Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Good thinking to take a cab to dinner. It's easy to forget about this option, but it does save so much time and effore going from resort to resort. Dinner looks like a success and you again covered a lot of ground. Hard to believe this is the same day as the one where you started out planning on a water park!
It does feel like it was a different day, doesn't it? You know, during our trip I felt that our days were pretty relaxed instead of go, go, go. Looking back at it now to write this, I can't believe how much we got accomplished each day without completely exhausting ourselves!

hmmmm..............I am thinking there is going to be a Soarin' rehab in the near future - that happened while we were there too - and the screen really is starting to look pretty rough
Ha! I was wondering if someone was going to notice that Duffy photo bomb
I'm thinking a rehab is in order for Soarin soon, too. I won't be surprised if that ones put on the list for next winter!

Looks like you got lots of stuff done and got some cute pics too.
I think it says a lot that two people from NE enjoyed the CMC We definitely enjoyed it, and I didn't think the price was too bad considering it was all you could eat. The guy next to us definitely took advantage of that! He came back to the table with two or three plates just overflowing with crab, sat down and told his family not to bother him for the next 20 - 30 minutes They listened, and he sat there chowing down!

I'm glad that we ate at a lot of the same places you'll be in June! You'll enjoy the CMC, just pace yourselves so you don't get too full to soon

We really did enjoy CMC, and I was so glad after reading some poor reviews about it before our trip! We had excellent service as well, from both our server and the chef. The chef was excited that she could prepare a delicious dessert for Kaeli from treats they got from Babycakes. I think they were donuts that she crumbled up and made into a huge parfait with whipped cream and chocolate sauce I love it when the chefs go out of their way to make Kaeli feel special, rather than she's missing out because of her allergy

All caught up! I love exploring Riverside since it has so many cool little things to do around it. I've never done the fishing hole, but it sounds like I wouldn't have caught anything anyway.
You dinner looked delicious! And I've seen people getting those extra shots in their GG slush before, but what's already in it is plenty good for me.

Good tip about CMC. Good thing we're not in a hurry! It sounds like something we'll really enjoy. My youngest is allergic to shellfish, but at least there are a lot of options. He's only mildly allergic though, so it's not the end of the world if he eats a little.

It was a fun thing to do, but you're right, you probably won't catch anything at the fishing hole. I seriously wonder if there are any actual fish in that river, we never once saw anything down in that water!

I agree, FW does seem less crowded at night. Even more so this time, most of the people were back in the WS for the F&WF.

Oh, there will be plenty for him to eat! And, if he's not happy with the choices on the buffet, I'm sure the chef could whip him up something special, they were very accommodating.
The original plan for today was to head to DHS before meeting up with our friends for dinner at Epcot that evening. Well, we decided to scratch DHS in hopes of getting to BB today, since it was closed yesterday. Sadly, the weather was about the same as it was on Wed, so they were closed again today. We decided to just head to DTD and Disney Quest instead, we wanted to at least get some use out of the WP&M option we had added on to our tickets.
So, we had another slow morning in our room, finally heading out to the boat dock around 10:30 am.
Abby had to rest in the hammock along the way, and of course the Duffys did too
There was a decent amount of people waiting for the boat, but we didn’t have to wait too long at all. Within a few minutes a boat pulled up and we started to load. In case you don’t know, even though there is room for many more, the boats only load 24 people from each stop, making sure that they will have room to pick up more guests at the rest of the stops along the way. Well, after we boarded, there was a family of 7 behind us, but only room for 5 more guests on board. They were rather upset , because looking at the boat it appears that there is much more room available. They argued with the captain for a bit, saying that they were now going to be late for lunch and that the two children in their party shouldn’t count, that they really were only a party of 5. The captain was going to let them board if anyone on the boat now was going to get off at POFQ instead of continuing on to DTD, but nobody was. I felt really bad for the captain, he was just following the rules and because of it had to hear and earful from this family. We left them behind, sulking on the dock, and were off to DTD. I love the boat ride, it’s a nice and peaceful ride along the river, and we even got to see the Treehouse Villas which were very cool. I’d love to stay in them one day!
We got to DTD and found it quite empty , and we took our time browsing and strolling through.
We started to get a little hungry , so we decided to stop in at the Cookes of Dublin for some lunch. Kaeli was grumbling a bit that she didn’t want to eat here, there was no pizza on the menu. There were plenty of options for her, and she had been eating pizza most of the week, so we didn’t give in to the mini tantrum she was throwing and go somewhere else instead. She ended up getting the chicken and chips meal, loving it and devouring the whole thing! Chris and I both got fish and chips and an order of onion rings to share, while Abby went with the mac and cheese.
Look what we found! Three onion rings fried together in a hidden Mickey
After lunch, we continued on towards the West Side, stopping along the way for some photo ops.
Finally making it to our destination
We headed inside and up the elevators to where you start out on the 3rd floor. We took a look at the map to try and decide where to go first, but it’s a little overwhelming with 5 floors of video games and activities to choose from! We decided to start out on floor 3, and then moving up to 4 and 5 before heading back down to finish up on floors 1 and 2. We found a little section of games dedicated to Wreck It Ralph, they had a bunch of Fix It Felix games to play which was fun!
I think it was also on this floor that they had a bunch of retro games like Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Space Inavaders, etc, all of the games that Chris and I grew up with. We were having a blast playing them all, but the girls just declared them old and boring.
We had a lot of fun at DQ, we probably spent a good couple of hours in there. In the end, it worked out that BB was closed, because we most likely would not have tried DQ had we gone to the water park like planned.
After we had our fill of video games we decided to head over to Epcot early, so we could fit in a few things before meeting our friends for dinner at the Garden Grill. We started to make our way towards the bus stop, but then I remembered that there isn’t bus service to the parks from DTD. I didn’t feel like wasting the time heading over to a resort, only to have to wait again for another bus, so we decided to just cab it. We got to the cab stand in the West Side’s parking lot, but there were no cabs there. Chris called the number that was on the sign and asked for a cab to Epcot, the guy who answered told him that there is a cab waiting at the stand for us. Um, nope, we’re here, but the cabs aren’t! A couple of minutes later, a cab pulled up and 10 minutes and $15 later we were being dropped off at Epcot.
Thank you, thank you Jenn for posting pictures of DQ and explaining it better. I think it's going on the list for next trip. We've never been, but it looks really cool!
Sounds like a good day, and I think it was a great idea to catch a cab. We always have cab money ready for when we need it. It's just so easier some times.
Can't wait to hear about your meal with your friends. Sounds like fun!
I always forget about DQ, but it was a great choice for you to get some use of the option on your tickets. I've never been inside, but it looks like there's something for everyone there. I love the hammock photos--Abby looks so tiny!
