Come sail away, Come sail away, Come sail away with me TR Completed 2/8/2012 - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Is it weird that I can taste lemon right now? That is too funny.
I'd LOVE to have a margarita with you Linny. One day we'll be able to.
I'm so bummed the storyteller didn't come. But I'm glad you did more exploring and enjoyed the resort. I can't wait to be back 'home' in just under 4 months!!!

Glad you got to see some of the show with Josie on your last night. I kind of felt like they rushed me off the ship, but I had the later seating! Aaahhh, AKL, my favorite! Looks like you had a lot of good animal watching. And Boma! Too funny that Andre loved sucking that lemon. Those pics are so super cute. My favorite one though is the three of you reading Duffy's book. So sweet!

Ahhh, Kelly, we need to have a margarita together one day
Well, I'm crashing the party and inviting myself along too because I never got the chance to enjoy one of those on my vacation. Hope you all don't mind too much.
Anyway, I can't believe your trip has pretty much come to an end. Reading your story about Andre and the lemon made me laugh. This was a huge deal between my brother and I when Hope was small. He kept asking me if he could give her a lemon, and I kept telling him no. So finally when we were at Ocean City I gave in, and here's the results...
I think she was about 14 months old at the time, and she did not like it. But now, you let her suck on one of those things and she's all over it. Strange.
Anyway, I'm glad you had a wonderful evening at AKL, even though the storyteller was a no show.
Just getting caught up here now that your at/near the end! You have a beautiful family, the kids are sooo stinkin adorable! You got some really great pics on your trip. Some of my favs are: the one with Josie being tossed in the air by her dad, Andre at CC beach sleep smiling in his stroller, the family pirate pic, Andre checking out Pinnochio pretty hard and Andre checking out Capt. Mickey. I have to agree, Andre has the cutest cheeks. And he seems to always be smiling.
I really loved how Josie kept asking about the boats when she'd see one. She seemed like she was really excited about getting on the boat!
How unfortunate that Arnaud didn't get a chance to ride the Aquaduck but it does make a great excuse to go on another cruise!
Too funny about the lemon and Andre. When my DD was a little tyke we were at a restaurant and they had cut up lemons out for tea and/or beer and Steph just happened to grab one when I was holding her by them one day. I thought it would fun to see what her expression would be when she sucked on it but I was surprised to see she just continued like it was an orange or candy. EWWW
I have to admit, I'm like you about the packing and rearranging things. Its like a weird complusion for me. I do it any time I travel. And I definitely have had some freak out, crazy lady moments when I didn't know where my DD was when I knew she should be safe.
Sounds like y'all had a great trip despite the rockiness of the boat and those meanie peeps who obviously forgot they booked a DISNEY cruise. We are going on a cruise in Oct, its my first ever. Have you ever been on a train?? If you have, is the motion similar?
well now that you have had that nice relaxing day at akl and dme is picking you up the next morning, I can see how the day after may be a bit depressing! I am thinking more than one day in the resorts after a cruise would be best!

Of course you can crash! The more the merrier right. I've been to a Heather (ilovedisney247) margarita meet and they're the best! What's better than Disney & margaritas.
Those pillowcases are great! What a good idea instead of the standard autograph books. Did I miss how you got all those autographs??
Love the picture of Josie chillin' on the AK balcony and yes, I remember those texts I got and thinking how good one of those would be right then!
Hysterical about Andre and the lemon...but these are my favorite two pictures of them. How happy Josie looks with her book and just look at those cheeks of Andre's. Need to bite them!!

LOVE the lemon story. My DH was a lemon sucker as a baby and his family loved to watch him cause he'd suck it and then just SHAKE. They still talk about it. So sorry your trip is over. It's been really fun.
Sounds like you had a really nice end to your trip. Although the end is never as exciting as the beginning. And thanks for the advice you left me in my PTR. We took tons of pictures and videos and DS already likes watching them. Hopefully it will help him remember. No luck convincing the DH to book a bounce back, but we'll be back in 2014 or he'll be sorry. Maybe I just needed to give him a few more drinks before I asked about it.
What a shame that the storyteller never showed up, but Josie seemed VERY happy with her Duffy book. The kids look aDORable in their jammies!
Thanks!

I know, gross right. I think they don't have that sour taste bud yet?? The only time I'll be biting down like that into a lemon is if it's dipped in sugar and following a big gulp of Vodka

Thanks, that moment was one of the very best from this trip.

Thank you for all the kind words. I have been on a train and no, the movement is not similar. In my opinion. The boat just makes you feel off a little, in the head, like the begining of a headache maybe? Not always either, trust me. But I think it always is different, I have been on 4 cruises and I could feel the ship move from time to time. I have never been sick either, just at times a bit......off. I wouldn't worry at all about it, you will be having so much fun that at times you do forget you are even on a moving ahip. Enjoy your cruise!!

I'm coming too!!!
I got the pillowcases off of the Etsy website, you can leave them at GS with a box of fabric markers and maybe a small treat for the CM's. I will for sure do those again!
And duhhh.........of course you are coming to any margarita meet/party!!!

Give him a few margaritas and then get back to me
Looking forward to hearing about your trip!!
Boo, going home today. Once we woke and ran out to the balcony for some more last minute animal sightings we were eating our breakfast treats that I got the night before and getting dressed. I am not sure what I was thinking when I packed for this trip, but today was chilly and I just pulled out the warmest looking clothes I could for my kids. Whoopise.
Josie was making good use of her binoculars this morning!
Some more rearranging of the bags and a good bye to the savannah view, we were off to the lobby to wait for DME. Normally on our last day I tend to not visit a park but go have a nice character breakfast to end out the trip. Well with AKL not having one, I thought that it was best to just get going home on an earlier flight and get back into the “normal life” groove.
We walked around the lobby a bit more and said see ya, and then waited outside for the bus.
Once to the airport we had a small delay, which was actually good because Josie met a friend and then just played a little. The flight home was quick and painless, Andre fell asleep on my lap as we were taking off and stayed that way almost the whole flight. We landed and got our bags, car and then home………………just like that. OVER.
We had a great vacation as a family of 4 for the first time! We made it!! Alive!! I have been thinking a lot about my final thoughts and hope to get what’s in my head all written down this week to fill you in on…………it’s a lot.
Thank you for being hanging with me on this TR. I hope you have enjoyed reading along, as much as I have enjoyed sharing. UP NEXT: Final Thoughts!
