As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Shelly - this may be off-topic...and maybe you have a more detailed post on this elsewhere...but I have a couple questions.
I've tried surveying before but really never got as far with it as it's sometimes made out to be. I did win an iPod Shuffle and $25.00 and probably earned another $50 in a year's time. I think most of the surverys/product reveiws I did were a 'sweepstakes' type (i.e. If you complete the survey, you have a chance to win X amount of dollars.)
The biggest problems were that so many of them were long and tedious for the amount paid. And the other was there were so many I didn't qualify for...it just seemed a waste of time.
What are your secrets? (Feel free to point me to another post if you've already explained all this. )
My secrets...I am a fast typer and fast processor. Almost all surveys start with the basic demographic info. Usually you get to move on to the survey or get kicked out after the basics. The questions can differ but after you do about 20 or so, you can just look at the answers and know what question they are asking. That saves some time. It also seemed like better and better opportunities came after I was with a company for a while. I often have two different windows open with two different companies surveys. I like this because sometimes it take a bit for the computer to load the next page and I can do a quick question on another survey. I have also been kicked out of surveys because I go too fast and working on two at a time slows it down a bit.
As far as the scams...Know the companies you trust and what their emails look like. If in doubt link to surveys from the sites. The one site that it took a while for me to figure out was was ligit was SurveyScout. Although I am a fan of this site and have made over $100 total (and you know how much $ you will earn before a survey starts) but they also have marketing "partners" that send email solicitations under their headings. Once you know what the "real" ones look like it is easy to delete the solicitations.

Just finished reading all of Sparky's PTR! Thank you Shelly and Sparky for your insights. I think I have a better understanding of how to do all of this after reading both of your PTR's! I'm excited to jump on (tomorrow...I'm tired after all the reading. LOL) and see if I can find some survey sites that will work out for me! I'm glad that I'm caught up on both of your PTR's!

First off... I live in a small town with the best outlet mall in the state. Every year as part of the city festival they promote a city-wide garage sale. There are sales everywhere. I always hear stories about how far people drive for this sale. At least 3 groups of people that hit the sale got a hotel in town the night before so they could be fresh and ready.
We do not pay to advertise with the city materials because I live on a corner and folks have to drive past our house to check out about 300 more sales.
I did my first sale the year my son was one. He is now 10 and they get better every year. When friends learned years ago how much more $ we made at our sale than they did at theirs...we started joining forces. We generally gave 4-6 families participating. But they need to follow my "rules."
Anyway...my husband has been a "picker" of free stuff on the side of the road. When he made about $150 last year, he stepped up his efforts this year.
Our sale grossed close to $2500.
We had the winning total this year with.....
$1200...
That included about $750 from selling the things my husband found on the side of the road!
$1200 was the price of the YES tickets...(which I paid for with my Disney Visa and have not yet paid it off...we also have the 2 resort deposits hanging out on that card...)..I will be paying off the Visa and will be able to say the park tickets are PIF!.
Woohoo!
I expect to get back to my PTR in a few days...out house is a mess! LOL
WOW....way to go!!! Tickets paid in full, can't go wrong with that. They have grage sales around here as well, but nothing like the money you made. Congratulations!!!
