Wait!!! Wasn't this supposed to be a weekend trip? TR COMPLETE 11/2 - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love that they have so many pool activities to keep everyone entertained. Congrats to Angel!
Citricos looks amazing!! We considered it, but I think we'll save that for a time when Craig and I can go alone and really enjoy the menu.
I love that you loved citricos....definitely one of our must dos between the great food and the great service....so happy it did not disappoint!
What a wonderful evening at MK...you accomplished a ton of my favorites, too. Glad Jaz was able to re-live some of her childhood and truly enjoy FL.
I am with Angel on a night swim....it is a great way to wind down and relax after the parks.
Can't believe it is half over already!
Danielle
I totally understand why Citricos is such a favorite - we all loved it and we will be returning. I truly loved Jasmine enjoying some of her childhood memories...when she requested Dumbo I had the biggest smile on my face, once she asked if she could ride with me...well I think I shed a tear (not that I let her know that )

Angel just loves her teacups...even though she has to ride alone as none of us can keep up with her spinning . We really enjoyed Samawati at night...we missed the movies most nights but one night we caught the tail end...it was too funny seeing the pool full of people at 9 pm and none of them moving as they all just were standing transfixed to the screen.

You really must get there, the food was amazing, and they were great with Angel's allergies.
So taking an intermission from the normally scheduled trip report...the Photopass CD came today so I will backtrack a bit with some pictures from our first few days.
We had an ADR this morning at Boma but we were all exhausted so I called Disney Dining and cancelled our breakfast. I was really looking forward to it but there is always next time and that extra hour or so of sleep really was in need for all of us.
When we finally did arise I took my shower and then the girls took showers while I spent a few last precious moments on the balcony just looking out at the savannah, while I was excited about the BW I found myself a little to be leaving, I so had fallen head over heels for the AKL.
Now the funny thing was I had brought shorts that had a matching top but I forgot the top...but I really wanted to wear the shorts so I took this as a sign that I really needed to go down to the store and boy the shirt I had been staring at for the past few days.
I stopped to take a few pictures as I made my way downstairs.
Now all week I had been wanting to buy the orange shirt that Cam had purchased...however my shorts were blue...well what is a girl to do, they happened to have a variety of the shirt that I had been eyeing in blue so one purchase done (you will see the shirt in pictures later), then Jasmine had been looking at the beautiful wood carved animals, she thought it would look perfect in our living room, there were so many beautiful ones but since we had all fallen in love with the giraffees this trip I purchased the mother and child statue (I will take a picture and add it later). I headed up to the register and a 10% discount with the Disney Visa made the purchases even more perfect.
I loved this....the poor woman at the register must have thought I was nuts but she moved out if the way so I could get my shot.
I headed back upstairs and changed into my new shirt. The girls were spending a few last minutes on the balcony themselves. We headed down, went to bell services to have them transfer our bags to the BWV and said goodbye It was weird as usually the girls would have been excited but even they were a bit we all really just fell in love with this resort.
Today we had the longest wait of the trip so far...20 minutes for a DTD bus. The plan was that we would wander and my sister who had an ADR would text me when she was finishing up at T-Rex and we would happen to meet up. We made it to DTD around 11 and we wandered around a bit...it was hot, and the humidity had kicked up a notch today so by 11:45 we headed over for lunch at EOS (something we had all been waiting for).
Lunch was delicious as usual and with our bellies nice and full we headed out for more wandering. We hadn't made any purchases yet and as we walked over to check out the DTD version of Babycakes my sister texted that they were finishing up so we headed over there with the premise that we would check out the store. On the way we stopped for a few pictures of the new lego store.
They took a long time to finish up and the girls had wandered back over to Babycakes (no purchases though) and suddenly my sister walked out and I surprised my nephew who was super surprised to see Auntie Meg at Disney. We found the girls and Angel was really surprised.
After the intital hugs we headed off for some retail therapy. On Angel's list was two things, a box of acessories for her Mr. Potato Head and a grab bag from the bargain store (I really like how they redid this store).
We stopped in Trend-D for a bit as Jasmine wanted to try on some shirts she had seen, while she tried on shirts Angel decided she needed to try on some headgear.
Once purchases were made we decided to head onto the bus to the BW so I could check in and then we would head over to Epcot. The kids stopped for a few more pictures along the way.
Now I have to say while I love the BW I detest the bus to the BW area from DTD, first off I have always had the most terrible waits and today was no different, I think we waited almost 30 minutes for a bus. The only good thing was that the AC was a nice reprieve from the heat...and we headed off for the nice looonnnggg ride to the BW. After stopping at the Swan, the Dolphin, the YC and the BC we finally reached our destination.
Now I had done online check-in, not sure if this was the wrong decision but I went to check in and our room was ready...so we headed up to see the room and we walked, and walked, and walked until we could not walk any longer and there at the end of the hall was our room 4136.
We had a beautiful view though...
But I so dreaded the walk...it was like endless hallways. I did go back to see if they had anything closer but there was nothing . I did head out later that evening to explore and realized that the walk was not bad outside as all we had to do was walk past the community hall and then we were at the main pool and it was wasy to head to the Boardwalk from there so that is what we did most of the time (except when we were not in the mood to climb four flights of stairs )
The room did wear on us, I really enjoyed it in the evening as it was nice and quiet but I think the next time I might not check-in online and see if that lucks me out any better.
Our bags were not there yet so we decided to head out to Epcot...now here is the first laugh for at least me and my girls. One of the reasons we love the BW area is the walk to Epcot, well I forget my sister walks no where (where they live there really isn't anywhere to walk) so they drive everywhere.
So here are me and my girls skipping along the way, smiles on our faces as we are back on the BW (still missing AKL but remembering why we love it here) and my sister says "so how do we get to Epcot" and we say "we walk, its right over there"...ok they were not happy with the walk, my nephew says "why would you walk if you could take a boat"....he even asked if we could drive. Ok this was going to be fun
As you can guess this was the last time my sister walked with us to our resort (she was staying at CSR - a nice resort she says where you can take a bus...lol)
We finally made our way to the IG (after a very slow walk) and a smile grew on my face, I love this entrance...walking right into the WS. I was happy and so were my girls, my sister and nephew well after a cold drink they were fine and we were ready to begin our Epcot Adventures.

LOL about the nice resort where you can take a bus . . . I love when people ask me how far things are and I tell them 5 or 6 blocks and they ask where they can get a taxi. Really? We're going to have to work on coordinating our trip dates one of these days. I'd love to meet you guys!

I'd take a walk or a boat over the over air conditioned busses any day! In fact, my first stay at YC we actually took the boat to Epcot and walked thru the park to the monorail to get to MK. I'm dreading the busses to/from the Dolphin for October.
So sad you had to leave AKL, it really is such a great resort. I stayed there right after it opened and ended up spending more time at the resort than in the parks.
Love the photopass pictures! Funny story about your sister and the walking... I love the walk from BWI to EPCOT... it's so fast and easy and poof you're in EPCOT! *swoon* I'd live there if they'd let me!
So much to comment on today! Everyone of your PP photos is awesome, but I especially like the one you three in front of castle at night! Very special! I am so happy that you all fell in love with AKL, too, it is my home away from home as you know. But I'm excited to here all about your BWI stay as that is our next destination, hopefully (we can't book until November). Can't wait to see your shirt! Angel is a doll in all those hats. I had to laugh at stay at a place where you can use the bus rather than walk to Epcot! The walk is part of the reason I feel in love in BC and will probably enjoy BWI so much. That is the coolest way to enter Epcot! So sorry you have that horrendous walk to the room; reminds me of our Kidani walk. Like you, I've wondered if online check-in sets you up to get the remotest rooms as they may be the ones cleaned and ready first. Wish there was a way of knowing if that is what happens??? Can't wait for more!
Hpefully will have another installment up tomorrow night - tonight got away from me with all those wonderful first day of school notes to sign

Walking is definitely not my sisters forte. But I have come to conclusion that you really befriend people that are a lot like you....my sister called and asked me to look into some hotels for some of hr friends that are coming to NY, they wanted a hotel in Times Square. So I checked out a few, then told her about one that is a perfect location to midtown, maybe a few blocks from Times Square with a better rate....she calls me back and says "well they looked at it on the map and it is like a 7 block walk to Times Square, they did not want to walk that far . Ok you are going to NY everyone walks.... They ended up booking a cheaper hotel in Jersey City...ok I guess a Path train to the subway is an easier commute
We definitely have to coordinate days soon Heather - we all would love to meet up with you as well

Angel is such a ham! Great PhotoPass pics!
Jennie, we have done the walk through Epcot to the monorail many times as well - especially when it comes to the buses to the MK, a much easier (and more pleasureable commute IMHO )

We love the walk as well, one of the reasons why we love the area so much...funny thing was my sister used to always walk, she grew up in NY we all walked, guess living in a place where everywhere is a car ride has made her forget her roots
I think that is why she stayed at a different hotel then me, I think she feared I would have her up at the crack of dawn doing one of my morning strolls around the lake with me.

Thanks so much Cam, I was really happy at how the PP pictures came out, such a worthwhile memory for us...I think I might drive the girls crazy at times because I see a photographer a mile away, thankfully they love me so they apease my "catch that photographer" craziness.
I remember you description of the walk in Kidani...you know it really was not a bad location, walking outside we were right by the quiet pool, right near the community hall and a two minute walk to the main pool when we walked on the outside. A first or second floor room would have made it perfect but the four flights definitely gave us our exercise for those few days
Finally caught up! Your final day with just the three of you sounded like perfection! And I also love to walk. We'll have to plan overlapping trips so I can take that early morning walk with you!

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
Now I live where we drive everywhere too, but at Disney it's different. And we visited NY once too and walked pretty much everywhere - we did ttake the subway a few times.
Great PhotoPass pictures! I almsot asked if you booked your next stay at AKL and then remembered that yes you had. And if you fell in love with AKL this trip - just wait until the next one!
We are doing AKL for the #1 portion of our January trip. Land/Sea/Land Dream cruise to the Bahamas. Cannot wait...only stayed there one night before and we are doing 2 nights, 3 days before our cruise. Loving all the advice and now looking forward to it. I was kind of trying to talk the crew into Poly or GF...but I think we'll stick with AKL
