Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Some people don't feel their darling little angels are like others. Sorry that particular mother felt she was "different". Some just don't get it.

Monday 28 May – part six: rough on board!

I could tell that Mark was feeling it and I asked him if he wanted to postpone Palo, but he decided to take a walk and see if he felt better in the fresh air. While h did that, I had a look at our formal photos from last night in Shutters. I ended up buying most of them, they were just so good. They are probably the best photos of the two of us since our wedding nearly eight years ago.

When I finished in there, I waited for Mark and couldn’t see him. I stuck my head out on deck 4 and immediately regretted that, as my hair went everywhere. I just stayed in Shutters and eventually he found me, just as well as I had his Key To The World card to get the photo package updated, so he wouldn’t have got far without me!

He still wasn’t feeling too good, so he went off outside again and I went off to get in line to see Minnie. Just as I got to the front of the line, Mark ran up and joined me for the photo, but his comment was that he shouldn’t have run. Still not feeling good then….

We took the lift up to the ninth deck and walked along, getting blown away again once more. So much for my hair now! We got to Palo, but almost as soon as we walked in, Mark said that there was no way he could eat here. I told him to go back to the room and re-arranged our Palo booking for the night that we’re in Civitivecchia, as I knew weren’t doing any tours that day and at least we knew that we’d be in port when we were eating, so we shouldn’t have a problem then.

I went back to check on Mark, who wasn’t in a good state. He was just lying in bed and didn’t want anything to eat at all. I headed out again, planning to go and join the second sitting at our table, but as I walked down the hallway, I bumped into Sandy, who asked if I wanted to join them in the private dining room in Palo. Well, as I’m dressed up for it, why not? Becky had booked it, so we went to check with her and there was space, so after agreeing to meet them at 8.45, it was off to the lobby to see Mickey. I was the last in line for him and he looked very suave and sophisticated.

While I was in line, the ship was still rocking and I must admit I got knocked into the wall a couple of times. I mentioned how rough it was to the Cast Member keeping an eye on the line and, like most of them, he told me this was nothing and much better than the crossing on the way over to Europe. He told me that wasn’t the worst part of the job. For him, the worst part was having to cut the line and tell kids that they couldn’t see the characters. I mentioned my pet project to him, to try and persuade any Disney Cast Member that I met that Eeyore and his friends Pooh, Tigger and Piglet, should really be on board the cruise. He told me it was a good idea and he’d certainly mention it.

I wandered up to Palo and was fairly early, but fortunately so was Gary, whose wife was also feeling sick. It wasn’t long before everyone else turned up and we were led to the private dining area, which I’ll admit I didn’t even know existed. Also there were Becky, her husband Chris, Deb, Linda, Sandy, Sheila, Gloria, her husband Gary and the other Gary.

Gary and Sheila

Sharon, Becky and Chris

The only shot I managed to get of Deb and Linda – not great, but better than nothing

Gloria and Gary

We were presented with the menu and it all looked good to me, in fact it was very difficult to decide what we wanted to eat. I went for the chef’s special of the day pizza, which came with smoked salmon and capes, along with calamari, as I remembered that being very good from last time and the sea bass, which was another of the specials for that night.

It was great to sit there and chat with everyone and we covered a lot of topics as the night wore on. Unfortunately, as the night wore on, I also started to become more conscious of the swaying motion of the ship. Let’s just say that it wasn’t getting any better, while there were times that it didn’t feel too bad, there were other times that I felt as if we were rolling from side to side.

I took one bite of the pizza when it arrived and realised that I couldn’t eat any of it, otherwise there was every chance I would be sick. After that, I stuck to bread and water and didn’t do too badly, although I did still fill unwell. I asked them if they’d started cooking my main course yet and they hadn’t, so I quickly cancelled that order, as I didn’t want them to waste any more food on me when I couldn’t eat it.

Just as main course arrived, I realised that it was 10.30 and decided to call it a night before I felt any worse and because it was also pretty late. Sandy hadn’t been looking good for a while and left with me. Let’s just say that I was very glad I left when I did, as my goodness, it got a lot rougher after I went to bed. I really struggled to sleep, as we were crashing around so much. It was certainly a very rough night on board.

The weather today was warm in the morning in Palermo, but very windy and rough after we left.
Today we walked 4.10 miles
The best thing today was seeing the market in Palermo.
The worst thing today was how rough it got in the night and how sick we both felt.
The funniest thing today was the tour guide trying to grab us and put us into her group at the cathedral.
Today we tried exploring Palermo on our own
And the result was I think it was probably the best way to see the city.
The most magical moment today was seeing Mickey and Minnie.

Next: misery out on the water

Just a note - when I do the next installment tomorrow, I'll start a new thread, as this one is getting a bit on the long side!

Sorry you both felt rough that night. The food looked really nice, though.

How nice of Sandy to ask you to join the group.

I had never even thought of choppy seas in the Mediterranean---they certainly can put a damper on what should be a fabulous trip. Hope to find that they get better soon! Being seasick is the worst!

Cheryl -

Don't mean to be picky but "Sheila" where did that come from? I don't think I know a Sheila let alone ever been called Sheila - lol.

Did I tell you that Sharon showed up in the cabin about 15 minutes after I did. The rocking got to her too.

Reading your report bring back memories (and sequence). Thanks.

Sandy

Goodness me - I cannot believe I did that. Sorry about that - I obviously wasn't 100% with it when I wrote that section up! Please accept my apologies - I feel really silly now! D'oh! :headsmack:
