Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I guess our early mornings had caught up to us, this is what happened on the bus ride home
Everyone but me had fallen asleep , so I just enjoyed the peace and quiet on a fairly empty bus back to POR.
We got off at the South Depot, because I wanted to stop in the gift shop to pick up the frame I had sent over from the MK on Sunday. The girls and I did some browsing while Chris took care of that, and I ended up getting a cute Minnie pullover sweatshirt for myself.
I loved these displays in the gift shop!
We were all feeling a bit hungry by now, so we stopped by Riverside Mill for some lunch. Chris and the girls went with the standard fare of burgers and pizza, but I wanted to try the make your own pasta bar that I had heard so many good things about. It did not disappoint! I had the Fettucine and chose shrimp, peas, artichokes and roasted red peppers in Alfredo sauce for my toppings. Absolutely delicious! They give you a rather large portion too, plenty to split as I could not finish it all on my own.
Bellies full, we headed back to our room for a bit of a rest before heading out to the MK tonight. After a quick freshen up, we were off to the MK. We stopped out front for some pictures in front of the train station
And then we made our way into the park and were pleasantly surprised to see that the fall decorations we had seen over the weekend had been taken down, with Main Street being transformed into a Winter Wonderland.
We stopped for a quick nature break and then moved on to Tomorrowland, which was completely empty. Everything was showing a 10 minute wait, or less, pretty good in my book! We wandered into a dance party with Chip and Dale by the stage, but the girls were uninterested. We decided to take a spin on the Peoplemover, one of our favorites.
After that, we went over to Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, and we just made it into the next show. As always, we had a good time helping those monsters collect our laughter. We still had time before we needed to check in for the dessert party, so we took a spin on SM and Buzz, which were both walk ons. In between all of our rides, I had been texting back and forth with another friend from home who we were hoping to meet up with tonight. They were running later than planned, so it didn’t seem like it was going to work out. But, as we were heading towards the bridge out of TL to get to the dessert party, I got a text that she and her family were walking in on the bridge, and as I looked up from my phone there they were in front of us. Perfect timing!
We chatted for a bit, but then went our separate ways, and we went and got in line to check in for the party. The line was pretty fast moving, and I was getting a little worried because my friend Chris and her family had not arrived yet. I wasn’t sure if they would let us check in without our full party, but stayed in line anyway, luckily they made it over to us just in the nick of time.
We had a table right up front, against the railing, with a great view of the Castle.
We enjoyed some delicious treats before Wishes started, Kaeli even got her own special plate of nut free desserts to enjoy.
This is what happens when I let Chris go up to the buffet by himself
After Wishes, we sat and chatted while finishing up our desserts. There were still some things left up at the buffet, and the CMs were not rushing anyone out of there at all. It definitely was a nice, relaxing way to enjoy the fireworks. The view is a little different from watching on Main Street, you can see in some of my pics that the fireworks are off to the side of the castle, but I didn’t feel that it took away from our enjoyement of them at all. Tinkerbell flew directly over us at the beginning, and the girls declared that their favorite part. Well, next to all of the yummy desserts of course!

We love the Dessert Party! I can't wait to book it for June. They sure are dragging their feet opening up dates though. What a great ending to a wonderful day! Oh, and build your own pasta is definitely one of the reasons why we love POR!
What perfect timing to get MK all decked out for Fall and for Christmas! Wonderful photos with the icy castle in the background. I know what you mean about the fireworks not being behind the castle seen from that spot, but it sure is a great place to watch Tink's flight.

LOL!! I like the pics of Chris in front of the castle at the dessert party!
SOunds like a very lovely evening enjoying desserts and watching Wishes. Tinkerbell flying is my DD favorite part too. We always have to make sure to stand where she can see her fly.
Glad you got a little nap in before the big party!

The sleeping pics on the bus are classic! The build your own pasta bar sounds delicious. The Wishes dessert party is a neat experience.
The pasta bar was so good, a nice alternative to typical food court finds!

This was our first dessert party, and we loved it! Kaeli has been asking me everyday if we can do it again next trip I wish it was easier to make reservations for though, I don't know why they are so slow at releasing dates for it

It was pretty perfect timing to see both the fall and holiday decorations, wasn't it? We could have done both MNSSHP and MVMCP too, which would have been really cool. Too bad my wallet couldn't handle it
I tried to get a picture of Tink as she flew overhead, but all I got was a streaky green line

I had no idea that Chris posed for those pictures until we got home. I had quite a chuckle when I saw them in our photopass account

It was so nice not having to stake out a spot and deal with the crowds on Main Street to see the show

What a great way to finish the evening! Desserts and Wishes... it doesn't get better than that.
Oh, that pasta bar was so good, I could have eaten it every day too!
It was a pretty good ending to the night, we all enjoyed the party

How cool that you got to see MK with both fall and Christmas decorations!
I agree that the make your own pasta is an excellent choice at POR. And a huge portion! My DDs and I shared one serving for lunch when we stayed there.
The dessert party sounds great! I think I should put that on our list of things to try one of these days!
