Me, Muffin and WDW for Xmas stuff!! PTR - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You see, you did manage to surprise us. This time it was Muffin who decided to change things. A great change, I must say. Congrats on those extra days at Disney!

So now we'll be arriving at MCO at 1:00PM on November 28th. When we were changing our plans, Muffin asked if I minded getting to WDW later in the day and I honestly thought he meant, like, 5:00PM. I said that it would be no problem and that I was just plain happy to be getting some extra Christmas time in at the World. So when he told me our flight would be getting in at 1:00 PM, you can imagine my surprise!!. I said,"That's not late!" He then explained that the other choice (remember I fly free and we are sometimes limited) was in fact a 5:00PM arrival and he didn't think I would go for that! Anyway!!
I figure we will get to AKL around 2:30PM or so and, hopefully our room will be ready and we can get settled. If it isn't, we will just head over to Victoria Falls for a nice drink and relax for a bit first. We have a 4:30PM dinner booked at Boma and then will head to MK. We aren't sure yet if we will drive or take the bus, so I guess we'll just play it by ear.
We have FP's for:
BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN
SPLASH MOUNTAIN
SPACE MOUNTAIN
Our First FP is between 6:00PM and 7:00PM, so we will take our time at dinner either way and just enjoy a leisurely MK evening. I hope we stay for Wishes, but if we are too tired, we will have a couple of other opportunities now to see it!
I also, of course, purchased Memory Maker as usual. There was some discussion as to whether or not to get it again, but we love getting Holiday photos!! I scrapbook and we also make photobooks on Shutterfly for our trips, so to me, it is worth the expense.
Next: Day 2-November 29th!

So! Before I start with my plans for Day 2 there are a few things I'd like to share!!
First of all, I forgot to tell you about my Thanksgiving work issue. We only do 8 hour shifts on the holidays. We are able to do this because most of us are 12 hour people and both day shift and night shift agreed to share the 3-11 rotation. We have been doing this for years and it works out well. This is my Thanksgiving to work and being a 12 hour person and a senior nurse, I mistakenly assumed that I was scheduled for 7AM -3PM on Thanksgiving and I invited 21 people for Thanksgiving dinner. You can imagine my surprise when the schedule came out and I found out I was working 3-11 and also 7-7 the next day!!
So! I asked Muffin if he still wanted to have everyone over without me and he said no way. I even offered to help prepare everything as I am off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Still no go. I had to call and text everyone and cancel the dinner..........
Honest to goodness, as soon as I did this, I got a phone call from a girl at work who offered to work my 3-11 on Thanksgiving if I would work day shift for her on Christmas.
I quick called everyone back and told them Thanksgiving was back on. I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm nuts, but they were all sort of relieved that they didn't have to make other plans. . I still have to work 7-7 on Friday the 27th, but I will have the rest of the week to pack and get stuff together before Thanksgiving. Anyway!
This weekend is jam packed for us!! We have our California cousins visiting for 3 weeks. They are staying with my SIL (who remember lives down the street). Tonight, I have a 'Painting with a Twist' class with my friends from work. I cannot paint to save my life, but you get to bring wine and cheese, so I'm sure no one will care! Tomorrow, Muffin has a reunion party at a friend from high school's house that he and his brother are going to. Then we are going to my SIL's for an hour or so to visit with our cousins. Then we are going to Sean and Jane's for dinner. On Sunday, we are going out to lunch with our friends that we are cruising with in December. I am dizzy just thinking about all of this!
Monday, I am totally slugging. I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and then Muffin and I are off on another mini adventure to Chicago and Green Bay again! I am excited because we are somehow fitting in the Mall of America!! I have never been to this shopping mecca before and plan to do a little Christmas shopping.
Ok! Back to Disney stuff!!
Day 2-November 29th
I am incredibly excited about today!! Honestly, DHS is my least favorite park...............
EXCEPT at Christmas!!
I absolutely love the Osbourne Family Spectacle of lights and it will be the saddest thing to me to go again this time of year and not see them anymore.. We are also doing two brand new things this year at this park!!
1. We are trying out the Sci Fi Dine Inn for breakfast!! We love this campy restaurant and have never eaten here for the food, although I will say the adult milkshake is the bomb! Anyway! The breakfast menu looks pretty good and I am very much looking forward to eating here this morning!!
2. We are going to Minnie's Holiday Dine at Hollywood and Vine!! I am super excited about seeing the fab 5 dressed in their Christmas finery!! Fantasmic! is also included in this dinner and maybe this time we will actually get to see it!!
We also plan on attending the shows this time around. We did not do this in July as it was just too stinkin' hot and most of them are outside. Our FP's for today are for:
Toy Story Midway Mania
Star Tours
Tower of Terror
Our FP's are for the morning hours and we hope to see the shows in the afternoon. Our dinner is for 5:00PM and we plan to see the Osbourne Lights afterwards. The park has EMH until 10:00PM and I am thinking we will stay for the duration this time!
Wait, you change things in real life too?! Not just your Disney life?!
I'm sure, like your PP friends, your family has learned to roll with it. I will grant that this one wasn't your fault..
for Chicago! Not sure, though, how you end up at Mall of America when you're in Chicago and Green Bay?! Do I need to get a map out!?
Just don't get TOO excited about MOA. I've been many times as I used to travel to MSP once a month. It's a gigantic mall, with an amusement park in the middle. The only difference from any other mall? They have 2 of a lot of things - one at each end, as it's so big. But it still has all the "normal" places - chain stores.
