The way We do a Disney Re-Do ~~ Beach club Aug 13-22 - FINISHED!!! 1/20 - Page 21 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like a great evening, sorry that SplM was not a hit with Hannah but it seems like she enjoyed everything else (her comment about SpM was hysterical) this evening. Our first trip we watched Wishes from the same spot as you, we were stuck they just started and like you said...it was a perfect location.
Great picture of Hannah in front of the castle but my favorite....
priceless....this is such a great shot of the two of them.
I also found the buses to the Epcot resorts seemed much longer than others, it just does feel like there are a ton of stops along the way. The DTD bus seems long regardless of what resort we end up at, I think that was one of the reasons we always enjoyed POR, so we could take the boat, it might be long but so much more relaxing than the bus.

I will have to remember to give the Astro Orbiter another try at night time (we are going at Thanksgiving 11/18-11/28 this year. We have never been during a busy time, but have to b/c of dd's school. Hoping our trip will be better than your experience was last year. Any tips???) The first time we went it was during the day, and we were not impressed and we waited FOREVER to get on it, but I bet it is a much different ride at night. !
Our last trip was the Sat before Thanksgiving to The friday right after Thanksgiving. Our first park was MK on Sunday. It was crowded, but not as bad as on Thanksgiving day, or as bad as the last day of this trip (coming up later in the TR). I we "knew then what we know now" we could have had a great day there. But we were overwhelmed newbies--with two ADRs cutting in on our schedule. If I re-did that trip, I would choose one of the less popular parks for Thanksgiving, or make it a day to hang out at the resort and relax with family. I realize that our needs are counter to the reasons most families would CHOOSE MK for the holiday....

MK with manageable crowds is such a better experience!! It was a great day! I rode Space Mountain after Hannah's comment--I did not notice a smell. Maybe stuffiness??

We do not think we can financially swing a yearly trip, but I am tentatively planning options for next summer "just in case..." (in case we get a pin code, in case we find airfare as cheap as we did this year, and a few others "in cases"...) The recent idea in my head include a split stay at POR/BC, hitting DTD/MK/AK while at POR and saving Epcot and DHS for our stay at the BC...Still have not paid off the last trip on the Disney Visa and we are approaching that 6 month mark soon...

I guess I did make it sound like we would be at MK on Thanksgiving Day, but we will not be any where near MK on Thanksgiving Day. We decided upon Epcot b/c we thought it is the biggest of the parks and we can walk around the countries. Plus, we have a day scheduled at Epcot on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and hoping that it won't be so crowded then ( I wanted to fit in another day at Epcot b/c it's my FAV. park, but I was outvoted by the family. . We also have the GAD/GAD vouchers that we are planning on using for Fast passes our last 3 full days there which will be Thanksgiving day and the Fri. and Sat. after. So hoping with those and the regular fast passes that will help us out a bit. Fingers crossed! We will be at MK the Friday and Monday before Thanksgiving and then the Friday after Thanksgiving.
BTW, what was the weather like? We live in south AL, so we are use to being warm, but it does get a bit cooler in Nov (well, sometimes). We have been there at the beginning of November and the weather was awesome. Thanks for your advice.

Epcot is my Fav park as well! The 3 kids also voted for Epcot (to be fair, the littlest will say her fav is where wherever she is that moment, and she will joinn with the crowd!
We used the GAD FPs our last day of this trip. You will be FINE!!!!
We are from MN, so our weather perspective may be a bit biased...but the first few days of our trip were awesome--very warm for us, but in a good way. We were a bit uncomfortable warm at AK, but nothing a tank top and some occassional shade would not fix. Then there was a day of downpour that brought in a cold front. After the rain cleared the weather was AMAZING. Thurs (Thanksgiving) and Friday both started out a bit cool, we all had shorts and an extra layer on top. Both days we needed to remove the layer in the warm afternoon sunshine, but we never got overheated or sweaty. Probably right around 80's for the daytime high. We were leaving friday and planned to swim--it was too cool for us to do that (although my BIL took his kids swimming--heck compared to MN is was HOT!). But it could not have been a better day to explore the grounds of our resort and for the kids to play in the sandbox and play equipment. Perfect weather. Enjoy

Thanks so much Shelly for all of the information. I stress about things way too much. The closer it gets the more I worry about things I have absolutely no control over. So thanks for helping to me at ease.

I think many of us who frequent these boards do so for the reasons you mentioned above! Its what I LOVE about this community!
That cracked me up too. Hannah is adorable.
So glad that Delaney loved her Marie clip. The pictures are so sweet, and I ♥ that Hannah looks as happy as Delaney.
Glad you had a fabulous day at MK!
Couldn't have said this better myself! Sounds like a magical day. I love the pics and I am so glad to be hearing of such a great trip for you and your family. I think it's so neat when someone discovers the magic...especially after a not so good experience. Can't wait to hear more!
We had a great time exploring DTD, dodging a few raindrops and one short-lived downpour. We stopped by Goofy’s and the kids got slushies. We then went to find the legos.
It was Ben’s first time at a Lego store. He had only become interested in Legos within the past few months, but he fancies himself a future engineer and has always enjoyed art and sculpture.
We soon realized that Ben could spend hours in the Lego Store! I asked to hang out with him while DH took the girls to explore some other places. He literally spent almost an hour creating three lego figures. Other kids came and went, but he continued to build, change, decide and hunt for just the right accessories. It was very neat to see how focused he was, and how he came to his decisions, and what pieces sparked a whole new theme for all of the partially finished figures!
He then moved to the sets where he picked out 2 of the small-ish Star Wars sets. He went a bit over his souvenir money…but we could both keep a secret! This was his day!
I was very impressed with the prices at the Lego Store. We had just recently bought one of the identical sets at Target for a friend’s birthday party. I expected price inflation given the locale, and I think we paid about the same, maybe just a dollar or so more. (I did, however, pay attention to the prices of the Star Wars legos in the gift shop following Star Tours and saw HUGE upcharges…moderately priced items were about $5 more after the ride, and the bigger ticket items were almost $10 more!).
This was the only buzz we got to meet at WDW this year…
The girls sure liked this Mickey and Minnie!
Lunch was at Wolfgang Puck’s express. We chose it because we thought it would be a great value for the DDP. I think our “total” was over $70! I would NEVER come here if paying OOP, but we enjoyed it today! DS LOVED the flatbread pizza! They did not do as well with the allergy plate here—the first pasta that came out was dripping in butter. I went up to the counter to explain, and a fresh plate of pasta was out shortly.
That evening was an EMH at AK. We planned to arrive around 4pm and stay until it closed at 9. We were finding it much more tolerable to not be in a park during the heat of the day, and in particular, I was dreading how hot AK would feel.
We were done at DTD by about 2, so we thought we could get on with our plans…I thought we could get a bus straight from DTD to AK. I just assumed it… I never checked… we did not make it to DTD last trip…
When we could not find the park buses…we figured out that we would need to go to a resort. I debated with DH the pros and cons of returning to our resort or catching a bus to AKL…This was the only time in our trip that we had to make a decision that I had not already thought through…It is these moments that become tense for us. Ultimately, we decided to return the resort. I had forgotten to take my antibiotic that morning as I planned and we had bags that would be nice to drop off.
The bus ride from DTD to BC was LONG. Miserable really. (It was, however, another opportunity to nap for the little one.) The bus parked at the other end of DTD for about 15 minutes. The stops at Swan/Dolphin/YC were brutal. It took nearly an hour to get back to our room. Once we were there, we needed a snack…and a potty break…and a…you know how it goes.
~Weather Report-Monday August 16 : Cloudy. Scattered rain. Thunder. Some downpours. High of 90 but much of the day was in the 80’s. Very humid, but very manageable! Probably the best day of the week for us to try to get to AK….But, so late in the day…
Was it even worth trying to make it to AK this day?
Awww...the pictures of Ben looking so happy at the Lego Store were so sweet (although, I'm sure a boy would never want to hear that. Can you tell I'm a mommy of only girls..lol). I loved that he was so into putting the legos together. When I read that and saw how focused he seemed in the picture, the first thing that came to my mind was, "I bet he is a gifted child".
In all of our trips, we have never ventured to DTD. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's time?
Can't wait to read more. Wondering if you did AK b/c we are planning on doing the EMH in the evening one of our nights and wondering how it will be.
