Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

That's certainly saying something as I know you literally die for these! This is not for everyone, but I know I'm enjoying it!

There is definitely a large scare and horror factor to HHN and if being scared bothers you then probably not for you. I've been ok with it as it's not real. The desserts back at the cafe certainly hit the spot!

Enjoying it a lot so far and still more to come with at least one more update on HHN. It can be quite scary at times and especially in the houses. Glad you like the photos.

I can see your point as just not the thing for some people! The desserts were all quite good and enjoyed them quite so and probably had too many of them!

The buildings are always there and are studios used for movies and TV programs. Not sure how much they are used. The houses were quite scary but with some better than others.

Very much so and glad I decided to not only do HHN but the R.I.P Tour. There's still more to come on my experience.

Uh, Oh What Just Happened?

Thursday, October 5th (Part VI)
I had completely lost track of time at this point and unsure exactly what time it was! Next up for us was the “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure” show. Checking the brochure (as I write this TR) our show was at 10:15 pm, so I’m guessing it was about 9:45 pm. The amphitheater for the show was very close to our last haunted house visit, so not much of a walk. Jarrarie gave us some time to use the restrooms before entering the theater. Some continued their beverage fondness by visiting a kiosk close by! I passed this time!

We entered the theater and there was a big crowd there already, but no worries as we had reserved seating, which was another nice perk of this tour! Our group was seated in the middle about halfway up and a bit to the left. Not the prime seats but very good and will give us a decent view of the entire show.

This is all the photos you’ll get from the show as they aren’t allowed as it’s a backstage area.

There was a brief introduction by a Universal cast member and then the show began. The actors playing Bill and Ted resembled them so much and did a great job portraying them. Early on, I was enjoying this show as I’ve seen the first movie of the series (“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”) and found it funny, even if quite silly.

About ten minutes into the show, we got a surprise and uh, oh what just happened? Unfortunately, the sound went out and we had to sit through this with technical difficulties while they tried to restore the sound. In the meantime, Bill and Ted did a bit of improv by running around the stage and entering and exiting the various doors throughout. Just didn’t know where they’d appear and was quite comical! I’m sure they prepare for situations like this. The sound was restored in about ten minutes and the show resumed!

I enjoyed the rest of the show and found it very funny and entertaining. It’s not G rated as some of the language and acting can be a bit racy at times, but still a good show.

This is the last year for this show and has been a staple at Universal for 26 years. After the show concluded, we filed out which took a while as the theater was quite full. We had a meeting place to gather after the show and waited there a bit until the crowd subsided.

Before, continuing with the last three houses Jarrarie gave us another break and many of us went to one of the beverage kiosks nearby where many of us including myself got a beer. One of the better kiosks, which was adjacent to the theater as they didn’t have the standard beers on tap. We had about 15 minutes until we were due to begin our next house visit. I just talked with those in our group for a while as we enjoyed our beers.

We began to walk to our next house and past the Men in Black attraction over to The Simpson’s ride. To get to the next house there was a separate entry into the backstage area for the R.I. P. Tour.

It would take us a few minutes to get there. We went by a staging area for the various HHN characters where they assemble for shift changes. I thought this was very interesting to see. After passing through here we walked through a parking lot where many vehicles for the various Universal productions are located. Soon after we reached our next house which was “Ash vs Evil Dead.”

This one was quite a big studio and had an enormous crowd corralled waiting to enter in the standby line. This was certainly the biggest crowd I had seen all night for one of the houses. I'm sure the wait was well over an hour and why the R.I.P. Tour makes so much sense to do! Jarrarie checked us in with one of the cast members and we began our experience with house #7 of 9 this evening.

Here is the synopsis of the “Ash vs Evil Dead house: “You’ll howl with terror and laughter as you witness Ash battle demons and deadites armed with his fueled chainsaw.”

Here’s a video of the “Ash vs Evil Dead” house.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jlR...CAA70&index=11

This was a good house with the theming, lots of scares, much action and mostly live actors as opposed to animatronic characters in some of the houses. Our group seemed to enjoy this house as well as I did. Not my favorite house but certainly a very good one.

We exited the backstage area and reentered the park near The Simpson’s ride. We walked back near the Men in Black attraction, where the last two houses were located and adjacent to each other.

First up was “Scarecrow the Reaping.” Here’s the description of this house: “At a long abandoned Depression era farm, vengeance takes root, and the only harvest that will be reaped is you. “

We checked in for the house and we entered for another adventure. The line wasn’t quite as extensive as the last house. This house was amazing on the outside as you had to cross some cornfields before entering which added to the experience!

Here’s a video of the “Scarecrow the Reaping” house.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HGm...7EEDA5EBECAA70

This was one of the most popular houses with our group and I enjoyed it so much as well. Definitely, one of my favorite houses of the night! Great theming, scares, gruesome and at times grotesque characters, but done so well! The best part being is throughout the house crossing through the cornfields and not knowing what would be ahead as you had to brush them to aside as you walked through them!

Now it was next door to our last house of the R.I.P. Tour. This may have been the longest experience of the night as there was so much to see and when you thought it was the end there was more to experience! This is “Hive” house. Here’s a brief synopsis of the house: “The crumbling house on 19 Hemingway Lane harbors a nest of bloodthirsty vampires. If you awaken them, you will face a savage, bestial hunger.”

After checking in for the house we began our last house adventure of the night. Below is a POV video of this last house.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7sg...CAA70&index=13

After exiting the house our group congregated outside and we walked to an area where we could talk with our tour guide Jarrarie for a while. Most of us enjoyed this house and I liked it quite a bit. Great theming lots of scares and good characters as well. Not the best house of the night, but certainly a good one.

Jarrarie asked us about the tour and the overall experience and all of us enjoyed it so much. Even though this was quite costly, it was the way to go on this and got to visit all nine houses without the incredibly long waits!

Jarrarie was a great guide who provided a wealth of information, made you feel at home, very personable, great humor and loved his dramatics in describing the experiences throughout the night! After we talked for a while we said our goodbyes and I told him how happy I was with him and glad I partook in this experience on my very first Halloween Horror Nights! I gave him a nice tip for the job and overall experience he provided! Well done and much obliged!

The tour was over but my night wasn’t! I still wanted to visit a few of the Scare Zones that I hadn’t experienced yet. Also, with the R.I.P Tour (I mentioned this in an earlier post) I receive an Unlimited Express Pass for the evening to ride several attractions that are open for Halloween Horror Nights. I was hoping to hit a few of them!

I remember you purchasing this and thinking "that's a lot of money", but my goodness, you did get a lot of bang for your buck with this tour. I've been reading it thinking "that's probably it" for the last couple of instalments and no, it's carried on. I'm really impressed by how much they packed into this, even though I know it's not something I'd ever do.

I had a similar thought to Cheryl's, remembering when I was initially shocked at the price of this tour, but now I see that US packs so much into the evening that it definitely seems a fair price.
