Taggin' Along Compliments of Disney! - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I can't believe how close you are now!! Just a couple of days and you'll be in the bubble! I'm a learn as you go person too. Don't like manuals, I learn better if I'm actually doing something. Good luck!

Good luck with the camera-but you know, I wouldn't worry about it for this trip. Just take as many pictures as you can- but maybe just take full advantage of the PP photographers! I think the class is an awesome idea! You'll be a pro with that camera by your next trip!!!!
Everything I've learned about my DSLR is from hands-on experimentation with it. The books bore me, too! I still have tons to learn, but the fun is in playing with and discovering what it will do. for learning as you go!

Same here Melissa!
You are so close now, I am soooo excited for you!!!

All caught up again. Sounds like your plans are falling into place. I love the t-shirts. I'm not one for matchy-matchy either, though I always think it's cute on other people! And my DM has an annoying habit of buying the same stuff as me (usually shoes). I always pick out stuff to wear that I know she doesn't have when we go anyplace together. Sorry you're bored by your photography book. One of the reasons I decided not to upgrade to a digital SLR is because I'm not one for settings and f stops and what have you. And honestly, I'm not surprised the book is boring you. I think you'll probably learn a lot better just by using the camera, so take lots of pictures with it and you'll naturally get better.

I say just learn as you go.
2 days and you will be having a blast.
I told my girls this morning that this time last year we were at WDW. They told me not to remind them!
I hope you have a great time.
That probably wasn't a very good reminder, but I say that kind of stuff all the time.

Said we needed to save the money for disney yea while we starve LOL
I have no idea about big honkin cameras : Eric taught me all the ins and outs of mine. See I let him read the manual because it bores me and he taught me how to use it
Well I think the pics you take will be just fine anyway
NOT MUCH LONGER FOR REAL THIS TIME!
I think that's a great idea. Save all of your eating for the food & wine festival anyway! Maybe Eric can teach me how to use my camera then, since he's an expert on these things, and then I wouldn't have to take a class.

I hope you see us or we see you...wave &/or say HI! Pixies & prayers for a wonderful last few days of prep & a magical trip!!
Everyone keeps asking me why Chad isn't going and I keep saying he didn't want too, but I'm going to have a great time without him! I will miss him though, and this will be his first time away from Hope for so long. I'm glad you're feeling better because we can't have you feeling sick for your trip. I will definitely say if I see you.

Don't be jealous...although I'd feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot.

You do have more of an advantage than I have with my SLR camera as your's is digital and mine is film, so if pictures don't come out perfect, you can delete them or edit them a lot easier. Mine I couldn't preview at all until they were developed. I will say Photography classes help a lot. That was one of the best college courses I took for 6 weeks and loved it so much and helped me become a better photographer. Practice makes perfect. Tripods also help a lot with more stable pictures. One tip that may work for you, if you can photograph anything aroubd fruit or vegetable stands or Train Stations(I'm thinking Union Station), they're great places to take practice photos. I know one day in my Photography Class we took pictures of fruit in boxes with signs stating the prices, and oh my have those been some of my favorite pictures with my SLR Camera, in addition to different busses and Sinage in London. Maybe Hope may be in a Photogenic mood to let you Photograph her. Babies and Toddlers can be hit or miss with Photographer. Good luck and only a couple more days until you're in WDW. Any pictures you get will be memories of your trip. Just have some patience with your new camera and it will come to you.
I think I'd die if I had to learn this as a film camera!!! At least I can delete all of my mistakes, and trust me, there are a lot of them!

Just 2+ more days!!! Can you believe it? I can't!
Sometimes I wish it was just a point & shoot! At least I'd have a better understanding of what I was doing. I know...two more days for the both of us! Just different outcomes.

Learning by example is the best way IMHO.

Yeah, my pics won't be professional in any way, shape or form, but at least I'll have photos for everyone to look at.

Once I figure out this camera a little bit more it should be more fun rather than annoying. But I'm only taking this camera, not my old point & shoot, so I have to use this no matter what. I think that will help a little bit.
I can't believe your trip is finally here! You are going to have a blast but I also know that Chad is going to miss Hope horribly, and you too of course!!

Melissa, you can use it in standard beginner mode. That may help until you get the hang of it. Also keep in mind after you take a color shot and want different effects like B&W or Sepia, you can always edit it after you take the picture, save it in color and change the effects on your computer. I highly agree with the others though, hands on experienceand playing with the settings will help the most.

Well, I just looked at the weather for our trip and it's going to be hot! My mom said maybe we should save the t-shirts for later and take tank tops. I was like, No Way! You wanted to do this and you're not getting out of it now.

I definitely won't. The camera is going to be my friend not enemy on this trip.

That's what I'm doing now. I've taken plenty of pictures with it, just not at the level I wanted to be at. I know how to work it, I just don't know how to get technical with it. As for editing, I've always been a pro at the computer so that's definitely not a problem. I just wish I could figure out the camera like I do with my computer programs.
