Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12 - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A good hot dog after the 9th hole is my favorite golfing snack. Even though your round was on the long side, sounds like you had fun. I'd probably be too worn out to head to the MK after 18 holes
A very nice day at the golf course. I remember back when Shades of Green was "Disney's Golf Resort" before the Armed Forces affiliation. Seems ridiculous that they didn't have any real food at the snack bars!
I remember my parents telling me that they stayed here once as the Disney Golf Resort. My father was on a business trip and my mom joined him, although they didn't play golf.
They usually have plenty of sandwiches etc at the snack bars and snack carts on course, but today they didn't. It was quite busy at the course, so this may have had something to do with it and perhaps, they were unprepared for this!

The round of golf sounded nice. My dad always plays when we go. He will be playing on Sat, Tues and Thurs during our trip. He loves playing at Disney too!

I had a great time out there on a nice day! Although, I would like to spend more time in the parks. May do a golfless WDW the next time. That would be a first.

Glad you enjoyed your golf game so much! It's great that they provide the taxi service for free from the resorts! Looking forward to hearing about your evening at MK.
Glad you enjoyed the golf! Shame about the lack of hot dogs on the course though.
I've played many round down here previously and have always been able to get what I want for food on the course, so was surprised was this!

The free taxi service is a nice benefit of being a resort guest! On a couple of occasions the taxi driver got lost and I had to direct them how to get to one of the golf courses. Good thing, it wasn't my first visit and know my way around WDW and how to get everywhere. These drivers should know their way, but some obviously don't!

Glad you enjoyed the golf, other than not having the hot dog! More please!
It was a fun day and not being able to get a hotdog or sandwich was an inconvenience and did surprise me!
I know I'm slow on these updates, but tough to spend the time during work days doing this. Unfortunately, just weekends are best! Hope, it's been worth it to see these as I do love doing these and sharing them with everyone!

Actually about 95. Not terrible since I hadn't played since last September. I'm generally a 15 handicap, but haven't played as much over the last couple of years as previously as it's tough to find the time often!

I got to the North Depot at Riverside a bit after 5:15 as it’s only a minute or so walk there. That’s convenient with it being quite close. A number of people were waiting for buses here and several stopped here, but not one for the Magic Kingdom, after the first ten minutes or so. Within the first 15 minutes of waiting, there were three Studios buses that came and went, but no MK bus! Finally after 20 minutes or so, a Magic Kingdom bus made its’ grand entrance! I hate when that happens and having every bus stop here, but the one you want and multiples of some! The bus was fairly full, but seemed like most everyone had a seat.
After a fairly short drive, we arrived in the Magic Kingdom around 5:40 or so. I had two hours until my ADR at Be Our Guest, so I had some time for a few attractions and some exploring.
Always enjoy seeing this boat, but for some reason have never taken it. Goes from the MK to the TTC, adjacent to the Poly.
Never get tired of seeing this on entry. Love the designs for the Flower & Garden Festival!
Entered the Magic Kingdom and had no problem with my Magic Band and the lines weren’t too bad getting in as enough of the gates were open. That’s not always the case!
Great scenery and vibe along Main Street USA as always. Always like the entry to the four parks and I think this has the best of all with Main Street. I’d put the Animal Kingdom a close second!
Such detail in the MK and this window is no exception, especially being a golfer as I love this one!
I had one order of business now and had to make my way there. Due to the long golf round, I only had one Fastpass+ time remaining, from 5:35-6:35. I wish I had known, you could make multiple ressies on top of what you have already as I’d find out on this board shortly after my return. I think it was Cam with her Spring TR! It was off to Space Mountain and quite often this is the attraction I go on first during my first visit to the MK on my trip! When, I arrived there (taking my usual shortcut through Tomorrowland Terrace), the line for Fastpass+ was longer than the Standby Line as the ride had been down for a bit! I think this happens with SM more than any attraction in WDW! But it was up and running again!
The line moved pretty quickly, once I got inside and I think I was on it within about twenty minutes or so. I also got on it a bit faster as they needed a single rider and of course I volunteered!
I was in the front of the back car in #4. I always enjoy this and today was no different, even though how much you get jerked around with all the twists, turns and drops!
The shadows of the day were now playing a factor in my photos, but still came out pretty good. Just not all the detail you get in the middle of the day.
My next adventure would be a brand new experience for me and visit the re-imagined Fantasyland. I was looking forward to seeing this for the first time. I still had over an hour until my ADR, so I had time to explore and take in at least one attraction.
The line for Dumbo was 40 minutes so I passed as this wouldn’t give me enough time to explore the area and take photos before the sun went down.
The wait for The Barnstormer was only about twenty minutes, so this was my choice! I’d be riding this for the first time. The line moved pretty quick and I was on it by 7 pm. It was a good ride and coaster, but probably only lasts about 40 seconds! I did like the theming of the ride, which was done well.
Waterfall from outside Journey of the Little Mermaid. The Standby was 45 minutes. Wish I had more time. Tonight is EMHs in the MK but will be skipping it as I have a golf tee time tomorrow morning at 10 am and need to be up at 7 am. Although, I’ve done EMHs here a few times and enjoy the late Sunday nights here!
I think this is part of the Little Mermaid attraction as you can see a couple of people walking along to the entrance.
The Beast’s Castle! Soon, I’d be joining my host for dinner in his home! This one is a bit dark, with the sun quite low in the sky now as it was after 7 pm.
I arrived there at about 7:15, but still had about thirty minutes until my ADR, so I decided to explore the area a bit more and then return about 7:35.
Waterfalls in front of the residence of The Beast!
Seven Dwarves Mine Train. Unfortunately, this was not open yet, but looked almost finished! Looking forward to this on a future trip!
I found a friend!
I have countless photos from previous trips of the front of the castle and find the rear to be just as striking!
I did some more exploring and enjoyed seeing the New Fantasyland and all its’ detail. The imagineers did some job with this part of the Magic Kingdom and am enjoying it very much. Will probably take a few trips to experience much of this and the new attractions. It was about 7:35 pm and I returned to the Beast’s Castle, which was a short walk to check in for my Be Our Guest dinner!
NEXT: Uh, Oh....Seems Like Something’s Definitely Missing!
