As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After we said our goodbyes Ellie and I headed towards the front of the park for a ride on the Monorail as we had a mission to accomplish! The Monorail Lounge Crawl! Since we were coming from Epcot, we started with the Polynesian as it’s just an easy walk over to the Grand Ceremonial House from the TTC.
After an uneventful monorail trip we strolled on over and headed upstairs to the Tambu Lounge outside of Ohana. It was certainly busy here tonight with a lot of hustle and bustle, but we were lucky enough to get two seats at the bar and perused the menu. We decided to both go with a signature drink here to start the crawl off in style!
The Backscratcher
I’ve had many a Lapu Lapu at the Polynesian so I wanted to mix it up and try the Backscratcher. It was a great change of pace, still fruity and packs a punch but I didn’t have to worry about eating pineapple at the end. The apps/small bites menu here looked wonderful as well so I made a mental note to come here for food at some point! (also I’m pretty sure this was before Trader Sam’s opened!)
We enjoyed many people trying to order the “Lapu Lapu” with varying degrees of success in their pronunciation, it was perfect entertainment I forget what Ellie’s drink was now, I took a picture of the bar menu but nothing seems to match the glass she got
After we were done here we made our way over to the swanky Mizner’s Lounge over at the Grand Floridian one monorail stop away, which was incredibly crowded! The bar was packed, the tables were packed, and people were even sitting on the windowsills! We arrived right inbetween sets of the musicians in the lobby which was a bit of a bummer but we didn’t let it deter us.
We found a waiter and placed our order, asking if we were allowed to leave this immediate area and he would still find us, he said of course! We wandered off and found two cozy chairs with a small table by the top of the stairs on the second level still and settled in.
The Grand Cocktail
I stuck with a signature cocktail here but Ellie made the switch to beer so she could make it through the whole crawl as we were on a bit of a time crunch we were drinking at a steady pace. The Grand Cocktail had a cranberry juice base which isn’t typically my favorite but was still pretty good!
After our enjoyment here in our own secluded area, we hopped back on the monorail, past the Magic Kingdom, and over to the Contemporary where we had two stops to make!
First off, I wanted to grab a late night snack for later… so we headed to Contempo Cafe for some dessert to go!
Bakery case at the Contempo Cafe
I really think this bakery is completely underrated in the Disney realm, they have some of the BEST cupcakes on property. I just got a basic vanilla cinderella cupcake and it was simply divine!
Then we headed next door to the Outer Rim which never seems to be very crowded. We got a bit more boring here and just both ordered basic drinks and chatted with the bartender a bit as we sat at the bar for speed and ease.
After our quick stop here we walked over the bridge to Bay Lake Tower and up to the top for Top of the World and timed it so we could watch Wishes!
Monorail Yellow and Top of the World
I think we each got one more drink and some water as it was once again a crowded spot. We headed outside for the show and just ENJOYED. No pictures tonight We headed back in as of course the crowds thin out almost immediately after the fireworks here, pulled up a chair and sat and chatted for a while while crowds thinned out. Eventually we started getting tired and walked over to the MK bus depot and hopped on a bus back home to OKW.
We arrived back to find this…
No more shortage of towels I suppose…
Then it was snack and review Photopass pics from the day time!
Cinderella Cupcake (it didn’t survive the trip home pretty)
And shortly thereafter we drifted into dreamland oh and PS. TiW is accepted at all of these lounges so we added some additional savings tonight, but I somehow didn’t take pictures of all the receipts to remember the exact amounts.
Day 6 -
Total Steps: 21,012
Highlight: A very empty morning at Magic Kingdom!
Something New: Meeting Anna & Elsa - I just don’t get the hype
Tip for Next Time: It pays to wake up early! 20 minutes of waiting for the park to open (with entertainment usually) saves a ton of time waiting in line with all you can get done in that first hour.
That was certainly a fun time and great night! Tambu and Mizner's are certainly two of my favorite lounges in WDW! Two more I really love are Bellevue at BWI and VF at AKL! You can't beat these!
It's funny as back in 2009 for PP's 10th anniversary celebration and get together, I tried to organize something like this called "Drinks On The Monorail", but alcohol is not allowed on them, which makes sense with families etc, even though we would have done this later at night. Time constraints were tough and why the idea was the former and not a lounge hop as it would have been after Wishes and a bit late. Only so much you can pack in! I like your idea and something I want to do eventually! Although, not a DVC member. I will be left out of the TOTWL!
I suppose, if you really want to go all out in this regard, your could do that around WS in Epcot and I'm sure that would catch up to you rather fast, especially during daylight with a hot sun!
