Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love that you thought about overplanning your non-planned trip and backed it back down. I'm an over planner and would love to be able to pull back, it's just not in my nature.

Exactly, I am surprising myself with my "whatever" attitude for this trip. The only reason I can come up with is I always try to accomodate everyone each trip, making sure no one gets burnt out, everyone's "must dos" are incorporated into the plans, not stepping on any toes, blah, blah, blah.
Factor in the "no need for a ressie" thanks to the F&WF and it's a no brainer - I'm doing what interests me. Whatever I'm in the mood for. This trip is starting to sound better and better!
Of course, I do plan on running into a few PPs along the way and being solo works well since I don't have to explain what's going on.

That's exactly why I'd love to try a solo trip soon, and why I'm loving following along on yours!

Thank you for following! I do have a little nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I'll probably get lonely at some point (maybe my Le Cellier dinner?) probably not to long.
I did get a silly idea reading Chip & Co.'s update for today. It was concerning ride photos. The author's family likes to make faces. What if I be "that guy"?? I mean just bust out in some crazy face?? I don't plan on buying any of the photos but I would get a chuckle out of another family spotting the crazy lady in their photo.
BTW, I only own four ride photos. Two are from my only rides on ToT (10 years apart did not change my view of this ride, I still hate it!). Terror is right! You know it's bad in the photo when the CM at the counter pulls up the pic and busts out laughing. The other two are EE & Dinosaur which are funny due to other people's terror not mine! I really wish you could add the ride photos onto your photopass card like with Test Track (w/o the $20 price).

Somehow I find the Idea of you getting Lonely a little far fetched especially for someone so fetching
Read what you wrote about your ride photo's you are allready that Person in other peoples photos What happened you ride Splash Mt after I broke the camera with this mug? They told me they replaced it
We do buy the ride photos, however I'm with you, they should let us put them on the PhotoPass like TT.
I love our ride photos for that exact reason, the faces people make cause the know the picture is coming. We laugh hysterically at some and they make great memories!! We are face makers too at times.
We have 2 ride photos and we bought them because our middle son looks absolutely terrified in both of them. Not sure what that says about us a parents . One is Dinosaur and he was just Freaked Out when the carnotaur jumped out at the end. And the other is TOT when he was 4. He isn't afraid to try anything but we had to actually hold him down when the elevator dropped because he's so small he flew up in the seat. The picture is of him screaming and me, DH and our oldest looking at him. It's great!
I know that they are working on getting the ride photos on to the photopass - the problem is that those photo booths are under separate contracts, so they need to come up for signage again for them to make changes (you can do it mid-contract, it's just harder usually.) Rides that do photopass now either were installed after photopass became standard or had their contracts come up since photopass went it.
I do expect in the next 5 years or so all rides will be on photopass
Just had a random thought I know becuase I can smell the rubber burning Who is going to take care of little Mushu while you are gallavanting around WDW? As a mommy now you have new responabilities that you need to take into consideration Young Lady!

While I would love to take the furball with me to hang out with in my room at night, she'll just be staying home and a friend will be stopping by at lunchtime daily.
Don't worry, I'll be getting her some Disney souvies to add to her collection!
Yet another item on the drawing board has fallen by the wayside. I was hoping to catch a few of the new mixology seminars as happy hour before having dinner around the F&WF. Well, they released the info on them and I am severely disappointed.
Instead of showcasing a different liquor daily, it seems they are using the same item for several days in a row. I'm sure they will have a different cocktail using that liquor but c'mon! they couldn't come up with a more to choose from? During my stay, there will only be two different items offered. Cruzan Rum, Thatcher's & tequila and Niege from Canada. I got stiffed! How come I didn't score with Disaronno, Belvedere, or Cachaca??? Phooey!
That's a double Phooey since my Eat to the Beat Concerts are Roger Hodgson from Supertramp and Billy Ocean. I am a fan of neither. At least Roger will be performing for the Party for the Senses evening. If I had to sit thru Get Outta My Dreams, I'd shoot myself. I might be able to catch Jon Secada once if I don't attend the Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic.
Maybe I'll just take the dough I was planning on using for this and enjoy a spa treatment at the Mandara Spa. Hmmmm....
Trip to the Spa sounds like a winner. Very Glad your little one is going to betaken care of in you absence. Just be prepared for one unhappy little girl once the initial excitement over your return subsides.
Our Monkey who thought Lucille brought me home just for her would go nuts after we came home then would walk 5 feet away sit down with her back to me nose in the air She would stay that way until dinner
