship by the funnels and screen and such.
Meri was SO excited to meet Captain Jack! I was, too. LOL!
Meri makes an adorable pirate! We always have late dinner seating so I've never eaten at the buffet!
Thanks, she wore the costume again this past weekend. Funny kid. Ran around in the shirt with a tutu and blue polka dot leggings. Her sense of style is unique, to say the least!

The pirate party is really charming, and worth a viewing if you can stick it out. Mom didn't want to go but I made her, and she was glad she did. I think you could easily skip the buffet though - just my ten cents!
What a wonderful couple of days at sea! I still can't get over how calm it was for you.

We went up to deck 10 to watch the sunset, and enjoyed the view from up there. We spoke to one crew member who told us that in 2007, they had a really seasoned captain, and that captain said that it was the worst crossing he’d ever had in his entire life. Apparently it was incredibly rocky and just awful. This, on the other hand, was like going across a lake. It was just beautiful!
That's the one I was telling you about when we met - we were on the first ever Med cruise, directly after the repositioning and quite a few guests did the repositioning, then stayed on board for the Med cruise and everyone talked about how appalling the weather was. That's what put me off a Transatlantic cruise.
However, I did have a look at the itineraries and I have to say if, in the future, they came up with one like the Westbound next year that goes back to San Juan, I'd be interested in that, as that's a great itinerary. Obviously it would have to be Eastbound, as the main attraction is not dealing with the crippling jet lag coming home, but I just love that one - stops at St. Kitts, St. Maarten and Antigua before the crossing (I'm dreaming it's going Eastbound now!) - now you're talking my language.
Love all the characters in their pirate outfits. Did you space out handing out your goodies in the FE's. You showed us the glasses , I'm just curious about what other goodies you received.

We had a great chat with a server named Yasmin from Mexico, about working for Disney. It is so nice of the CM’s to take time out of their work to talk with us in such detail about their experiences! We talked to her for probably 10 minutes, and I'm sure she had better things to do, but it was so enjoyable and interesting to speak with her. After brunch, we went back to the room until it was time to get Meri from the club.
